  Christians and dubs/treated same here

  hey guys.

  i got an idea as to why there is the same bitterness by many/not all, on this board twards christians like there is to dubs.

  you feel you have found it to be a crock just as the borg is and it makes you madder than crap to see people duped a second time.

  Anyone want to define truth or fact?

  To my mind it takes as much faith to be an atheist as it does a believer.
  It's a process of using your own reason to establish your own beliefs, based on the information that you let your own senses take in.

  At the end of the day what will be is what will be, be it a judgement day or universal entrophy.

  What I object to is being told what I must believe, and how I must believe it.
  Surely we can agree on that <vbg>.

  today's watchtower lesson instructs witnesses not to think for themselves when it comes to bible understanding:.

  augest 1, 2001, p. 14, par.

  first, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned.

  It just shows the danger of reading verses in isolation, and then dancing a tango amongst them.

  My Encounter with a Witness

  well, the other night i had invited a young man to my house to share with him, respectfully, the false prophecies of the wt, using older wt books.

  the conversation started very nicely, with the usual small talk and such.

  i decided to ask some questions, that i knew the answers to, but just wanted to get the gears in his head turning.

  Just as a suggestion:

  Have you tried asking them to bring a "book you heard about"?
  I was at my most shaky when I found stuff that looked blatantly wrong in MY OWN BOOKS!!!

  A relative was presented with an original copy of something 1975 -ish, by an "apostate" and wouldn't believe it because "they must have printed it themselves as a forgery!!!".

  Incidentally, I imagine it's the same in the States, as here in the UK. Subs have all but been done away with. You can't escape contact, if you want the mags, even if it is from a timid, causally dressed guy.

  i was wondering what others have experienced after being dad or dfd with regard to their jw family.

  im not wondering so much how they treat you but what are your feelings about them.

  i was raised as a jw in a really close family.

  Errrrm - no, I wouldn't agree with that, my friend.
  When my sister was DF'ed there were only a few relatives that didn't treat her like she had the plague (myself included).
  Everyone else castigated her.

  That was something pretty consistant with what I've seen in a lot of congs that I [have / have had] dealings with.

  As for the 5-10 years thing, I've not experienced it getting any better.

  I guess there is likely to be quite a variation throughout the counrty, though, as I do know one cong that ignore the shunning thing almost entirely.

  Anyone up on witness dogma?

  anyone here know if witnesses are allowed to serve in the military?

  i know they're not allowed to fight in war, but are they allowed to be chefs for soldiers, for example.. when cornelius became christian, the bible doesn't say that he left his military career.. furthermore, matthew 5:41: "if someone in authority impresses you for a mile, go with him two miles.".

  any help would be appreciated, thanks.
