RI, are you not interested in discussing the real issues behind the rhetoric? I'll stop looking for your answer if that is so. I was hoping to find one conservative that could speak respectfully and reasonably. I'm just interested to see if we put aside the anger and bombastic language if there are solutions in the middle.

i'm atheist, and she knows there's nothing she can say to change that.
besides, she knows i've been doing a great deal of research into the society and could decimate any argument she could put forward that the wtbts is what it says it is, so she doesn't want to go there at all.

i've been watching and learning for a while, nice one on helping me see the real truth!.
long story short -> got interested in christianity, jws first to ask me about it, studied for a few months, realised they were wrong, tried to be a good undercover apostate, got bored, left, joined a local protestant church.. anyway thats not the reason i'm posting.
Welcome Eself. Congratulations on dodging the bullet! I don't know if anything you say will cause them to think. It's frustrating I know, but here is how they view you. You are a study with limited knowledge. They are there to teach you, not you teach them. The walls are up and everything you say will be reworked in their minds. You ask a question that you hope will challenge them. They will see it as interest and go back to research it. They will answer the question to THEIR satisfaction and expect that to be enough for you. They may try to move on to a different point--reasoning that you aren't ready to discuss that JUST YET. They will hope that if they can convince you about other things, your trust in the GB will grow and eventually you will accept their spin on things.
As long as they are captive to the concept it's difficult to shake them up. The doubt has to come from within them--and they have many layers of defense against that.

LOL, oh you're in their book alright. When I was in it was not uncommon for me to stop in on someone who showed only mild interest a year before. Because we were on their street. And I didn't want to sit in the car. And I got to count it as a return visit. LOL

RI, that is pretty vague and subjective. I did hear a lot about that rape and it was soundly condemned, and I listen to the liberal media. I'm not sure why you didn't hear that.
No honesty and trust in government: can you give me specifics? There is a problem, but I don't see that liberals are more guilty than conservatives. For instance, you pointed out Weiner and I counter with Vitter. Talk about Edwards and I can counter with Ensign. None of us like to see this behavior by either side. I am puzzled as to why you hold liberals responsible though. Can you give me a specific? We can move the conversation forward that way.
Wisconsin--well we do live in a country that allows that kind of protest. It may not be your thing, but maybe the working people feel that the conservatives were acting like thugs. That isn't a statement to make you mad, it's just an observation. There are many views and these people felt like this was their only power. They wanted their voices heard. If you believe demonstrations were out of line, then how do you think they should have made their voices heard? Is there a way you find more acceptable? I'm just trying to figure out how the workers could have protested that the conservatives would not have found it offensive.

RI, you never answered my questions. I was trying to understand your side of the issues. Again you say Soros I say Koch brothers. I'm trying to get behind it all, because if each of us does our part to try and understand the other, that will spread.

They absolutely were testing the waters and counting time. AND they get to count you as a return visit. They have your name and address in their call books. It probably unfolded something like this:
They are out in service and sister A has a return visit on such and such street. THEN Sister B says, "Oh, that's where StillThinking lives. I can stop in on her and see if there is any interest."
That is how service works. You head to an area and everyone checks their call books to see if they have someone the area that they can visit. This is part of the house-to-house activity but a more focused part.

so, i am getting ready to move across the state.
we bought a home there, and have taken a couple of loads over, with the main move being this next week.
i went over this last week cause i wanted to paint the kitchen and dining room before we moved in (a lot easier to do without grandkids and dogs under foot).. anyway... here i am painting away when there is a knock on the door.
Dear such and such Kingdom Hall. Two women from your organization visited my home today. I was extremely busy painting and told them no thank you, but they continued the conversation. I disagreed with something they said and they called me an apostate. I don't even know what that means or why they would call me names, but could you please advise your followers that if they continue to come to my door and call me names, I will have to notify the police. Should I expect further abuse in my new home?
