I just got fired and I may not have enough money to go to Italy
by tsunami_rid3r ini just got fired from my job as a waiter because she said i sucked or something along those lines.
i have a week before the fee is due, which is $1,700, and thats not including the plane ticket, my digging equipment, and extra spending money.
i already made a $300 deposit, and $1,700 is only for 3 weeks.

It sounds like your head is in the clouds with so many options.
The sensible thing would be to find another part-time job and stick to getting your education. It sounds like you can't really afford this field trip, no matter how much you would like to do it. Once you get your degree in "something" you will be better placed to get a reasonable job and follow your dreams.
Meanwhile, buckle down and ged 'er duuun!
Talking of which, I need to get back to the books myself. I have an assignment due in on Wednesday

The return of the Christian! With a Vengeance!!
by Gill inmy daughter goes to a church of england junior school.
until last year, there was virtually no 'pushing' of religion at the children.. however, the children are now required to pray three times a day: when they get to school, before dinner and before leaving school in the afternoon.. any child seen not putting their hands together, bowing their heads, repeating the words, and keeping their eyes closed is 'punished' by having to sit on the 'naughty chair' for five minutes.. on ash wednesday, the local vicar came and gave a service and made the mark of the cross on the foreheads of all of the children!.
i must admit i had not realised that the school had gone so wacky!.

Heathen:
The trinity makes no sense and it is easier to remove the one or two scriptures that allegedly support it .
And you wonder why, after comments like that, that noone takes your theology seriously?
Why don't we similarly provide a translation where we just take out the few verses that are difficult to a Trinitarian view? That way we can have two distinct bibles so people can believe exactly what they want with no challenge to their small minds
In the context of the canon of 66 books, both a Unitarian and a Trinitarian view take a stretch of the mind. That you dismiss the Trinitarian view merely because you don't understand it is a pretty poor show. I know you've clambered beyond the WTS view on so many things, so why don't you give this one a genuine shot as well. You likely will still not believe it, but at least you wont be touting your ignorance as a "sound argument" for said beliefs.

Have a word with the teachers. Make it plain that you were previous a member of the JW cult and subsequently find the forcing of religion onto another person to be heinous.
In this day and age of religious liberty there is absolutely no way a child should be punished for not performing a religious act. Its things like this that bring Christinaity into a similar disrepute as Islam. We have several hundred years of a drop on Islam, and should know better, but some Christians see a contemporary challenge and are reacting accordingly

Death, is death our only destiny?
by Blueblades insoon after we arrive on this earth, we become aware of the most fundamental fact of our existence, that we won't be here very long.
an average life span lasts less than 30,000 days.
we sleep a third of that time, so the days we experience number less than 20,000. we may try, but we can't ever completely deny our mortality.

Kid-A:
...we can live with courage, dignity and bravery, accepting that THIS is what we get and that each second should be utilized to its maximum potential, trying to leave a legacy behind us.
Why? Why is trying to leave a legacy behind us any less futile than occupying ourselves with pondering an afterlife? Surely all we are doing is transferring our efforts to an unknown [and likely ungrateful] generation, rather than to another [potential] cycle of our own existance? Is it truly any more altruistic when we are defining ourselves by our genetic heritage? Why is this deemed any more noble?
It is when we openly ask such questions that we realise that there is more to life than just science, and that philosophy has a justifiable place in human affections.

Someone to be Accouintable To
by Satanus ingrowing up w a very demanding/strict/abusive father, and w the wt religion and the yhwh god, i always felt that i was accountable to those authority figures, 24/7.
in my teen yrs, i had to leave home, so my accountabiblity to my father diminished.

- What are the greatest commandments?
- How do we know wee have passed from death to life?
- What is God?
- What is the sum of Christ's commandments?
- What is the greatest of the fruit of the Spirit?
Methinks you'll find that all of these focus on "love".
Surely God is glorified in this? But let's not put the cart before the horse. Is God glorified in an intellectual understanding of the Trinity?

I just realised that I need to apologise (DOH!). I should have started my posts with some appreciation for your concerns. You have every right be feel upset. You know the issues at stake, whereas your hubby does not and your mother is indoctrinated to be oblivious to them.

I don't do it very often, but I'm going to play the sperm card...
Chances are that hubby thinks that your feelings on the subject are irrational. Its unlikely that you'll convince him otherwise, now, without a great deal of effort. This is why it sometimes takes a third party to help the understanding process. Someone neutral, saying exactly the same things, might ellicit a better response.
I'm not saying its right, but most of us guys are wired this way. It takes an act of will to overcome it. Feel free to pity us.
Merry:That's a really good idea, especially if its just plainspeaking without going overboard.
