  Help - I'm going to be conducting the watchtower study

  it looks like i'm going to have to take the watchtower study for a while so i thought i'd seek help.. i wont be outing myself or stating anything too controversial, but so far i have come up with the following tactics : 1) ask questions which will get people thinking even if it is about something insignificant - developing a questioning mind is the key to discovering ttat as far as i am concerned.

  2) highlight any extreme points so that some might realise they are extreme.

  3) highlight any good points - helping others in need for example - just because it is the right thing to do.. if anyone has any general comments which could help, please post them here.

  According to the Bible, GB is committing an unforgivable sin

  “the soul that does something deliberately [footnote says “with uplifted hand”] whether he is native or an alien resident, he speaking abusively of jehovah’s word, in that case that soul should be cut off from among his people.” (numbers 15:30).

  according to this verse, acting with “high-handedness” and “speaking abusively of jehovah’s word” constitute disfellowshipping offence.

  1) “high-handedness” is something that jws themselves silently experience from jb, hence require no witness or proof.

  I had a JW stop to give me a Memorial invitation. After he got a cordial grilling I pointed him to "Crisis of Conscience" and JWfacts.com. These two sources had me out of the cult in a week after 50 yrs. in.

  Shunning: is it still practiced?

  I make no secret of being a staunch opposer to the cult. Still, I have encountered the entire gamut of reactions from Witnesses. My mother never shunned me or any of her children who were DF'd. I still have a number of friends that I see in public that greet me with a smile & handshake. I have others that will go out of their way to avoid me. When I was in, I never refused to talk to anyone, even as an elder.

  Americans aren't allowed to grow their own food?

  i was recently told by an american i was chatting to online that in the usa people are not allowed to grow their own food.

  she said that if you have a vegetable patch or something that the government will come along and bulldoze it?

  she said that farmers are not allowed to grow food either and that the government bulldozes the crops if they grow?.

  Coming to terms with the Watchtower experience

  it is a challenge coming to terms with your experience as a jehovah's witness.

  if you were born and raised as a jw, and your parents were true believers, the impact on your life is profound, lasting, and largely negative.

  in some cases quite abusive emotionally, spiritually, financially, educationally and yes, even sexually.. i recently watched "trumbo", and was quite moved by dalton trumbo's speech to the screen writers guild in 1970. here is an excerpt that i think is quite relevant to this topic:.

  I cut the GB no slack. They, like every other manmade religion, know the damage they do. They know the suffering & pain caused by their actions. They fall in the same category as the Scribes & Pharisees. They have knowingly pissed off God directly like every other religious leader. I think that would be a bad thing.....

  Reminds me of the Shawshank Redemption. After a lifetime in prison, Red realizes he's become "institutionalized" & probably wouldn't make it on the outside. I never talk to older ones about TTAT. They too, have become institutionalized. By the way, if you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it. Another apostate "must see" flick like the "Matrix".

  just for the mere fact that i wasn't anger and bitter and ready to declare the gb the sociopathic criminals that so many here ascribe to, my initial question digressed to bickering over ad hominem attacks against the gb and not my beliefs that i'm questioning.

  some did give me some help on my questions.

  Status update and hello.

  i haven't posted here in a few months and to be honest i haven't been lurking either.

  i hope everyone is doing well.😊 i wanted to take a minute to let you know how things have been the last few months.. recently the brothers decided to finally consider my letter of resignation.

  they met with me alone and i let them know why i have become inactive as a publisher and why i no longer wish to serve as an elder in the congregation.

  Hi DK; I too, was an elder. I've been out long enough to look back at what I was taught with a critical eye. Still, I believe some things taught made sense then & make sense now. I still believe that indeed there would be a period of time before God would intervene & correct mankinds' attempt at ruling himself. Until that time, it would be unjust for him extend loving kindness to some & not to others. I've seen my fair share of personal suffering, but I believe everyone comes back. (Other than those that have pissed off God directly.) I still pray. I thank God for life itself but I have quit asking for anything else. It's not time. We will all grow old & die. I'm confident many generations after us will do the same. In time, yes, I expect to be back. I expect to see all who have gone before me. I know it's not much to hang on to; but it has helped me immensely to carry on with life. I hope it helps you as well.
