Are those out of the org. in better mental health than those in?

i was wondering if those in the jw organization would be in better or worse mental health than those who quit the organization?

Yeah right! I know that I def. drink less now than when I was attending. I used to look for forward to having an almost neat dark rum as soon as I got home from the Thursday meeting. Meetings are so very stressful with young children. Our Pioneer friends would always join us in a drink after the meetings…..we all felt relief that the meeting was over I guess!! LOL

At least two studies showed such prayer had no effect.

Prayer can have an effect!!

I was playing a tense game of Monopoly with my kids and tried praying (won’t say who to) I didn’t get the roll dice I needed. I got desperate and tried praying to the boiled egg in the kitchen………I got the double I needed to get out of jail!!!! I tried praying again to the boiled egg in the kitchen. YES!!!! I got another double!!!! My kids were laughing their heads off.

i'm in a bit of a state at the moment, my wife has just left me about 30 mins ago and took the kids...i don't know where.... ok, some of you long-timers may remember the problems i had with my son ben, who decided that the jw religion wasn't for him about a year ago.

i supported him as best i could through that and he's developed into a fine young man with a more healthy spiritual attitude, investigationg a number of christian churches in the area and finally settled on church of england, which he really likes now.. although no longer a christian myself i have no objection to them pursuing whatever religious path they choose (obviously within reason).

that has been the case with all of my children: ben, 15, charlotte, 14 and chloe, 12. i have never attempted to stop my wife taking them to the meetings although i have voiced to them privately my concerns about the religion.

I wish so much that I could reason with these JW wives who are ‘hell bent’ on not listening to anything contrary! I really feel for you.

The asylum game Asylum: A Panorama special Tha asylum game will be broadcast on BBC One on Wednesday, 23 July, 2003 at 21:00 BST.

For six months a Panorama reporter has been on a journey through Britain's asylum system.

Her task was to find out why so many people seek asylum in the UK and why the system cannot cope.

In January Panorama's reporter turned up at a Channel port police station, seeking asylum. Posing as Mihaela Cornea, a Moldovan national fleeing a violent boyfriend, she told her story.

It was flawed and the authorities appeared not to believe it but they gave her papers to stay for six months and she was released. Within hours they had lost track of her.

Once free, Mihaela faced a dilemma encountered by many asylum seekers: her asylum application would take months to process but she was not allowed to work. Refused benefits and accommodation, she had little alternative but to enter the world of illegal employment.

Chaos

Within days she obtained the false documents she needed to work and hooked up with criminal gangs - themselves asylum seekers - who ply a lucrative trade in forging documents for others.

Mihaela discovers this is not a fluke encounter. She meets crooks who are able to make a fortune out of a system groaning under pressure and wide open to abuse. The genuine asylum seekers she meets are also victims of the system, kept in limbo for months waiting for their cases to be adjudicated.

Britain's asylum system is based on the principle of providing a safe haven to victims of persecution but it is in chaos because it cannot speedily distinguish between the refugee and the economic migrant.

When her six month permission to stay runs out, Mihaela puts the asylum system to one final test. Earlier this year, Home Secretary David Blunkett introduced fingerprinting of all asylum seekers to root out fraud and multiple applications.

Our reporter was fingerprinted at the time of her first application. Now, her first asylum request turned down, she adopts a different name, and makes another application. Panorama will reveal if Mr Blunkett's new detection system is up to the job.

The JW Martyr Complex?

like my mother before me, im a martyr.

i am almost unable to make a choice based on what is best for me.

and of course this has over time made me a depressed, bitter person who, much to my horror, explodes with rage from time to time.

I know just what you mean…I saw it more in others than did it myself. Like the sister who managed to ‘only get’ a reproof for becoming pregnant out of wedlock, and as she was so grateful for Jah’s mercy,(lol) she endeavoured to get to EVERY meeting, ministry etc. whilst doing a fulltime job, although many times she was utterly exhausted, you could see that she needed more than anything ….to get some REST. Her subsequent children had to tow the line in all this martyrdom, it goes on to this day.

