  have you ever heard that statement?

  i have heard it many times and i just don't know what to do with it.

  they are chosing a to live a lie because they like the lifestyle.

  I used to work at a call center ( one of my first jobs), were we worked long thankless days, taking verbal abuse from customers who called in, getting paid very little. I hated it. But the manager of the department kept telling us how good we had it, and other jobs are MUCH harder. Those words kept me at that company, until they dissbanded the entire department and then we were all out of jobs.

  Now I look back and think that was the WORST job I ever had!

  JW's are TOLD this is the best way of life - That everyone out in the world is miserable. They believe it. I might keep them in regardless of how unhappy or how many doubts they have. Its the fear of the unknown, or even the possibility of something "worse".

  HELP needed for a friend, please. Anyone?..

  a friend of mine (who has recently started reading jwn) is having trouble eating and sleeping because, even after having recently woken up to ttatt.. they are still concerned about 'demons, everlasting destruction, and jehovahs disapproval'.. i've tried to encourage them.

  i'm sure you all understand that these things can take time, the transition period is often painful, to some extent.

  i'm still struggling with anger and depression myself.. i'll be away from jwn, off the internet, and thus out of contact with them for a while (don't ask why)... so please don't expect me to reply to or even look at what you post, .

  The entire story of Noah's Ark did it for me.

  I believed, blindly, for my entire young life. I had long seperated myself from the JW's, for other reasons, but still feared Armageddon and demons. Then I met my husband, who was just amazed that I actually had believed in the story. I had not given the story much thought, and just blindly believed cause I was told it was so. I did the research, and was embarassed at my gullibility. I became eager to learn more about what the Truth really is.

  Its tough in the beginning to get over the fear, cause the Witnesses will tell you they are the only ones with the truth. I did a lot of reading and talking with outside people and realised my view prior was very narrow.

  i wad thinking how certain quotes and sayings have such a positive effect on our life.

  so i thought a quotes and sayings thread could be very inspirational.it would be nice if the saying or quote isn't origional to quote the author..   Do you know your neighbors? Is it just me?

  i'm a single hispanic guy in my mid 30s living by myself in suburban america.

  i own a home in the kind of neighborhood where you have to get hoa permission to do just about anything, including chopping down a tree.

  i'm a white collar worker and lead a pretty boring life.

  We live in a new neighborhood with a lot of young families and everyone is very outgoing and approachable. Halloween in our neighborhood is a circus! Christmas is a decorating competition (friendly-like). I attribute this to all the young couples and people with kids in the area. Everyone is new to the block, so everyone is starting out in the same "boat".

  That being said I have lived in an older neighborhood, where the residents were much older, the kids grown and gone - and yes, no one talked to us either. There were people that had lived there 50-60 years and had estabilished relationships with other neighbors. We were just the newbies.

  Ministy School - Endless, without graduation - How could we?

  yesturday, i was talking to a friend and she said that in order to get a degree from a local college, they require a completed a public speaking course.

  i said that was no problem, because i had been in a public speaking school for 40 years.

  she looked at me like i had three heads.

  I un enrolled from the Ministry school after particularly strong and condesending counsel was given to me from the platform. I was amazed to learn that you did NOT have to give talks at all !!

  My first taste of freedom.

  Being an elders daughter, I had been giving talks starting at a very young age. I NEVER got used it it and only confirmed my fear of public speaking.

  Have you ever been called for Jury Duty? before or after registering to vote?

  i've never been called for jury duty and i'm not yet registered to vote, although i'm hoping to get that done this month.

  i know someone who within a few months of registering to vote was called for jury duty.

  i've read some articles that said voter records 'used' to be used to call on people but that was a thing of the past.

  I was never called until I registered to vote. Now I get called every year. They are usually DV cases and I always get excused based on my experience with an abusive ex (JW) husband.

  Which BTW is so humiluating to explain to a packed courtroom of 80 people with a mic in your hand. Hate it :(

  using kindle/ tablet/ iPad in meetings how to police?

  i've noticed about half my half are using these.

  of course there's always the potential for people to be looking at things non jw on them.

  are the society going to find a way to police this?

  Sorry this is a little off topic- my mom, who has never operated a computer, email, or smartphone in her life, mentioned the other day that she wanted a tablet. She mentioned this right after a convention. She wanted to follow the programs on it. I think this must be trending at the halls.

  I would love to see if she got distracted on it :)

  Have you reconnected with ex-JW's after you have left the Borg?

  after reading from another thread, i felt it was worth asking this question.. if you left the borg on your own, have you attempted to meet others whom you used to be connected with while you were "in", but who have also become ex-jw's before or after you have left the wts?

  if that's the case, has it remained a friendship, or the connection grew cold?

  just curious as to what keeps friendships "stick" [or not] once you no longer have the borg's doctrinal glue.. your experiences are welcome.. eden.

  I have kept in touch with a friend I was very close to. When she travels to my area she contacts me to have drinks or dinner. She knows I am out completely, and I think she is only in cause she has no big reason to leave. I dont think she takes the religion seriously.

  We dont talk about the religion when we get together. We were/are genuine friends. We talk about family, jobs, and life.

  Weird crazy rules imposed by your local Elders.

  we all know the sort of thing..... in many congregations, specific "rules" creep in...introduced by the local elders that become set in stone.. years ago, i heard of a congregation that sat down during the first song of the evening but stood for all others (the co changed that very soon after).

  then there were the older accounts of congs that had rules to make the public speakers wear only white shirts.... in one cong now, i heard that brothers can only be used for sound or microphones if they do a minimum of 5 hours per month in the ministry!.

  another cong has ruled that all appointed men must pioneer for at least one month each year in order to remain qualified.. .

  As a teenager I recall the rule: no nail polish that is not pink or red. Clearly the God hates the other colors he created, because red and pink are much more natural colors for your nails !

  i had a flash back yesterday.

  my non jw husband and i went to disneyland and bought my young daughter a set of 7 dwarf toys.

  after a few months i felt guilty and threw them away, thinking they were demonized.

  I remember having a bad dream one night, at about the age of 14. When I woke up, I reasoned that I had this bad dream, cause demons were in my room, and I must have something in my room that let them in. I found a fashion magazine that I bought at the grocery store and ripped out the horoscope section and threw the page away. Then I slept better after that. I was SO afraid of demons.

  I had a friend that broke up all her Led Zepplin tapes cause she heard a rumor that if they were played backwards, it said something satantic. I still recall her crying over the trash can- she was scared of demons to.
