in the watchtower ?
july 15, 2011 15 this is how they portray ones who simply leave after seeing the light.
but notice how before the article ends they move on to satan and his wicked world.
OOOO---"cunning spirit". They sure give us lots and lots of credit. LOL
i just found a danish article in "jyllands posten" (yea, the ones who printed drawings of muhammed once).
i hope that my translation is ok, otherwise, please tell me if there is somewhere you dont understand it.. .
jehovahs witnesses to be investigatedmembers are encouraged by the leaders, to cease contact with those leaving the society.. .
That was a great article. Don't mess with Vikings. *teasing*

i spoke with my mother, told her everything, my doubts, my fears, my sins.
it came rushing out.
my mother is devastated.
I'm glad you didn't cave. I think it's hard, especially in the beginning, to stand up against such absolute conviction. You were at a disadvantage. He was sure he knew what was true, and maybe you were only sure you knew what was untrue---and you're still working out the details on what is true. That's a weaker position in a debate. Plus he has been trained to refute apostate teachings. Your life-long conditioning also sets in--it's really hard to just dismiss the elder's authority when your brain sometimes fires down old well-worn paths. But you did it!
How is 1914 an insignificant teaching? The entire religion is based on the idea that Jesus began his heavenly rule i n1914. Now they must whitewash and soften that teaching---focusing on doctrine instead of prophecy. But you remember, and you remember correctly. 1914 was a big deal. Remember how many times we studied the Revelation Climax book? That entire book was based on 1914. Or what about the book on Daniel's Prophecy? This isn't ancient history--as much as they wish it was. If it is so insignificant then why was it so prominent for over 100 years--nearly the entire life of the religion? So he tries to convince you that your worries are minor, and it's easy to forget they are actually major.
No dear KnowsMUCH, you didn't eat too much chocolate--unless the org is guilty of force feeding chocolate for over 100 years instead of that healthful spiritual food! YOU didn't concentrate on 1914, THEY did, and now they want to take it all back. They can't. Keep that in mind if there are any more rounds. It is my experience that when someone does wrong, they try to minimize it and distract you with other details. My brother is notorious for this (yes, he is a manchild and I have had to take care of him at times.) "Well I know I didn't cut the lawn, but I did the dishes! You just get mad about what I don't do and don't think about what I do!" I have to center myself and say, "it's irrelevent---you didn't cut the lawn."
So you see, the elder's points are irrelevent. They touted 1914 and they did wrong.

i resigned as an elder some time ago, have been working on fading, the wife is getting used to the new 'me' (not stressed, better husband and father, etc.
), been missing a lot of meetings... even received a few statements such as: 'hi burnedout, it's good to see you!!!
last sunday, i took my one of my sons to the local dragstrip to show him the races, oops missed the meeting.
The irony is overwhelming. Maybe they think offering you this "privilege" is just the boost you need to reactivate yourself! Maybe it's a fishing expedition to test your reaction. Maybe you could accept but get sick that morning---that would be a huge LOL. Get sick 5 minutes before you are scheduled, then you may be able to prevent a substitue from being able to spread the poison. win-win.
You're in a tough spot. Let us know what you decide. And look, you've been hurt enough by this organization. Don't allow it to now provoke you into hurting yourself. We are all proof that it all gets better and we all made it through. When you are in the midst of it, it's hard to see the end. But we are the end of that journey---we made it and so will you.

Congratulations. I'm sorry you will now experience some prolonged emotional terrorism, but it will pass. Continue to be very kind to your mother. The best thing you can do is prove to her that what she's been told about apostates is false. If she sees that, maybe one day she will question more.

where does the urge to convert people to ones own view come from?.
i grew up a jehovah's witness and jehovah's witnesses are always right.
that's where i learned to always be right and it took me years to realize that i could also "agree to disagree", although i still often forget about this.
I think it's kind of rough when they have convinced themselves that everyone else is going to hell if they don't warn them. I don't know if I try to convert people, but I know I love arguing my point. I'm not sure what motivates me---perhaps I'm just opiniated---or perhaps I want them to see it my way and agree. I don't know. Mostly I suspect I like to exchange ideas. Tec and I had a nice exchange, and in the end all though we didn't say it, we just agreed to disagree. Still if my thoughts are met with someone obnoxious, well I tend to dig in deeper and drop some of the tact. LOL maybe I'm just a contrary b*tch.

i am just curious if you guys left jw's and now worship in some other relgion or worship in your own way?
have you sworn off organized religion ?
if you have not sworn off organized religion then i wonder what relgion seems to be the right one for you guys?
Hi Joe, welcome. I don't know if you posted a hello post, but I see you are fairly new.
I left when I realized I no longer believed in a god at all. Still, I felt the loss of community. It's nice to be part of a group that helps you be the best you can be---without telling you what that best is. I go to a Unitarian Universalist church for that reason. They really don't care what you believe, or if you believe--the bible is not their text. So I consider myself a humanist and interested in social justice and ethics. I found a group of people with a huge range of beliefs, atheists, agnostics, wiccans, pagans, buddhists, christians--what ever-- that support me in those endeavors.

i was inspired by a recent thread i know i aint gunna crumble the wt, but a girl can dream to look at the effect we as individuals are having on the watchtower society.. 3dogs1husband quoted a story to show that even helping only one person is worth it.. it is encouraging to note that the one person you may have helped has lead to millions being helped, due to the power of compounding growth.. compounding growth is well illustrated by the rice on a chessboard problem.
if you start with 1 grain of rice on square one, and double it to 2 on the second, 4 on the third, 8 on the fourth, by the last (64th) square there would be 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.. likewise, if you help one person out of the grip of the watchtower this year, then next year you help one more and they help one, in a few years that is going to have a formidable result on the number of jehovahs witnesses.
look at the following statistics.
Something else just occurred to me, and you guys probably already discussed this in a thread cuz I never think of anything you haven't already discussed. I think that growth is even slower than it appears because of the 15 minutes service for the sick and elderly. If I understand this right, the borg gets it's numbers by how many people turned in time that month. No time, no count. I don't remember the year "Jehovah so lovingly" gave the option of reporting 15 minutes for the sick and elderly, but before that they had to add up their time until it equaled an hour and THEN submit it and be counted. So some of that number may be people that historically only got counted 4 times a year. Now they get counted every month. It's an artifical hike, because they were always there, but not counted. You'd think their numbers would have increased quite a bit, but they continue to decrease, even with that slight of hand.
