I don't think the woman was an extremist. I think she is a true believer in her religion. I have read the Black Muslim literature and I have listened to Faracon (sp?) on TV. They are a hate filled cult, and a danger to the rest of society.

Do they store this stuff on a computer and print it out from time to time? This verbiage is no different than what they wrote 50 years ago.

Voting Bush out
by Jayson inwhat is the best campaign stratagy to win against him?
be serious this is to win the minds of american voters not to polerize them against you.
otherwise it's a plug for him.. i think that the one real weakness is unemployment in america.

Jayson,
I do not want to into a flame war either. I just want to discuss information. First off, the economy is very complicated, and I am not an Economist, so I am not an expert on the subject. It just seems to me that the President, whether Democrat or Republican has nothing to do with health of the economy.
As far as Clinton's 100K jobs program, I don't know anything about it, so I can't comment and you will have to enlighten me about this program.
I will say that successful jobs programs are started by business, not the Federal Government. Business creates real jobs, as needed, not make work jobs created by the government, jobs that contribute nothing to the economy. -

Jayson,
I don't think the president has anyting whatsoever to do with unemployment. The world of business, supply and demand, technological innovation, and the natural cycle of the economy are the variables that effect the economy, not the president. The only person that effects the economy is Alan Greenspan.
So, Jayson, if you disagree with me, please tell me what Clinton did to lower unemployment and what Bush did to increase unemployment. I bet you can't do it. If you can, I would be glad to learn from you. -

Geez oh Pete,
Can you all just leave it alone??? This is just another version of, "my country is better than yours." Gawd allmighty, we both have pretty good countries, don't ya think?
I know where I live, I have not heard a gun shot, ever. -

Disfellowshipping
by larc ini have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.

Waiting,
I am in the mood to chat a bit more. The last funeral I went to was Jan's younger sister. She was in a comma for awhile and we went there when her husband had to decide whether or not to pull the plug and let her go. It was a very tough time for him and his children.
Jan's sister was not a JW, and the service was conducted by a very nice Baptist minister. At any rate, it was a good time to see family and celebrate life in the midst of death. There were many Witnesses at the viewing, but none except family at the funeral.
I really don't know what else to say, except that it was a very bitter-sweet experience. -

Waiting,
I read your thread with some confusion. First of all, I have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about the marriage thread. Of course, you have to realize that I have short term memory problems- always have and always will.
Now, your second point: I was never disfellowshipped. My mother was because she could not quit smoking.
Your last point just mystifys me. I have empathy, but no fellow feeling. Where in the fork did that inference come from? I lived it as a child and a young adult. Just because I can talk about it objectively, does not mean I did not feel it. I feel it every time I talk to my JW sister on the phone, or my wife talks to her JW sister,or when I travel 4 hours to go to a JW funeral and talk to people that are no longer part of my life, but they do treat me kindly. -

Well, this has been a very interesting, but a disturbing thread. We have Stinky Pantz starting out with crime statistics. Later, others come on showing other statistics. Frankly, I don't give a flying fork about any of this. Hey, where I live I am relatively safe, as our most people in either country, so move on folks.
As for those from the UK that think we have a "cowboy mentality" that is a crock. Very few of us own guns, and if we do, we don't shoot people randomly. I have never owned a gun, even though I am a very good shot, and was taught how to shoot at the age of seven by my WWII war veteran, marksman father. I learned at seven and at the age of 16, after never firing a gun since came in third in a rifle competitiion. I have never shot a gun since then.
I am really sick and tired of this steroptype about us, which makes all of us look like John Wayne cowboys packen a six gun. Get real, our day to day life is not that much different than yours. -

Suing Tobacco companies
by StinkyPantz inwhat do you think about all of the lawsuits recently against tobacco companies?.
i see 3 sides to the issue:.
1. people should know better; it's clearly printed on the box how dangerous cigarettes are so they shouldn't sue.. 2. it hasn't always been known how bad they were.

Regarding cigarettes and there dangers. We knew long before the Surgean's Gereral warning all about ciggies. Back in the 50's, they were called "coffin nails" by the general public. We were not stupid back then and people smoked at their own risk, and they knew it.
These law suits make me sick. People know full well what they are doing, whether it is smoking or eating a fat burger. Come on folks, take some responsibility for your own life. If you spill a hot cup of coffee on your lap, it is not McDonald's fault. It is your fault, and for a woman to win a law suit against McDonald's hot coffee, just blows me away. -

Gumby,
I know you are right, as I think about it. I have been through own pain.
I do think it is a good thing to talk about.
