When my wife and I got married, we wanted to have four children. After having three, two years apart, we changed our minds.
Now, if you ask the question re: world population, I think that every couple should only have two, so the population growth does not continue.
We can not continue to double our population every 50 years without extreme consequences.

I agree with Teejay on this one. We all have to make judgements and put labels on persons, places and things, every day of our lives. If we didn't, we would not survive.
Sometimes we are wrong, but if we are right more often than we are wrong, it does contribute to our survival, as an individual and as a species. -

The WTS, Downsizing and Contributions.
by hillary_step inas most of you may have gathered, the past couple of years have seen some major downsizing in wts expenditure, not just overseas but in the us and canada, including the sale of some buildings.
building projects have been shelved, some half-way completed.
every congregation around the world was instructed to upgrade kindgom halls, probably for the purposes of asset protection, as the trustees of khs are only trustees *for* the wts.

I do not have the facts at Hillary's disposal, but I think his analysis is accurate. First of all, the WT budget is based on growth, and their growth is minimal, especially in the affluent countries. Second, I have an intuative sense that contributions are down, based on what many have posted here. Third, the law suits, re: pedophelia and the blood issue are draining them.
They are in a world of hurt, in my opinion. -

Our house fire
by larc infolks, .
i do not usually post stuff about my life at home, but i am in the mood to tell you this one.
yesterday, a big truck came by our house, which created a vibration in our house, which caused a plastic spice jar to fall off of the top of the stove on to a hot burner, which caused the plastic to get set on fire, which melted and destroyed the plastic panel on the stove.

I want to thank you all for responding. Our situation, while a near miss, was not as important as a direct hit. Well, we got our new stove today. Jan, left it up to me to pick it out without her attendence at this major event. They had white stoves and black stoves. I went for the multi-cultural stove that was half white and half black. Actually, it was half almond and half black. Jan likes it, and it matched the other colors in our kitchen.

I hope you have a long life together with your spouse. However, with all your good words, nothing you say makes what your doing a legal marriage.
My question to you is: why don't you get married? -

Things my Dad taught me
by DanTheMan inthings my dad taught me.
children don't need encouragement or coaching - unspoken expectations and incredulousness and anger when they are not met are the way to go.. newspapers, national geographic magazines, and fraternal organizations are much more interesting and more worthy of a time investment than children are.. children are noisy nuisances.
keep reminding them of this by yelling whenever they make too much noise, accidentally get in your way, or otherwise annoy you or complicate your life.

Dan,
Of all the threads I have read and all the posts I have made, this one stirred up the emotion in me. Thank you for addressing a very difficult subject.
Now, regarding your genetics and children, I would not be that concerned. My wife's mother was a very abusive woman. My wife, on the other hand, turned out to be a very loving and caring mother and a loving person all around.
The circle can be broken. I know you, and you are a kind person, like my wife. -

Jeff,
I am really sorry to hear about what happended to your son. Sometimes, life is like playing Russian Roulet, you just don't know when your number is up, or if you just missed the bullet. -

Gumby,
My wife just read about the incident and told me that she did use a fire extinguisher.
The amount of smoke was minimal. I was not at home at the time, and when I returned, I could not smell any smoke.
Well, with that said, you never know when a minor situation could turn into a disaster. -

Folks,
I do not usually post stuff about my life at home, but I am in the mood to tell you this one.
Yesterday, a big truck came by our house, which created a vibration in our house, which caused a plastic spice jar to fall off of the top of the stove on to a hot burner, which caused the plastic to get set on fire, which melted and destroyed the plastic panel on the stove. Fortunately, my wife found the problem before our house was burned to the ground.
So, today we bought a new stove. Ours was old any way, and only two of the burners worked.
Nothing serious happended, but it was a close call. -

Be real cold and uncaring. Don't show your children any affection. When my sister was a young teen, she leaned over and kissed my father on the cheek. He said, "don't ever do that again." Now that is cold.
I will say that after we grew up, it was nice to talk to him. However, during our childhood, he was a real shit.
