THE FLOOD - What's Jehovah's problem now?
by sizemik inthis question has been bugging me for a while now .
since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .
.. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

How the WTBTS creates atheists
by Nickolas ini am an atheist.
i arrived at this juncture in my life despite not wanting to.
when i first met the witnesses at 22 i was a seeker looking for answers to the question of life - in other words, prime cult target material.

This is why they don't care about behaviour like shunning etc....if you arent giving them money. They couldn't care less if you believe in God or not. God has nothing to do with why the organisation exists. They couldn't care less about YOU or God. It's just about money and control.
If all they care about is the revenue stream from members, then why disfellowship people willy-nilly over a bunch of insignificant infractions? Most people who drink, have a one night stand, commit adultery, etc..are still willing contributors to the donation box. According to your logic, they are acting in a way that runs counter to their motive. The WT is not in it just for money. There are no fabulously wealthy GB members who live lavish lifestyles. They enjoy certain perks that their position of authority offers them, and they sure do lap up all the prestige and adoration showered upon them by their followers. But the objective is not to get rich. It's an end-times focused, apocalyptic, restorationist, hiearchial form of Christianity, hell bent on enforcing puritanical moral standards on its membership, because they sincerely believe that everything in the bible is the inspired word of God, and that God has appointed them to rule his church with an iron fist.

I too am dying to know! It's probably something crazy. They just brought up the "water canopy" idea again in today's WT. They're going old school, and that means they're gonna get increasingly whacko!

I could care less what Paul of Tarsus or some group of old guys in Jerusalem said about health prohibitions 2,000 years ago. Yet, even if I did, this biblical passage would not deter me from accepting a blood transfusion. The bible says to not eat/drink blood.
Is injecting blood intravaneously the same thing as eating it? They both amount to "consuming" it, I suppose. Yet, consider the following analogy often employed by the WT.
If a doctor told you to abstain from drinking alcohol, you wouldn't be complying if instead of drinking it, you started to run it through your veins. It ends up being the same thing.
Yet the above is a faulty analogy! Alcohol is a food, which enters your blood stream, is metabolized, and digested! Blood, when swallowed from a cup, will most likely be sent through your digestive system and into your stomach. Blood given intravaneously is not used by the body as food. It is not metabolized. It is assimilated and used as blood!
Eating blood showed a lack of respect for the sanctity of life. It was all about the symbolic value of blood. Drinking the blood of an animal or another human being showed a gross lack of respect for the life of that living creature, being that the life was "in the blood" and the life itself belonged to God.
On the other hand, using blood to PRESERVE life is something completely different. Denying yourself the life-saving use of blood amounts to a gross disrespect for life itself.

Bethel Apostates are the True Faithful and Discreet Slave
by doubtful inthere is absolutely nothing "discreet" about the old "governor's body".
they parade themselves around like celebrities, show up to give talks in foreign countries where they don't even speak the language, and plaster their pictures all over their magazines.
they also make more references to themselves than any sane group people in their right mind ever should.

Factfinder,
I think you may be right. I'm young, but even ten years ago or so I don't ever recall them inserting pictures of themselves in every freakin edition of the WT, or giving names. Perhaps we just notice it more now? Any others who were in before me have anything to say on the matter?

How much longer can the Watchtower survive in its current form???
by doubtful ini find it amazing that a religious movement predicting the end of the world for almost 150 years, still maintains a following!
soon, all the older zealots will be dead, the baby-boomer jws will be old and retired, and the bulk of the jw labor force will consist of all the "worldly music - listening", facebook using, living as close to the edge of wt standards as possible, youth of today.
as they mature, grow older and began to seek social status for themselves among other jws by pursuing appointments like ms and elder, they will probably morph into a replica of their parents.

Yet, how much longer can they continue to predict that the end is right around the corner? Is it sustainable? Can they continue to be an apocalyptic, doomsday, legalistic cult forever? Or do you think they will begin to transition toward a more mainstream Christian interpretation..such as "the Kingdom is in your heart, or it is in Heaven.."?
How much longer can the stalling continue? I can't see another 20 years of this nonsense, but then again, many of you probably said the same thing 20 or more years ago.
