  I overheard a nauseating conversation . . .

  i was in the produce section of a local market, when i happened to overhear the following comment: "we celebrate christ's birth every day of the year, not just on christmas!

  " i turned and knew the nature of the source of the comment immediately, judging by the polyester pantsuit and delusional "deer in headlights" look on her face.

  her companion replied, "but i like celebrating christmas and don't see anything wrong with it.

  Does anyone find it too painful to read the WTS publications?

  been out 13 years and even for research purposes, i find it way too painful to read this wt stuff.. and why?.

  all the painful memories it brings back.

  don't misread me, it has nothing to do with a guilty conscience.. it has to do with the real pain, the anger of being ripped off and lied too by the wts, the anger of seing how they have protected child molesters, sacrificed its followers by refusing blood transfusions, the treacherous way we and others were treated by the 'unloving brothers'.

  I actually liked the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived book [for some strange reason I had the feeling it was written by a woman or someone very in touch with his femme side] ... and that's about it. No WT & Aw!

  As for the WT, why do some bother to pre-read the articles? Its not like they won't be read boring paragraph by boring paragraph while you're at the KH. You could be doing something far more pertinent with your time - like filling a Pez dispenser.

  No. Hope4others makes good points about the pressures many families face, and then the keeping up meetings and field service. It can all get too much. You never feel good enough, always inferior. Even when you try to improve, its not enough. Go to therapy and you're told you shouldnt do it because you might be taught unscriptural and worldly thinking. Its like being caught between a rock and a hard place. What do you do?

  Some in the congregation still believe that mental illness can be fixed by just witnessing more, studying more, and making sure you're at every meeting. No, it goes deeper than that.

  Exactamundo. Anyone who has worked with large groups in say agencies or has supervised a large number of employees knows that continuously telling poeple under your care that enough is never enough, will drag them down.

  Some seem not to understand, you can certainly depress the heck out of perfectly normal people. Just throw on an overbearing load of tasks, tell them they aren't ever good enough, advise them to do "more", policy: if a problem arises simply ignore it and busy yourself w/work, and lastly say there's a "real soon" timeframe to get the work done. You will crush their spirits ... easily.

  How are you faders doing?

  just wondering how all you slow faders are doing.i know this subject is discussed many times,but personally i wish it was more.we should post every once in a while just to say how we are doing,we need to encourage each other.as for me,it is still going very slow.right now i'm looking into the history that is being covered up.i have learned so much just by reading the older threads.it is very painful for me because this was the truth.and to be finding out so much crap that 99% of jw don't even know,it just is unbelievable.i have cut my field service down,and miss more meetings then i ever did.i'm hoping the sister that is in my face all the time,trying to help me,will forget about me soon......so how are you doing?.

  one of the first baby dolls i gave my granddaughter was a cute little black baby doll.

  she still has it in her car seat and if you try to take her doll from her she says, "my baby!!

  Nope. Lived in various Countries and various US States. Like Lillith, I'd have to hate my entire family. Its not like skin color makes sameness: Are the Brits and the Irish and the French the same because of skin color or the Ghanians and Congans and Jamaicans the same because of skin color? No, their cultures are completely different. I find those differences interesting.

  Mango & Chicken, Pork & Pineapple, Salmon & Cream Cheese & Strawberries, Liverworst & Grapes, etc. [Of course there is also lemon & lime.]

  today my 15 year old daughterand i went to the local craft fair, went to olive garden for lunch, then ran over to ross to shop a little, and as we were walking out of the store, low and behold, who was coming straight at us??.

  (my daughters grandmother.

  ) she was headed straight toward us.

  Sorry to hear about your MIL ... doncha just wish sometimes a giant fish would pop out of nowhere and swallow a few folks?

  Next time you and your daughter both see the starer, why not have your daughter go over solo and say hello and give her a big hug? See if the ole MIL runs from her or not? Or simply say 'hi grandma' and wait to see if she returns your daughter's hello?

  Killing mean spirited people with kidness and refusing to stoop to their level is fun. I think what your MIL is doing toward your daughter is plain mean-spirited, there's no reason for it. She's simply taking her anger out on you by ignoring her grandchild.

  do jehovahs witnesses and their hierarchy claim that they receive direct revelations from god (jehovah)?

  if so, can you give me quotes, i would like to show some of my family members who say they are not like the pope of rome, or the mormons.

  Why is Ray Franz the only GB member to have ever resigned?

  it's always seemed a bit odd to me that ray franz is the only gb member to have ever resigned, particularly for such a controversial religion.. we know from ray franz's books that there is often debate amongst the gb about new ideas sometimes introduced and often they are quite divided in their opinions.. i am not sure when the "governing body" officially began (wikipedia's explanation is messy) but it was quite a few decades ago.

  there have been dozens of members of the gb since it's creation (does anyone know the exact total number?).

  one would think that there would have been a few more disgruntled gb members over the years who would have resigned if the gb voted against some proposal they felt very strongly about.

  How many generational welfare recipeints get off? Honestly, these guys are one step above welfare queens, the difference being every now and then they send out a book for all the money they get. No charity, no food packages for needy 'friends', no building small homes for low income 'friends' [the ones they encouraged not to go to college], nothing, nada.

  They stay beause they don't want to have to get real jobs, pay rent, pay gas & electric, buy their own gas, have a car note, buy food, live in the real world .... those are scary things for people who have never had to do so.

  Like the catholic heirarchy, they are content to live in high security domiciles off of other people's money, while the majority of their "flock" can barely scratch together two nickels.

  Franz leaving was like leaving off of welfare. A brave thing to do considering his age at the time.
