  just the name connotes some weird, masonic, secretive organization!.

  They dupe you man. They tell you that is the means by which to accomplish the goal of God. It's funny. They tell you serving God is of the utmost importance and that nothing comes between that, then in the next sentence they are telling you that we can only do it through the Society. Make up your mind! Which is it?

  I would like your opinion on Bertrand Russell's comment

  could we discuss our reaction to bertrand russell's quote below?.

  if i were asked to prove that zeus and poseidon and hera and the rest of the olympians do not exist, i should be at a loss to find conclusive arguments.

  an agnostic may think the christian god as improbable as the olympians; in that case, he is, for practical purposes, at one with the atheists.. .

  You're right. I'll give an example. The WT was proven wrong about 7000 yrs=1 creative day. So they moved the goal posts, and now they too agree that the earth is billions of years old, that life also came about millions of years ago.

  However, I participate in a discussion forum on Beliefnet, and someone made an interesting observation. The creation account doesnot stipulate literal days. Why? Because the 7th day never is said to have finished. I'll post and excerpt and the link.

  Knowsnothing, the Bible language pretty clearly indicates a much longer than 24 hour period for each creative day, since the expression 'and there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a ____ day' is used for each day, excepting the seventh! indicating the seventh has yet to end.

  Why should I believe in the Bible?

  I've read up a bit on the science that disproves creationism. So far it's pretty convincing. I started reading at talkorigins. Do you have any other resources or places to look this stuff up?

  I also saw a thing on History Channel 2 about the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Essenes. These guys wrote to encourage themselves amidst Roman domination. That's what they wanted. A Messiah, a turning about for their luck. The restoration of the temple.

  The jews that came to believe in Jesus were no different. They looked for these things, and when the Messiah came and went, they brought their own unique concepts with them. As they say, and you so eloquently put it, the rest is history.

  In this context, you're right, there is no way I can prove any of these gods don't exist. I was just thinking that I think it's harderr to deal with bible god, because if you disprove an account such as the flood, then you can disprove his existence. Has this been done conclusively? I don't know.

  With the greek gods, its easy. It seems like a no-brainer to me. Everything adds up to myth.

  Well, as someone mentioned above, I don't think anyone actively believes in the Greek Gods. Unless there exists a neo-pagan movement. In any case, I believe that as long as one can either prove or disprove the Biblical accounts as literal, then one can either prove disprove the Christian God.

  I don't think there is an equivilancy.

  Should we attend our first Birthday Party?

  so we have only been fading for the past few months but already made up our minds that we are completely out.

  we never managed to make any friends in our cong but we befriended our neighbours.. so our neighbour invited us to her b-day party in a few weeks time.

  she knows that we are/were witnesses and that we are fading.. i don't see a b-day celebration as being wrong anymore.