Like the sister who had only very recently undergone quite major surgery, just has to attend ALL of the assembly programme, through which she informed me- slept through most of it…..all that mattered was that she was THERE.

Thank you all so much for your comments on this thread. I’m sorry that I’ve not posted too much - my migraine came back with a vengeance.

The two Mormon guy’s failed to show up on Friday (I was ill anyhow) I have to say that I was kinda glad J I thought that I’d got of scott free, then my hubby informs me that they called on Saturday to see when they could call again (gasp!!) I was still poorly so they said they would call again - they just called this evening, and they arranged to call on me next week when I have more time.

I don’t know whether or not I can take on these guy’s (if you know what I mean…lol) To make any headway, one has to have their facts right, and it seems that some time is required for me to do that.

I guess I have strong apostate feelings….to reveal untruth.

WOW! Thanks you so much for all the info….I will definitely look it all up. I have just recovered from a Migraine so have just got out of bed - looks like I will have to put them off for tomorrow! At least it will give me more time to be prepared.

I have to admit that I am a little tempted to attend one of their meetings…. just to imagine how any ‘interested person’ might have felt walking into a K.Hall full of cult members LOL

One thing which I wanted to check out was their strange comment that they had a prophet there in UTAH….A PROPHET!!! I always view anyone’s claim of their being a prophet as utter CRAP. Just a control/fear tactic…. to come up with a PROPHET….Rubbish! Now that alarmed me, made me think that these young men are having the strings of their lives pulled by some money grabbing dude in UTAH…..Just like being a dub.

Having said that….they only have to do their ministry for TWO years….now THAT IS GOOD!!

Just thought I’d share with you. Any tips on dealing with them would be greatly appreciated…..thanks!

Yesterday, I had two lovely young men at my door - they were Mormons. It was a very hot day, so I invited them in as the conversation progressed. Cool drinks were the order of the day!

What struck me about them, was the many similarities to the Pioneer friends I’d known in the ‘troof’

They were incredibly polite, and their message was very well put over, they came across as quite genuine, which was very refreshing. They were aged about 20 ish.

Due to my JW history I thought that I would indulge them a little…………anyhow they prayed over/for/ them/me (lol) at the beginning of our discussion , and also at the end of the discussion . (prayer was definitely for me this time!! Lol)

They kindly left the book of Mormon with me…no study books like the dubs would of done just their equivalent to Gods Word, simple. They told me about their meeting’s of which there is only ONE a week, and for 2/3 of the meeting the children are kept busy doing kiddies activities which I thought was good too!! Far better than the dubs on that one!

They made an arrangement to call back after emphasising the need to pray whilst reading their book of Mormon. I had told them previously that I prefer to keep the airways free for those that really need it (like the abused children etc) Anyhow, I will now have to look up what the INTERNET has to say about Mormons and get the full picture eh??

Their final goodbye helped me decided that no….I don’t think that being a Mormon is for me, they pointed out that their names are ELDER…….so’n’so Urrgh!!!!

They were nice young men, and on a day where I felt quite low, they were pleasant, which was nice. I particularly warmed to them when they told me that they DO NOT cut off ties with former members. One told me of a relative who had left the faith, and he couldn’t wait to see him again to continue their friendship. Now that is nice! I will have to really check that one out!

No, I am not ready to convert, just ready to try and make sure that these guys are fully informed. They have arranged to come back this Friday…..pray for me you guys!! lol

Lying Experiences at Assemblies.

at assemblies shining examples are trundled out to reel off their "encouraging" stories.

over the years there were many examples where i knew the people concerned, and wanted to vomit because they were telling a load of lies or at best half truth.

Yes, I know what you mean!

I remember a sister being interviewed stating what a wonderful spiritual schedule her family followed, everything during the day seemed to be centered on study, ministry,study, ministry.....etc..etc.

The one thing which she didn't highlight was that she had in fact chosen to home educate her children, and therefore had plenty of opportunity to fulfill her ultra spiritual daily schedule.

I really though that her gushing 'aren't I good ' speech was most discouraging for all the other families who found even a weekly family study hard to fit it. I really thought it put a lot of pressure on families. Yes, it was certainly NOT the full picture!
