What would the WT do if anti shunning laws were passed?
by Aussie Oz inwhat would the wt do if say, a country or countries enacted a law that made shunnung illegal?.
punishable by time in prison or heavy fines?.
would they have the gall to 'obey god as ruler' rather than man, and actually continue the practice in defiance of the law even though they would incur the wrath of governments?

How do you feel about not seeing your dead loved ones again?
by highdose init always felt rather unatural the thought of seeing people who had been dead for years.
how would they come to terms with the huge passage of time that had passed?
how would they be able to cope with the fact that their family had probably hugely changed since they had died.

It's sad to accept that I won't be seeing my dead loved ones again.
But that is not nearly as sad as accepting that I probably won't ever see some of my LIVING loved ones again who are JW.
That's really very, very sad.

All this, and they focus too much on the sugar, salt, and fat. Which raises the question: How did people manage to stay fit during the 1700s and 1800s? They ate far more fat than we do now (including pork, butter, lard, and coconut oil). They often ate sweets, usually sweets made from maple syrup and home-grown sweets. Yet, they almost never became tubs of lard. And they ate more calories. Of course, they didn't have monosodium glutamate (except gelatin, which they ate sparingly, and parmasan cheese which contains a small amount naturally), high fructose corn syrup, doctored soy or rape oils, margarine, egg substitutes, aspartame or sucralose, or all the prescription and non-prescription drugs we have today.
Very interesting stuff about the MSG. Thanks for posting that info! However, I do think the amount of sugar/white flour consumed is also a huge reason why people in the 1700's and 1800's were not fat.
People back then didn't eat refined sugar at every single meal and in snacks through the day (or even at all), but many of us do, they ate whole grains, not refined white flour (instant sugar in the body) like we do, and of course, they moved around working all day long while we sit in a chair working on a computer.
Today, there is refinded sugar, or worse, high fructose corn syrup (as you mentioned), in your cereal, in almost all breads found in grocery stores (even in most of the 'healthy' breads), in the sandwich meat, in the mayo, in the sodas, the rotisertie chickens that are cooked for you at the grocery store, in the canned soups, in the frozen foods, in the seasoning packets sold for meat, in the fast food, in yogurts, in protien and health bars, salad dressings, canned tomato sauces, dried fruits (already naturally sweet! why add refined sugar??), sports drinks, energy drinks, chicken nuggets, most all other processed foods, and on and on!
And those are just the foods we don't think of as 'sweets.'
Add to that that candy and soda are everywhere in our society (at the gas station, at the grocery store, at work in the break room, at school in vending machines...), and of course we are tubs of lard. also, we don't feel very good.

this is from a witness yahoo email group - It is just so telling
by therevealer inthe other day a bible student who is married said she found out her husband is sending msn messages and email to women saying he want to have relationship with her, and indicates he is single.
my student asked me if sexting or sending emails talking about sex grounds for a divorce in jehovah's eyes.
i tried doing reseach on this but i can't seem to find information about sexting.
-
lisaBObeesa
Because JW's value unity above all else, of course she MUST find out the approved JW rule on the matter of sexting.
JW's believe that people in God's One True Religion do things RIGHT. That is what makes them God's One True Religion.
JW's believe that ALLpeople in God's One True Religion do things RIGHT. So, all people in God's One True Religion must do things the same.
The RIGHT thing to do in the situation of a sexting spouse must be found in God's One True Religion's literature.
There is no other way to handle the situation. After all, if they don't look it up in the literature, how will they know what is RIGHT?

Is there a correlation between personality type and leaving the WT?...
by Tuesday inon facebook tonight there was a post asking to take a personality test, in posting the personality tests a trend started emerging that certain personality types seem to leave around the same time.. i came out as an intj which is introverted intuitive thinking judging.
which a good paragraph describing it was:.
intjs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "does it work?

INFJ
Introvert: 67
Intuitive: 25
Feeling: 50
Judging: 22
Born in, left at 18.
Basically, I left because the whole thing felt wrong. I knew it was wrong. There is no love, the priorities of the JWs are all out of wack, the teachings don't make sense, etc.

my strange neighbor
by jam ina neighbor four doors south of me.
the night before our trash pick up he send his sons out (20-30 year old) with their trash and fill up the neighbors trash cans.
i was speechless when my next door neighbor told me this.
-
lisaBObeesa
my 2 cents...
Sure, it's annoying and wrong of him to do it. But it really doesn't matter in the big picture. In over a year you never were impacted by it at all. Before the one time you tried to add trash on trash day, you didn't even know he did it and you were at peace. I would let it go and maybe even try to make friends with this strange neighbor.
(I pay for a huge trash can and I always tell the neighbors to feel free to put some in mine on trash day if they are overflowing and I have room...I mean why not? I've already paid for it and I have room in the can not being used...)

Elder body removed Watchtower letter
by Marvin Shilmer inelder body removed watchtower letter.
an elder body was removed last year in california.
most folks have never seen a watchtower letter breaking this news.
-

The elders are being deleted because a congregation is being dissolved, maybe for lack of attendance as a possible reason.
It doesn't say that. It says they decided the entire elder body is "not qualified to serve as elders."

What's With The JAPANESE?
by sizemik ini was rather impressed when the reports came through following the japanese quake with regard to the absence of looting.
sad to say, i cannot make the same claim about christchurch, new zealand.
looting took place within 24 hours of our february quake and the burgling of abandoned homes continues to be a significant problem here.. more recently further news reports have caught my eye, most notably these two .

There are good sides to Japanese culture (people working together for the good of society, etc) and there are bad sides to Japanese culture (being different in any way is not accepted and if fact is treated very, very poorly, and a constant overwhelming social pressure to conform and follow all rules, etc.)
All cultures have positives and negatives.
