When and how did the GB start cracking down on the dubs social life?

i can remember when i was first assimilated, the jw's did alot together, they went to the park together, they had picnics, days out together.. .

somehow by the 90's this had stopped.

did i miss somthing?

I don't think my congregation ever really followed those rules on large gatherings. We still had them. It's been 3-4 years, so maybe they have shaped up.

BUT, before I left, there was a change in arranging meals. From what I remember, it could no longer be done through bookstudy. If sisters wanted to arrange meals, they had to do it on their own with no support from the bookstudy setting. Now I'm reading it needs elder approval?????

Can anyone tell me the "reasoning" behind it. What could they possibly have against it? Those meals really helped me through a difficult time, and I just can't even imagine what the problem is. However, before I left, they also quit announcing illness and hospitalizations. I figured it had to do with HIPPA and privacy issues. Could this be attached to something like that?

Is It Normal for a JW to give a Return Visit print-outs of information?

yesterday i had another visit from a jw who has started calling on me after a few discussions.

i wrote about her in a previous thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/209531/1/jw-at-my-door-admits-that-shee28099s-had-doubts i'm pretending to be an interested one, and we've had some nice discussions.

i am trying to get her to research her religion via "innocent" questions i bring up.. i've noticed that each time she calls on me, she's given me printed information.

When I was in, I remember doing acrabatics so I didn't have to accept literature from other people. We even discussed it on parts. One brother's solution was to say that he came to the door to share his news. If they have news to share, they can come to his door. One sister panicked and couldn't think of what to say when offered some literature, so she took it but threw it in a ditch. You may be able to give her your research, and maybe she'll read it, but chances are against that.

Why do I no longer get attacked and persecuted by the demons, since I left JW,s ?

most jw.s really believe that they ( as we once did ) are promoting gods will, but what if they really are ?

is it possible that god is supporting them even though they (governing body ) lie, because most jw,s are ignorant of the lies told on their behalf, ?.

when i was a jw i got attacked by the demons bigtime, but not now, and i can only assume that they (demons ) are happy that i am no longer a jw and are now leaving me alone, cant think of any other reason, has god ever supported a group who were similarly found wanting ?.

and of course, i had some fun with them... an older, brunette woman who obviously dyes her hair and could stand to lose a bit of weight, and a slim blonde teenage girl - probably around 15 - 17.... i started out by asking them if they knew how old the bible was.... .

(and unfortunately, i think i demonstrated that i wouldn't make a very good "undercover" bible study prospect... .

but they didn't even know how old - young - the bible was!!.

This story will always stick with me. I love how he explains his world suddenly became like HD. That's exactly how I felt when I finally embraced my atheism. It was the flood myth that opened my eyes too. He is so kind to his wife. What a great guy.

Hmph. I don't believe the bible is an authority--however--out of a desire to be helpful, I went with scriptural reasoning. Even if you believe the bible is true---your beliefs on the demons is not found in the scriptures. Your beliefs on the demons are purely human superstition. The bible simply does not discuss the phenomena you have described. Not at all. As Essan said, you refuse to even acknowledge those arguments. I always suspected an agenda.

Wow. When I pick up my coffee mug, my weight increases by approximately--and this is just a guess, now--approximately the weight of the coffee mug. What DEMONISM and DEVILRY is this???? Must be the sorcery of the Metric system!!

LOL SD. Okay, so now we know if you pick up a table, and it weighs 10 pounds, you will supernaturally weigh 10 pounds more. Some scary sh*t. But how do they know when the cells are drawn out of the medium's body, she weighs EXACTLY half of her normal weight? Is someone taking measurments????

AND, what happens if I grab onto a helium baloon? Will I lose some more weight?

Edited: I recently did a research paper on the Victorian era here in the US. Spiritualism was at it's height in the late 1800's to early 1900's. These stories were EVERYWHERE. Seances were extremely popular. Spirit knockings went on constantly. Part of it was tied into the women's suffrage movement. Women were trying to gain some power---and of course they were more sensitive to the spirits than men---LOL. In the old age years some of the women admitted to the hoaxes they concocted because it gave them power and wealth. HOWEVER, one would think that GOD'S CHOSEN ORGANIZATION would not get involved in such things. One would think that.

SYL! I had read those excerpts before but haven't thought about them in a while. It will never cease to shock me.

We had a couple of cases of pedophilia where I went. I'm not in the habit of defending the WT, but in my case, I was pretty pleased with how they handled it. The elders helped put 2 "brothers" in prison, and when a third person who was associating did something questionable, 2 elders came personally to my house to make me aware of the problem and to watch my child. Announcements were not made, but a successful effort was made to make sure everyone knew the details needed to keep their children safe.

Of course, that was undoubtedly a liberal congregation---as JW's go. They didn't freak out much when people went to college, and they didn't dress nearly amish style. But I know that outside this area, the problem was handled much differently. I've been to those congregations, and they used to creep me out. Their attitudes toward dress seemed unbalanced, and the strong "good old boys" feel of the place made me sure they would cover up horrible acts. Especially if women or children were the victims.

Intel, parts of your post made me smile. I just want to have a little fun with it.

I included the sentence that I am doing this "out of my own will, without any other influence" > this one covers the point that could be alleged that you were coerced to do the letter. Well, you could always claim that you were coerced and influenced to write "out of my own will, without any other influence"

I also wrote that "I am in control of my full mental capabilities." > not some crazy flash thought, mental breakdown, etc. That's exactly what a crazy person would say.

"that I do not wish to be contacted or to be visited to talk about changing my mind." Back to point one.

I hope you are continuing to feel better. Take good care of yourself and your daughter.

Interesting. If she's just giving you printouts of JW material, that's not so rare. However if she independently studied and is giving you THAT info, well it's only a matter of time until we meet her.
