what was your misconceptions about the gb?
here was one of mine, when folks would ask me why wasn't their any blacks on the gb.
i would say that the blacks weren't educated enough at the time (late 1800's - early 1900's) to govern a worldwide organization.

Wow, Xjw_b12, you mean to say that TJ (Theodore Jaracz) and SP (aka Schroeder and Pierce) used to post here? I wish they still did, because they got a lot of 'splainin' to do!
Larry, I read somewhere that the GB members who "worked" on the NWT had no academic training in any of the bible languages at all, (with the exception of Fred Franz). How did they manage that one??

I believed the same as you, Larry:
The Governing Body = Highly educated scholars.
for those of us who grew up in the jw's, there were a couple of scary scenarios presented, one supposedly to happen before armageddon, and armageddon itself.. before armageddon, all jw's were going to be chased around by worldly nations because they would be the only religion left on earth, satan's system having destroyed "babylon the great" (all religions outside jw's, we were told).
so as part of that, jw's would be persecuted worldwide for being religious and proclaiming the "kingdom".. now -- connect that with the actual persecution that happened to the jw's as documented in the annual "yearbook" and in the pages of the watchtower magazine.
sometimes the details of what happened to jw's when in confinement were quite graphic and frightening.
In my child-time mind, at any moment the Nazi's could burst through the doors of the Kingdom Hall and spray the place with their tommy guns; snipers could pick us off as we parked our cars at the Convention. As the persecution intensified, the bodies would be stacked like cordwood.
Once, while out in service, a leaf fell from a tree onto Mom's forehead. Her hand flew up to her face and she screamed because she thought that a householder had shot her. The persecution had begun!
Strange little "practices", much akin to fire drills, occurred at odd times. These persecution pop quizzes always caught me off-guard and were extremely upsetting.

(ok, let`s start at the beginning).i was a witness for many years, so while i`m out shopping or working, i quiet often bump into pioneers and other witnesses who are out on their ministry.some-times we just say "hello" and go in our seperate way`s; but often we will stop and chat for ten minutes or so.some-times i have to-be almost rude to get away from some,especially the pioneer`s who set the hours meter running as soon as we start talking.i am never rude to the witnesses, i was a pioneer myself and always try to put myself in other peoples shoes[ the golden rule ].sometimes i meet the odd elder while in the town centre.
Watch the movie "Hairspray" sometime. There's a scene where the mother of one of the girls ventures into a black neighborhood to rescue her daughter, who is just hanging out with her friends. The mom gets so panicked, rushing to and fro, making a spectacle, that folks just ended up laughing at her. Don't end up like her, ok?It was a good story, though, and you're a very good storyteller-you got me giggling!

so this kid at my kids preschool apparently had a goldfish named peppe who died over the weekend.
for the past 4 days he has been telling my son repeatedly that the fish is in heaven where everyone goes when they die unless they are bad.
my son in turn has been questioning me on a daily basis about death and dying and the like.

Flower you are right. It is okay to admit to your child when you don't know the answer. I think it is better to say "I don't know" to my children than to make something up.
