I think its shameful to bait people with "the paradise earth". The supposed reason for everything is the vindication of God's name. Why put the "New System" out there in a manner of more prestige than vindicating the Name?
It makes it seem like the reason for going along with the JWs is solely for personal gains. Gotta get into the "New System" at all cost.
Kinda like wanting to go to heaven just to be in charge.

Its like telling a 10 yr old, you'll be 50 sooner than you think.
No matter, we are talking about people who have a belief system built on numerology and astrology moreso than the actual Bible. -

Is the Watchtower finally changing for the better?
by Dead Man Joaquin ini'm having a hard time figuring things out here.
the last few years it's become increasingly cultish - i.e.
the public & kool-aid editions, the infamous november(?

There's too much real discussion at book studies and not enough talking "at". Out of all the boredom , the book study is the most relaxed open atmosphere. Probably why the real Christians met in private homes.
The KH, like most church buildings is a cold atmosphere with little to no discussion taking place .... just lectures.
I think they should have called the book study "school" and the KMS "public speaking assistance". -

The Watchtower promotes a Satanic Devilish view

They probably heard about all the skipping of reading, question asking only, and spurring of real discussion. That real discussion stuff makes people go home to check ... the next thing you know....he he he.

I think the loon is right. Everyone knows certain "reptanoids" were hatched from the UFO which crash landed near Roswell. This is why inbreeding isn't seen as a taboo in certain circles.

The Presumption of Divine Appointment!
by Confession inthe watchtower society has frequently denied that they are divinely inspired prophets.
yet they demand they be considered as if inspired prophets, not even allowing the flock to question or have doubts about any of their teachings without coming under scrutiny.. .
similarly, many of our beloved active jws--although knowing full well we don't recognize the society as any sort of divinely appointed agency--still expect us to act as if they are.

Interesting thoughts.
Frankly, its interesting to listen to Jesus "invisible" return recounted when the Bible (not the WT) plainly stated he's pretty much supposed to be "out there" for everyone to see when he returns. Its one of those he's over here, no he's over there', no he's invisible .... er yeah, don't follow behind that person kind of thing.
Decades of "its just around the corner" guessing dates and other Ouija board stuff from people who are "supposed" to understand date and time of "when" isn't anyone's business to know but God's. Its like the GOE, big guy can't even have one tree (secret) to himself.
They just keep picking the fruit that doesn't belong to them.
Way out of context scriptures. So much so they become irrelevant to any point being made. An unnatural obsession with smurfs and yard sales (because of demon leaping), Jesus gets honorable mention once or twice a year.
Then there's all sorts secretly on anti-depressants making you wonder what the hell kind of "Happy People" are we? But the biggest faux pas, is that they don't tell anyone the "old light" because they're afraid that the ones who declared God was choosing them were kooks ... and out the window goes their very foundation.
However, I honestly think Russel was sincere in trying to learn the Bible while Rutherford was a maniacal nut bag opportunist.

In the book, Lifton outlines the "Eight Criteria for Thought Reform":
1. Milieu Control. This involves the control of information and communication both within the environment and, ultimately, within the individual, resulting in a significant degree of isolation from society at large.
2. Mystical Manipulation. There is manipulation of experiences that appear spontaneous but in fact were planned and orchestrated by the group or its leaders in order to demonstrate divine authority or spiritual advancement or some special gift or talent that will then allow the leader to reinterpret events, scripture, and experiences as he or she wishes.
3. Demand for Purity. The world is viewed as black and white and the members are constantly exhorted to conform to the ideology of the group and strive for perfection. The induction of guilt and/or shame is a powerful control device used here.
4. Confession. Sins, as defined by the group, are to be confessed either to a personal monitor or publicly to the group. There is no confidentiality; members' "sins," "attitudes," and "faults" are discussed and exploited by the leaders.
5. Sacred Science. The group's doctrine or ideology is considered to be the ultimate Truth, beyond all questioning or dispute. Truth is not to be found outside the group. The leader, as the spokesperson for God or for all humanity, is likewise above criticism.
6. Loading the Language. The group interprets or uses words and phrases in new ways so that often the outside world does not understand. This jargon consists of thought-terminating clichés, which serve to alter members' thought processes to conform to the group's way of thinking.
7. Doctrine over person. Member's personal experiences are subordinated to the sacred science and any contrary experiences must be denied or reinterpreted to fit the ideology of the group.
8. Dispensing of existence. The group has the prerogative to decide who has the right to exist and who does not. This is usually not literal but means that those in the outside world are not saved, unenlightened, unconscious and they must be converted to the group's ideology. If they do not join the group or are critical of the group, then they must be rejected by the members. Thus, the outside world loses all credibility. In conjunction, should any member leave the group, he or she must be rejected also[1]. -

Faders
by Awakened at Gilead ini'm new to this board but i see many term themselves as faders.
i may just fade away, but on the other hand, i went ahead and told the elders that i don't believe in the wts garbage anymore.
1914, fds, al of it, i told them, is "rubbish" (i didn't want to say bs in the kh).

I am late to this party but I also wanted to say welcome to you AAG. Gilead sounds much like Pioneer school, just longer. Had some very good friends who were missionaries (an older couple) when I lived abroad. IMO JWs abroad, particularly in 3rd world countries, are a world apart from those in the US.
Why do so many of you, knowing that the WTBTS is false, still attend services or conventions? Is it entertainment value or are you afraid to be disfellowshipped and lose your friends and/or family? I don't get it.
Curious.
I haven't gone in years .... and I won't step foot in a KH, let alone an assembly hall.
