holy sh!t Batman...get OVER yourselves.
hi all.
in your opinion, what was the silliest , most laughable watchtower teaching/doctrine, since its beginning until now???.
chukyy.
That the JWs are the ONLY Christians on the entire planet and Gawd only listens to THEIR prayers.
holy sh!t Batman...get OVER yourselves.
so yes, the brothers came for "encouragement" and of course, my husband is out of town on business... so it was me and the kids.. so i did let them in, i like these brothers...these are some things we discussed.... 1. i went over how that stupid "obey" email got all this started, got me to divulge to my girlfriend how i was feeling about the whole religion.
about how at the end of the call she said that she can't associate with me anymore, and then right after that call/ 30seconds later while i'm crying a pioneer called and asked "do you consider yourself one of jeh witnesses anymore??
" and i thought that was crazy for someone to try to trap me when i was sitting crying on the phone, upset with the last call... i told them that for all purposes i am already dfed since noone will talk to me anymore, and only one friend called to see what happened, everyone else just listened to the gossip of whatever spread, and wrote me off even though i'm technically in good standing.
You did good honey. I know the old sweating and shaking thing...part of that with me was just RAGE inside of me I had to contain. And faced with the ignorance of the men sitting there in my living room. They didnt know their own history..didnt WANT to know and werent interested in knowing. Toeing the line and spewing the company pat answers was all they were interested in doing.
And as soon as I left...I was out of sight out of mind...even after 13 years of being a WT slave.
Good on ya sistah!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080722/ap_on_en_tv/obit_getty rip sweet lady..... estelle getty of 'golden girls' dies at age 84 .
by bob thomas, associated press writer 4 minutes ago .
los angeles - estelle getty, the diminutive actress who spent 40 years struggling for success before landing a role of a lifetime in 1985 as the sarcastic octogenarian sophia on tv's "the golden girls," has died.
The ever present pocket book. And bottle bottom glasses...she was a peach! Bye Estelle!
i'm just wondering how many who are still "in" have stopped carrying an" advanced medical directive"( blood card)
My husband still carries his..he is "in" but his is like...at least 10 years old. I dont know if that is even a legally binding document any more.
does it ring a bell?.
it was taken by me from the stern magazine from germany issued on august 13th, 1961..... clue: i guess 47 years later she wouldn't attract any angels, would she?.
vivalavida.
I was a JW for 13 years and saw that pic often and thought the JW artists were incredibly talented. HA! Plagiarists!
This is the first time i have seen this comparison!
i look back and think of how mindless, boring and dumb it all was.
.
i think of having to sit at mind numbing meetings, bored to tears, making believe i was enjoying the fine spiritual banquet.. i think of how we used to drive around in "service" looking for nothing to do----just so that we could put our time in---hoping that no one was home.. everyone had to conform to direction and whims of elders or the society.. i am soooooooooo glad i'm out!.
preston you must have been in my hall LOL! see my post above

Did you guys ever see the old movie "The Time Machine" where a gong would go off and all the people in their white togas, would blindly stop what they were doing and walk without question up to the maw on the side of the mountain to a fate nobody returned from? Thats the witnesses. Do what you are told, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, do as they say or lose your family, be treated like you are dead, lose all your friends who themselves are terrified of being shunned and so will desert you. But in the meantime, tout that they are ALL "the friends" and that you are ALL a loving worldwide brotherhood, and preach that farce to the world to entice others into that maw in the side of the mountain. Fear retribution from this God you have created all the while saying he is a loving God while at the same time saying God punishes you if you dont obey and serve him because he is a jealous God...and keep walking into that maw. "And we're walking, we're walking...."
I had some fun in the JWs. I believed it at some point too. I was enthusiastic in service for awhile...but then when I found out the TRUTH about the truth, it was exactly like finding out that the father you thought was your father all your life...isnt. That the mother you thought was dead, actually deserted you. That the perfect husband you found who was supposed to be working for the CIA was actually leading a double life and had another whole family on the other coast. And no matter what GOOD times you had...they become a mockery. And you are a fool for falling for them. And all the people in your life you thought you could trust were lying to you and were lyed to themselves.
And so those good times...were never real.
The only difference between being a JW and the movie "Groundhog Day" is the Sonny and Cher music playing in the morning. Instead it was "FIRM and deTERMined in this time of the ennnnnnnnddddd"
Hey ...did you ever wonder why the JWs in Nazi concentration camps were denied food and clothing but were given pencil and paper to write Kingdom Melodies?
hey folks,.
just curious what your take would be on this.. i have a witness friend, who happens to be a radio announcer (dj) on a rock station ( yes i know, that is weird in and of itself).
anyway, he wants to leave the "truth" but family keeps him in.
Well its not just this sister that is playing a game here, he is continuing to encourage her to do so by NOT discouraging her to stop what she is doing. And some people like the attention. The "I still HAVE it!" rush they get when someone is hitting on them. Just because somebody has a crush on a celeb doesnt mean they are mate material. If he is trying to get out of the JWs, getting involved with another JW, whether she is "out" or not, is even more of a risk, as people have a tendency to return sometimes.
If he wants out of his marriage, he needs to do the honorable thing and let his wife go before he becomes a self fulfilling prophecy about "people who leave Jehovah to pursue worldly things like adultery"
Remember Danny Bonaduce from the Partridge Family?
my favorites are:.
"paradise earth": not in the bible.
"great crowd" of "other sheep" - two unrelated texts... put them together, and voila!, you just changed the destiny of millions!.
JWs are the only Christians
Vasectomies disqualify you for MS or elder
But...having children in this time of the END is irresponsible ??
Dating non witnesses because of point #1
Shunning
Not allowing people to do research on what they are taught by the WTS ala the Boreans
Not feeding the poor and hungry unless the poor and hungry are JWs.
Only helping JWs in catastrophic events
All of their predictions of the end of the world in spite of the fact that Jesus the SON is not privy to that information
Calling themselves Gods Mouthpiece
Pyramids being indicators of the end times (and measuring them in FEET when nobody used FEET when they were built)
607 vs 587
Birthdays are evil, anniversaries are good...when they are identical celebrations
Celebrating Christs birth is evil but celebrating his death is done with a cultish vengeance.
ugh...so many
because i was a born-in and raised in the wt, i was always told that we don't need holidays to tell us to give gifts to our children.
we give them gifts all year around.. did your parents ever make good on that promise?.
Gosh Wiz you are so thoughtful :) I always hated to HEAR and to SAY that catch phrase because I knew it wasnt true..it was what we told worldly people to appear to be on some equal ground with their gift giving at holidays. Nobody I knew as a JW for 13 years gave gifts to their kids. I mean yeah they would buy stuff for their kids but it wasnt gifts per se which are given as a surprise, arent ASKED for in the store, are wrapped and fun to receive...that is what a gift is in my head anyway. I never really got out of worldly mode as a JW and so would ache to give my kids presents on Christmas and on their birthdays because they are the most incredible gifts I have ever received myself....but god forbid we should give them undo attention when we should be serving some jealous god out there.
I DID give my kids gifts when I was a JW because I grew up knowing what that meant. Thank GOD I got out of the dubs when they were still little, 8, 5 and 2. And I am now guilty guilty guilty of spoiling them :) And they in turn love to surprise their friends with little thoughtful things.
They buy gifts all year long...and that turkey and company they have on Thanksgiving Day isnt really Thanksgiving because "they dont need a special day to give Thanks to God" either. LOL
