letter to the elders about wanting to fade

i wrote a letter to the elders of my congregation about my family wanting to fade and voicing my disgust at the way they handled matters with my self and family whilst i was in their congregation as we were treated with contempt and so were my children just because we were different.

i personaly sacrificed my entire life for these brothers giving and giving and giving my self materially and physically, and every other way possible together with my family to the point of loosing all my posessions including my family and most recently my mother who contracted parkinsons.

as you all know we looked after her for many years together with my wife and kids without the help of the congregation nor my siblings.

Let's be very clear on this. We have by no means disregarded or rejected your letter, on the contrary we have given you the opportunity to meet and discuss these matters with us. You have made it very clear you do not want to meet. The opportunity to and invitation to meet is still open if you change your mind. This will be the last email I will be sending you and I will not be accepting any further correspondence please address it in writing to either the watchtower bible & tract society or directly to the congregation

Now look at this. You want to handle this on your own terms, that ABSOLUTELY will not happen. The consider themselves still very much in control. They have laid down the rules for you, and they won't play by any other. Can you come to understand that you won't win this one? Do you really need to care? Your anger is justified, but you won't find resolution with this bunch. Comfort yourself with the knowledge that you actually get to have a life now, and they do not. You are walking away from prison, and the inmates still try to tell you what to do. Embrace your freedom. See a therapist or take yoga or learn to box to deal with the anger. Cuz you aren't going to get closure with these people.

I'm glad you've seen the truth in this mess. I hope your days to come are much happier. I'm sorry for all of your losses and frustration. Still, I know the future will be much sweeter now.

Why do I no longer get attacked and persecuted by the demons, since I left JW,s ?

most jw.s really believe that they ( as we once did ) are promoting gods will, but what if they really are ?

is it possible that god is supporting them even though they (governing body ) lie, because most jw,s are ignorant of the lies told on their behalf, ?.

when i was a jw i got attacked by the demons bigtime, but not now, and i can only assume that they (demons ) are happy that i am no longer a jw and are now leaving me alone, cant think of any other reason, has god ever supported a group who were similarly found wanting ?.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure cases of demon possession had other explanations. I'm pretty much an atheist. I was just pointing that for someone who thinks they know their bible, they should support their demon beliefs FROM the bible. I mean, look at all that knowledge about demons! Where does it come from? The bible never really speaks of demons in the manner that 2057 does, so who is feeding her such "knowledge"? Plus most of those cases were described as outright possession. I think the concern here was being "bothered". That's not really covered.

I just think if you claim to believe the bible, and advise someone to run back to the borg, the least we could expect was some scriptural support. It's not my authority but it should be hers.

This is me because I like the community and humanist nature of the group. And there is no pressure, so I'm comfortable. Religious people really don't need to worry about how atheists view their religion. I suspect some of us think all religions are crazy and some of us can actually attend a UU without feeling conflict. My pre-existing idea and core foundation is to be the best human I can and I like having a group of like minded individuals to do it with. Nothing irrational about that.

Seems like we are more a mystery to them than they to us.

in response, she questioned the existence of objective rationality.

she said that we should "agree to disagree.

Good reminder Quandry. It's true, most of us here have been in that position. When I was there, I never had ANY doubt that I was right, my mind wasn't open to any idea introduced by Satan's world, my only goal in any discussion was to convince the other person---with NO THOUGHT that they could make a valid point if it disagreed with the society. It had nothing to do with the person personally---I simply had all the answers. And yet, like you, here I am!

Wobble, thanks for that! I never heard this explained before and was not able to articulate it:

This idea is really going to help me express myself in the future. I was aware of it, but never pulled it out alone to examine it.

jworld, I'm not sure. I can guess. It seems with extremism the world is just ONE way and it's the way it should be. Any fresh or dissenting ideas threaten the cognitive dissonance. So they keep in this bubble and simply reinforce their ideas over and over. They become a group with a special, widely unknown truth. Much like WT as you said.

For instance, with the nuclear issue above, it sounds like all safeguards worked well. It sounds like those watching it are being vigilant and noting any possible problems. Calling it a crisis is a bit extreme---nothing actually happened.

#1 The crisis at the Fort Calhoun nuclear facility in Nebraska has received almost no attention in the national mainstream media

But then just a few paragraphs down:

Right now the facility is operating normally and officials don't expect a crisis

And yet, we must stir up the alarm again with a subjective statement.

But considering what has been going on at Fukushima, it would be nice if we could have gotten a lot more coverage of these events by the mainstream media

Okay, now I do acknowledge that we have a problem with our nuclear plants, and the potential is there for future tragedies. Actually, I know that from the mainstream media. They've covered in great detail the risks involved and the concerns. But this was NOT Fukushima, it was a small fire that was contained. Fukushima involved multiple reactors and an earthquake. A small contained fire just isn't all that newsworthy---nothing happened. They responded appropriately and continue to stay on alert. But if I want to stir up fear, I can continue to concentrate on Fukushima, draw parallels, get people upset----but the real problems still aren't being addressed. If you want to know what those real problems are, mainstream media covered them in some depth a few weeks ago.

I get filled in on Japan a lot from a friend that just returned from S. Korea--so I didn't notice a lack in coverage simply because I got so many details on my own. I like to listen to BBC too. It's nice to get perspective on the world from outside the US.
