This thread is so encouraging!
Does it not fill us with joy to see all the friends here on this thread joking around and having a good time? Not like the other threads in the world with all their horrible ‘topics’ and ‘discussions’'. I try to preach to them, but nothing yet. Maybe one day Jehovah will soften their hearts and they will join us.
That would be wonderful!

Geneaology - any tips for a noobie?
by sir82 insaw a news article on a guy who found an old class ring, 90 years after the owner lost it, and returned it to the owner's grandson.. in the article, a reference was made to the finder using the website findagrave.com to assist in locating the grandson.. on a whim, i typed in my grandfather's name on that website and found it!
my grandmother is on there too.. this led to a quick search on a free geneaology site where i found out more details on my grandparents, stuff my parents never told me (dysfunctional family, yada yada, skip boring parts).. .
i'm stunned - i had a mental picture of my grandparents from teh bits & pieces i got from my parents, but my whole picture has flipped!.

I LOVE ancestry.com I am obsesseed with it right now!
I have found out so much about my family and I enjoy it so much that I find it well worth the money I spent.
Evenually I will outgrow the site (I already feel that time is coming as I've almost searched all the searching I can search there), but as a newbie it's GREAT! They have tons and tons of records there to search, it makes it so easy.
If you do join, beware of copying other people's trees with their information. Ancestry.com make it very easy to do and it's not a very good idea. Other people really mess up their trees and you don't want to copy their errors. You want to build your own tree full of data you have records and sources for.
I found out that a cousin of mine was shot by Jesse James and his uncle tried to get revenge by joining the gang and then shooting Jesse at an unsuspecting moment! The uncle rode away (being shot at by other members of the gang) thinking he had killed Jesse James, but he had not. Thought that was a cool story to uncover....
I only had one picture of a certain great grandfather and I met another decendant of his on ancestry.com and she gave me a whole bunch of photos of him AND his kids (my grandpa...) and his family (my great great grandparents)!! Those pictures are wonderful treasures! And best of all I have a new cousin I never knew!
I found lots of other pictures of family members there, too.

Are you KIDDING me?
If you sent your kids to private Catholic school to get access to their education, you would be disfellowshipped.
If you joined to army because it was the only way to get access to the GI Bill, you would be disfellowshipped.
If you said you think it is ok to have a blood transfusion if it is the only way to get access to saving your life, you would be disfellowshipped.
You don’t even have to DO these things to get disfellowshipped. You only have to TALK ABOUT believing that you should be able to do these things and you will be disfellowshipped!
But THEY, the very ones who would DECLARE YOU DEAD spiritually and socially and cut you off from all your friends and family if you did the same, are saying it was ok for them to sign up as an NGO with the United Nations!!!
It is the most DIGUSTING kind of hypocricy.
People DIE for their Watchtower beliefs, yet their own leaders HAVE NO INTEGRITY and will sell out their beliefs for a LIBRARY CARD.
It is really, really, disgusting.
It's a disgusting sham.
People will do whatever these men say, and these men are hypocrites!
They should have been willing to DIE rather than become an NGO of the UN the same way their followers will DIE rather than salute the flag!
(And if you really believe they became and NGO to get a library card, I have a bridge to sell you.)

I miss you and hope to see you soon, too. When you die, God isn't going to accept "they tricked me!" as an excuse for the bad things you are doing in His name like using my dead father to emotionally manipulate me back into a cult. Love, XXXXXXXX

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet
by The Quiet One inregarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.

They said GOD PROMISED the end of the world would come before the generation of 1914 passed away.
By your own standards, The Watchtower Society is a false prophet.

No Blood Victims Memorial website - good or bad idea?
by cedars ini was reading the tragic story recently posted on this forum of an elderly sister who was hit by a car and died several days later due to blood loss.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/219473/1/another-jw-dies-after-refusing-a-blood-trasfusion.
it struck me how senseless and ludicrous the "no blood" policy really is.
as many have pointed out - older ones seem to be more at risk, because arguably they find the "new light" on the subject so confusing, and would rather say "no" to everything, just to be certain of their place in paradise.. i occurred to me that many die in this cruel way, but there is no real way of knowing just how common these events are, or how multitudinous are the victims of the watch tower society's approach to blood transfusions.. perhaps it would be a good idea to set up a "memorial" style website to remember some of those who have paid the ultimate price for the society's flawed teachings?
