when all this happened last tuesday i predicted the market would fall 600 to 1000 points and that gold and oil would go way up in price.. well, i got 1 out of 3 right.
batting .333. i sure wouldn't want to try to make a living on being able to predict stuff right.. just posting this to show that even a dummy like me can get things right once in a while, but that the intricacies of life are too complex for anyone to get everything or even a high percentage of things right.
live life.. hugs.

anyone here know if witnesses are allowed to serve in the military?
i know they're not allowed to fight in war, but are they allowed to be chefs for soldiers, for example.. when cornelius became christian, the bible doesn't say that he left his military career.. furthermore, matthew 5:41: "if someone in authority impresses you for a mile, go with him two miles.".
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The reason it is so inconsistant is that it is a judgement call by the local BOE. P.99,100 "Pay Attention" covers this. I can't conscienciously reprint it for you, but I bet someone will.

I found it interesting to see Sir Cliff making money out of the "Lord's Prayer" (I imagine the proceeds went to charity, but dont know). I guess there's no copyright infringement involved, but it was kinda unusual.

Hi Sunbeam,
>> PS and I are born-agains.
>> But don't let that put you off
It doesn't. So am I, but in retrospect, surprised whilst still within. Do you attend a church?
You see I've come to be of the opinion (cutting clean through what I've been taught, thanks to the HS) that there aren't just good and bad in all religions (as well as outwith), but those that are truly born-again, too.
I'm more than pleased to make your acquaintance, dear sister.
I'm starting to realise what a difficult time Cliff Richard must have had with Hank Marvin. It must have distressed him.

but whoever has this worlds means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of god remain in him?
little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth.1 john 3:17-18 nwt .
you must love your neighbor as yourselfmatt 22:39 nwt.
I almost bit my tongue in two last night.
My family were discussing the events and stated that the bethel had assisted by opening the doors and supplying people with refreshments.
I guess that was strictly true, when you look at the early reports, but I had no way of letting them know the extra details without exposing my involvement with this site.
Somedays I could weep, and this is one of 'em.

Thanks Eman - I needed something like that to cheer me up.

Hi Sunbeam,
Nice to hear from you, thanks for the encouragement.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us all meet up sometime.

It's about time the "Angel of the North" got re-painted, don't ya think, <g>.

You know, Amos, that's an interesting one - as I think about it further.
All the following is my interpretation, so it could be wrong - I'd love for any of the others to pitch in here:
By his actions he DA'd himself, yet confessed (hence should be classed as repentant) and so should likely be dealt with by the elder that he confessed to, and possibly the P.O., and then "helped to regain spiritual strength" (I'm probably gonna get flamed for that tongue in cheek comment <g>) by a couple of assigned elders.
Technically, since the blood issue is now not a DF offense, I can't see how a JC could have been legally formed.
Also, was he told, and was the announcement DF or DA?
It almost certainly should have been DA.
I would suspect that if he appealed (although it may be too late now, if it was over a week ago) that it would cause all kinds of interesting calls to the C.O. and legal department.
Regardless - he would still likely be castigated by the body (which would be felt by the cong. and probably reacted upon), and kept an eye on for further infringements.
That sounds wrong (and I personally hate it), but welcome to the real world.

I would suspect that law would state that the "loved ones" took a course of action under their own volition, and aren't around to receive the benefits of such a claim nor around to check on the state of their mind, to see if it WAS of their own volition.
But then I'm not lawyer (thank goodness), so I could be wrong.

well, today is sunday which means it's the watchtower study.
yipee!.
seriously there, folks, i just bet that there are record attendances today as all the fringers and umperty-jumps scuttle back to their kh's in terror of having made a wrong decision.
One scripture for the Wt., none for the g..
No news on increasing from 30-60 seconds, though.
I would question "many" going back to the hall.
It's early days yet, and there's only been the Thursday meeting (most people would have been in shock and glued to the telly on Tuesday). Seems rather early for such a report to be accumilated by the Sunday, even at the speed the [grapevine/gossip mill] works at.
Sounds more like wishful thinking to me.
Just my 2p

Hi Amos,
New stance on blood is that you are no longer DF'd, but by the course of your actions you DA yourself (like when you go to another church or join the military).
To be absolutely frank, it looks like a bit of legal twaddle to me.
The result is the same, as we all know.
