Black BUT Comely?
by Englishman in..in town earlier today, i was walking towards a black lady who gave me a dazzling smile as we passed each other.
she was a beautiful looking woman, and for some reason the old bible verse from song of solomon came into my mind: "i am black, but comely, o daughters of jerusalem, as the tents of kedar, as the curtains of solomon.
look not upon me, because i am black; because the sun hath etc.." .

The word has been translated as "but", "and", & "yet".
New American Standard Bible:
I am black but lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
Like the tents of Kedar,
Like the curtains of Solomon.
"Do not stare at me because I am swarthy,
For the sun has burned me.
My mother's sons were angry with me;
They made me caretaker of the vineyards,
But I have not taken care of my own vineyard. The Message:
I am weathered but still elegant,
oh, dear sisters in Jerusalem,
Weather--darkened like Kedar desert tents,
time-softened like Solomon's Temple hangings.
Don't look down on me because I'm dark,
darkened by the sun's harsh rays.
My brothers ridiculed me and sent me to work in the fields.
They made me care for the face of the earth,
but I had no time to care for my own face.Amplified Bible:
I am so black; but [you are] lovely and pleasant [the ladies assured her].
O you daughters of Jerusalem, [I am as dark] as the tents of [the Bedouin tribe]
Kedar, like the [beautiful] curtains of Solomon!
[Please] do not look at me, [she said, for] I am swarthy.
[I have worked out] in the sun and it has left its mark upon me.
My stepbrothers were angry with me, and they made me keeper of theYoung's Literal Translation:
Dark [am] I, and comely, daughters of Jerusalem, As tents
of Kedar, as curtains of Solomon.
Fear me not, because I [am] very dark, Because the sun hath
scorched me, The sons of my mother were angry with me, They made
me keeper of the vineyards, My vineyard -- my own -- I have not kept.Contemporary English Version:
Take me to your home.
We are happy for you!
And we praise your love
even more than wine.
Young women of Jerusalem,
it is only right
that you should adore him.
My skin is dark and beautiful,
like a tent in the desert
or like Solomon's curtains. The Young Women Speak:
She Speaks:
Don't stare at me
just because the sun
has darkened my skin.
My brothers were angry with me;
they made me work in the vineyard,
and so I neglected
my complexion.
Don't let the other shepherds
think badly of me.Geneva Bible:
Regard ye me not because I am blacke: for the sunne hath looked vpon mee.
The sonnes of my mother were angry against mee: they made me the keeper
of ye vines: but I kept not mine owne vine.Basic English Bible:
I am dark, but fair of form, O daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar,
as the curtains of Solomon.
Let not your eyes be turned on me, because I am dark, because I was looked
on by the sun; my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the
keeper of the vine-gardens; but my vine-garden I have not kept.New International Version:
Dark am I, yet lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
dark like the tents of Kedar,
like the tent curtains of Solomon.
Do not stare at me because I am dark,
because I am darkened by the sun.
My mother's sons were angry with me
and made me take care of the vineyards;
my own vineyard I have neglected. -

Do You Have Any: First Nations Connection/Aboriginal Peoples Connection
by RAYZORBLADE ini have been recently surprised on this forum to discover members who do have some affiliation or connection to their first nations/aboriginal heritage.. i live in canada, and my maternal grandmother's father was mi'kmaq (nova scotia).
my paternal grandfather's mother: mi'kmaq as well.. i think it's interesting, discovering all these wonderous connections to the places we come from.. for those not living in north america, where indigenous peoples reside ie: new zealand, australia, south africa and south american nations, have you discovered any family lineage leading you aboriginal peoples?.
just curious.

My father is African-American with Cherokee ancestry. My mother is Mescalero Apache and RarĂ¡muri. There was also injected into me some French, Spanish, Irish, etc...you know, just the usual *grin*
You know, way back before I was born, my mother was jailed for "race-mixing", but she didn't let that stop her from following her heart. She is stubborn that way, LoL. And I do respect her for that.
My grandmother passed down this story:
There was a white man with a badge who used to enjoy driving the Indians with a bull-whip if they were caught out after a certain time. Once, he was engaged in cursing and scattering the Indians with his whip, when a dark-skinned man on a horse appeared who without a word, shot the lawman dead, and then turned his horse and fled from whence he came, back into the mountains of Mexico.
There are other, happier stories-- but I am too tired to tell them now.

You Reap what you SOW??!!
by Netty ini am so bummed right now.
my sister, who is df'd, has so many medical conditions, she suffers alot.
she has recently been dignosed with fibromyalgia, and is in such extreme pain, she had to have cortisone injections into various trigger points into her neck and spine.

Wow, your sis is in pain and the only response your brother could come up with was to hit her below the belt.
I think the problem may be that, like the Grinch who stole Christmas, right now your brother's heart is two sizes too small. Fortunately, the condition is reversable. I hope that your brother will learn to grow a bigger heart very soon
Netty, I'm so sorry your sister had to hear such an unfeeling comment. I think that you two are probably going to have to do more leaning on each other, and less leaning on your brother.
Hang in there.

by ADubsFriend ini was reading the soul mate thread and wanted to ask: how many of you have truly loved and been in love with two people at the same time?.
i have been married 30 years to a wonderful man.

When your love is freeform, it will always be judged harshly.
But I think you already knew that, hey?
AdubsFriend, just be in every moment that you are, you will find your way.
A flower for you and one for your hubby, because I am sure that he feels lost, too

I am so drawn to him. I married at 17 and was so young. This is like the grown up love I missed. My God I love this man. I love my husband of 30 years, but this man....he touches my soul like no other.
Respectfully, sure you sure you are in love with two people? It sounds like you love your husband, but are in love with the other man.
