one of my old memories is of a watchtower calendar that was published sometime in the 60s, i think - it was a "glorious" full dolor depiction of armageddon - the earth opening up, buildings falling, etc.
it was, if memory serves (and it seldom does now) similar to the illustration from the old pink paradise book, except that it was in color.. does this ring a bell with any of you?

hello...i hope this is the proper place to pose my question.. i've been meeting with a fine jw couple for several months now and i have attended meetings with them twice at the kingdom hall.
a large segment of the congregation were people of color and it also seems that whenever i meet a jw on the street, they are more often than not african-american.
i was wondering if there was some explanation for this, or is just coincidence?
wonder how they'd react to find out I'm Mormon....

Considering you are a Mormon, I'm wondering *how many* minorities make up "more often than not" for you. Betcha anything they've seen more blacks and Hispanics in Salt Lake City with the Olympics for the past month than many have seen their whole life!
I was not surprised several years ago when a Black man had to sue the LDS in order to be ordained.

Anyhow, the short answer to your question is, it really depends on where you live. I have attended congs made up of 95% white, and 95% black. And now that I think about it, 95% Puerto Rican when I lived in PR of course.
Others may have differing opinions, but I'm sure there's not too many blacks attending in Idaho and I'm sure there's not too many whites attending in Washington DC or "Hot-lanta."

i dont know if anyone else has noticed the alarming number of jws who claim to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrone,i mean hear in cornwall there tend to be several sufferers in every congregation,outside the jws out of the many people i know i dont know anyone,although there are obviosly many outside the jws who suffer this illness,percentage wise it seems that jws have a much,much larger occorance of the illness.. for example my brother in law has not worked and been living on invalidity benefits for more than 10 years since his mid twenties,his brother is also in the same boat, an m.e sufferer.. i wonder if anyone has looked into this a bit more?

Sleepy, no one doubts that the mind/body connection exists. Sign me up, as my mother has these two 'diseases' and various others. I know well that her mental state has contributed to her (negative) belief in her health.
Also, her impression that "the new system" is the ONLY thing that will bring her any relief also gives her an excuse to not properly care for her body now.
Her diet sucks, her exercise regiment is non-existent.
There is a word I'm thinking of but I didn't get much sleep last night. It means that your mental state of being can affect your physical health, that's what JWs have. Esp the women.
How many JW women do you know that hit the gym once a week, much less three times?
