  Irlam KH magazine article Df'ing

  an article about a sister in our local local kh was in a womens magazine today.

  the local kh was the topic of conversation at angharad & dylan's playgroup with the verdict that the jws are "disgusting how they treat people".

  apparently, they were also quite vocal about how the articles about the wtc were trying to cash in on the suffering and they were not impressed (a wise & discerning group those mums!)..

  dumbing down made us witnesses

  i've almost forgotten why i thought jw's were the truth.. there i was thinking about it as i drove in my car yesterday trying to remember why.but i couldn't.. prehaps its because there was not one reason but a hole host of things that seamed to fit at the time.. i cannot remember a point when i started to doubt, but i did read a lot of scientific books which helped tune my brain a little bit.. i also noted that the maganzines (w&a) were very small a had very little content i found this very strange as i noted that science writers went to great pains to prove a point where as the societiy seemed happy with a few lines and a quick conclusion.but the society expected people lives to depend on its information.. but i wanted to know why i believed to avoid making the same mistake twice.. so after consideration i've come to the conclusion i was under the influence of misinformation by the society and had asumed these people knew what they were talking about and were unbaised and always checked their facts.. now i know better and will make a goal to always research myself to a higer than "normal " level before i except unusual things as true.. so i belive i was a witness due to misinformation , but this problem effect us all in many ways, how do we know we are being well informed when we read something?.

  well there is a majour problem in the fact that a lot of people find reading boring , we enjoy being entertianed and to learn can be hard.

  i have had to force myself to read things i didn't enjoy in order to understand something important.i am glad after that i have done it ,but i didnt enjoy it.. yes people read little and prefear it when everthing is given to them on a plate.. i belive that lack of education and a lack of a critical mind coupled with the dumbing down of society in general will lead people into religious traps and pseudoscientific errors.. we must encourage education and the desire to learn in our children.. the dumbing down i see in society worries me.

  Yes, I think it does matter class/country. That's why there is a fair amount of 'growth' in the 3rd world countries.

  back in the dark ages did you used to come into message boards like this one, or h20 and try to defend the watchtower society?

  i did and things didn't work out so well.

  actually they worked out fine, i switched teams.

  Yes, I quite agree with you, as I have also come to similar conclusions. It has always been clear to me through out my life as a JW, that any further education is ‘not a good idea, in fact quite a silly idea….unnecessary’ I can see clearly now that it is a way of controlling the people in the org. If they have limited education, then the magazines will look to be ideal educational material, if not to some the only education one needs!

  Attending WT meetings/functions

  i've been inactive for over 4 years now but i'm still attached though - loosely.. i will occassionally attend a meeting or portion of an assembly or convention.. i get a mixed reception at these gatherings.

  generally my experience has.

  been that the larger the group, the more inclined i am to run into some who.

  I have not had time to read all of the posts on this thread. However, I do feel that if you have long standing friends in the trooth, then you cannot but wish they were OUT.

  I simply think that life is just too short to live it in a lie, or false dream.

  I have no alternative to the JW’s lifestyle (for those that actually like it) Just sweet reality. Sweet normality. Halfing the stress in ones life. Seeing good in others, instead of two horns coming out of their heads. Etc. etc.etc……..

  Theres a whole lot of livin’n to do! I get frustrated that these people are getting older and older………..

  They shun you--Do you love them?

  for all who have, are, or will be shunned (which should pretty much be all of us), do you still have a deep love for those who now shun you...now, not familial love, but an active love that yearns for that person's companionship?.

  i have several regrets; one of them is the friends that i've lost.

  I am at the beginning of that '15 years' I would like to avoid it happening.....life is really too short.

  and it was like 15 years of enforced separation had never happened.

  I have to say that I def. go from anger, to feeling very sorry for those that are 'in', but just what can you do? My anger prompted me to draught a letter to my friend of 20yrs+ to tell her that I can no longer continue our friendship as I feel that whilst there can be no freeness of speech.........then how can we be friends in the true sense??? Distrust abounds in such a friendship. I don't want such a 'friendship'. (I didn't send it)

  I know that I have to be PATIENT.

  I have not yet experienced shunning to the degree which it seems some have on this board, I feel for you guy's.......it's not right...to say the least!

  Car Group Visited Today

  just when i thought i was almost over being angry my "brothers" got my blood going again.

  my wife and i were polite, saying at first it was good to see them after so long and the first thing the elder in the group said was..."well you know where to find us, at the kingdom hall.

  " well normally i'm fairly mild mannered, but, that just got under my skin.

  Just think, that a least you are not wasting your time anymore! It is annoying though when they patronise you like saying “we really miss you at the KH “ Which really means “You can always come back you know” Yeah right!

  Bye the way, are you in the UK? Just wondering as it’s typical British JW style to drive around in a car group in the cold weather.

  when a jw tells you christmas is pagan, therefore you shouldnt celebrate it, you can refer them to this article.

  it is discussing wallpaper and other home decorations and what sorts are acceptable.. *** g76 12/22 14 are they idolatrous decorations?

  so the christian needs to be primarily concerned about what?

  as such he has implanted in us the faculty of choice.

  he does not force us to act or think in a certain way, nor does he employ his sevants to do so ( 2 cor 3:17).
