Linuxbob (love your name) - allegedly they give discounts, but it is most certainly a control ploy, as well.

Any more fond (not so) DC memories?
by outsmartthesystem inmy oldest child was barely 4 months old and not an easy baby.
she cried all the time....and getting her to sleep during the day was a pain.....especially in a facility that was 80 degrees with a/c.
on sunday afternoon of the dc....knowing we had a two hour drive home (she also didn't sleep in the car well).....i went to an "off limits" area with her.

2009 convention, my oldest son was 9 and has asperger's syndrome. My younger son was not yet 2 and still nursing. Knowing how overwhelmed my 9 yr old would be the WHOLE WEEKEND, I regularly took him to the nursing room with me. He was known in there, the moms knew us, knew him, it wasn't an issue.
Some brother was stationed to attend there, though who knows why, and he tried to stop me from bringing my older one in with me. I was not about to let someone who knew jack shit about autism and even less about me tell me what to do. I told him, "Oh, it's ok, he has autism and he goes with me regularly." And the guy came back, "Well, the other sisters might be uncomfortable, blah blah blah." I told him, "Well, that's a risk I'm willing to take."
I did apologize to him later, for being so rude (now I wouldn't), and he was fine. Bottom line: do not mess with me and my children. You will not win.
People not understanding our kid and our family was actually one of the factors that pushed us out.

I wish the US would get it's shit straight and just legalize it. Decriminalize. Whatever the hell. Quit going state by state on this crap and make it federal.
It helps my migraines, it helps hyperemesis gravidarum (I have not used it for this, myself, but I am currently suffering from this condition), it helps my fibro, it helps anxiety, it helps me destress, it helps ALL my ailments!

Nugget, our boy also has Aspergers and how we were treated because of it was a big part in us leaving. Heh. YAY Aspergers! lol
One year, when I was about 16, my parents and 3 brothers and I all went to our convention at the Providence Civic Center. The seating there in the upper level had 3 rows of double seats along the the side, then one long row overlooking the balcony. That year, my parents sat in the first 2 seats of that long row over the balcony, my 4 yr old brother and I sat in the first 2 double seats directly in front of them, and my other 2 brothers sat in front of me. At one point before the morning sesion began, I went back to our seats and some sister was moving my parents books! I told her they were my parents books, my 4 yr old brother was sitting in front of them, etc., and this stupid woman DIDN'T CARE. She said, "We're just moving them back one row because we need most of this row." She wouldn't quit, so I left and told my parents, who, thankfully, were at the bottom of the steps talking to friends. My dad went up and told these "sisters" that they needed to leave my parents stuff alone and find their own seats. They argued a bit, but my dad won. The sisters moved to the OTHER END OF THE ROW which was not taken. Why they insisted on screwing around with my parents books, I'll never know. The WHOLE DAY they also made sure to climb over my parents to get to the rest room, even though the other end was more accessible. ????

Failed Marriages..."Born ins"
by xelder init is impossible to unweave the complex cobweb of a failed marriage and totally understand it, let alone to generalize the occurance for many other couples.
but, let's assume the case of a marriage of two typical jw born-ins.
as far as jw's go, they grew up without major disfunction, still talk to their parents, etc.. in cases like this, how many of these couples are still together?

Baltar447 & I have been married almost 15 years. He's born-in, I'm raised-in (I was 4 & 5 when my parents got baptized). Since being out we're much stronger, much better off. I mean, we always were a strong couple, once he let go of the fact that he didn't marry June Cleaver. ;) But we're definitely better.

Why is the Memorial so important to JWs?
by Ding inseriously.... there's a meeting where wt dogma is taught... nothing unusual there.... they pass around bread and wine and in the vast majority of khs no one at all partakes.. if anything, it is a pantomime of wt teaching that the "great crowd" of "other sheep" have no part in the blood and body of christ.. hardly something to celebrate....

Punk, I swear, your wife and my mother were twins separated at birth. My mom spills the same kind of freakish garbage. She can't let anyone tell her she's wrong. She loves Jehovah. She loves the org. The elders protect her.

I have so much anger right now ... I don't even know what else to say. It disgusts me that there is this much hold over them. And NOTHING we say is getting through. I wish I knew how to break through that shell.

MGG20, welcome to the board, sweetie. Please take things slowly, ask a lot of questions, and do your research. This is not an easy undertaking.
I'm Baltar's wife. Everything he said pretty much holds true for me, too, except that I'm atheist. How can I believe in something that has no proof of existence? Incidentally, I also no longer believe in the existence of satan.
Baltar and I hve been out almost a year, physically, though it's been a little bit longer for us mentally. We were both done by the time memorial of last year rolled around, but had to keep up appearances for my mother. She now knows we're done, but at the time, we lived with her & my dad and needed to keep having a place to live!
This is my blog, if you're interested in reading a little bit about us: http://theratherunusual.blogspot.com/ It doesn't have a lot of posts, so it shouldn't be terribly overwhelming for you to go through.
Much love to you, sweetie. You need it.
