long time lurker from the uk... making my first post ooh scary...the reason posting now is that i need some advice on talking to my jw family and friends, without their walls coming up!
having read this forum for a good year, you all seem to be expert linguists!
i want to be like an indiana jones type character and slip through the sliding door in to the tomb (my sisters brain!
Wow student that is awesome. I would just keep encouraging her art. Everytime you see her just keep praising her, and telling her how proud of her you are because of her accomplishments. No one in the cult will praise her for "wordly" things.
Keep commenting on her non-JW bf. Tell her how glad that you are that she has someone in her life that will understand her, since he also is creative.
Remember "you can catch more flys with honey than vinager."
Good luck keep us posted.

i've met some wonderful friends here at this forum, but it's time for me to put the jw religion to rest.
it will be 15 years this october that i daed myself which in retrospect i wish i wouldn't have done as there are some former sisters who i would love to give a big hug and talk with who are in pain mentally, but i can't.
i agreed to their "rules" when i was baptized.
It is understandable that at sometime we all need to move on. Have fun in life, you sure will be missed around here. Good luck in all that you do.

there are only 2 days left of their semi annual sale.
most items 1/2 price.. in their aromatherapy collection the stress relief pillow mist (peppermint and rosemary) is out of this world.
(although not on sale, worth every dime) $10.00.
just releasing some steam, but i'm going to be missing my siblings wedding this summer due to the fact i'm dfd.
my sibling invited me but i can't justify the travel expense (across the country) to observe a 20 minute ceremony and then go to a motel alone while everyone is stuffing their faces.. i just hits at the core of human relationships and is so divisive, but that is the point.
after months of no communication, my mother calls me this week to remind me of what i'm missing out on.
It truly is amazing to me how they think to treat one cruel wants us to return to a religion. Really it is very stupid on their part, but it does serve the power and control issues the cult has.
Sorry you felt you could not attend your brothers wedding. When my grandparents passed away last year I was told up front by my family that I could not attend any after reception since I had DA'd myself. For a minute I almost wanted to go, and just watch people walk away...it sure would have made my family mad. But then decided that I need not act like them, and I would remember my grandparents as the wonderful people that they were.
Take care.

First welcome Tallman glad you are here with us.
I saw red when I read the three points that they were marking people for. As has already been stated it is a form of self-righteousness. They always admonish not to gossip, but these tactics all lead to gossip.
Moshe glad it worked out so well for your ex and your kids. When I was DF'd the samething happened to my kids. No one wanted to be around them. You know those apostate cooties were bound to come into contact with those righteous believing children. Worked out well for me all three of my kids now view the JW's as a cult. Thank goodness they decided to not only shun me, but my girls.

i have been working on this article for quite some time as it kept getting longer and longer.

i often write on the swedish board for ex-jw: http://www.network54.com/forum/349340/.
it's so much easier for me to write in swedish.
it takes a lot of effort to find the right words in english.. i understand most of what i read here, but it means more hard work to try to express my thoughts in english.. anyway, i finally wanted you all to know that i appreciate this board.
Welcome Madame and your English is wonderful. So glad to hear from those that English is not their first language.

First welcome. Glad you decided to post. I have to agree with Mrs Smith...slow slow slow. A little at at time. Just a seed of doubt. When you come right at a JW with what you know about the "lie" then all they do is look at you as an apostate, and become defensive. Their minds shut down immediately and they are no longer really listening to what you are saying. Good luck keep coming back.
