driving past others homes, knowing they are having a better time than me. Awwww Seeking...thats how I spent the 13 years as a JW...just tormented that the world was "going on without me" and I was miserable. I would watch people put up lights, and trees and see driveways full of cars where parties were happening, and watch couples shopping and it just ripped my heart out. Im sorry... :(

What is your family's favorite Christmas tradition?
by LovesDubs ini was a methodist for the first 30 years of my life, a jw in the middle 13 and then from 1997 have returned to my christmas roots, albeit with a different perspective about what "religion" means to me.
but christmas is a big package which to me extends beyond the birth of jesus.
ive had to re-start, and invent new, traditions for my kids and i as we are alone down here in florida most christmases, and all our relatives who are down here are jws.

I know its been a somber year for a lot of us, but the newsletter is about GOOD stuff!! No poopie heads invited! People always tell me they look forward to getting my "card" the most! :) That will come out like...end of Nov.

They do it quickly so you cant go talk to anybody before they can "cut you off". And particularly if congregations share a hall or they are close in proximity, they will announce it in other congregations. I had been in three different congregations, and it was announced that I DAd in all of them.

jesus denies being God! scriptural discussion.
by reniaa ini thought after recently reading the bible i would put up for disussion some recent scriptures up which for me show that jesus never viewed himself as god and anyone listening would also see it this way too.. first mark 10 :17-20.
17as jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him.
"good teacher," he asked, "what must i do to inherit eternal life?

I have never accepted the Trinity concept...not even as a Methodist. Why isnt it good enough that Jesus is GODS SON?? I think I could settle for that position.

We love to put our Christmas tree up the weekend of Thanksgiving and enjoy it until after New Years day. We dont have a fireplace, but I have a cute DVD that a fellow Floridian gave me that turns your TV into a crackling fire with a beautiful piano sound track playing Christmas classics. We try to go see the Miami Ballet perform the Nutcracker at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach (they make it SNOW in there!) We always go to Christmas Eve services, then go to a friend's home who always has an open house, and then have hot chocolate on Christmas Eve night and open one gift together before going to bed.
My youngest knows that Santa isnt real any more of course and he admitted to me that he faked it a few years longer for my sake :) ...but I still wait until the kids are all in bed before bringing out the presents to put under the tree. (usually my husband the JW makes himself scarce which is fine with me)
I love to sit there at midnight with only the lights from the tree on, in the quiet, with a glass of wine and my cats, and think about the year, think about my beautiful children and how blessed I am...and enjoy my own little Peace on Earth.
I know its a bit early, but Id love to hear what you all do :)

Im thinking he wont be doing that again because of the economy :) There is a man at the end of our street who, starting Nov 1, every year covers every surface of his house with strings of lights and his entire front yard with lighted moving figures. I mean EVERY square inch of the place. You could probably see it from the space station!
My energy bill went up $100 last month because I turned the air conditioner on upstairs in our new addition for the first time...I cant imagine what that kind of lightage for three months cost that guy. :)

US Presidential - race of minnows in pursuit of power
by core infirst - yes - i am in uk and have no vote and possibly no right to overly criticise.
be that as it may i must comment that the candidates available for the us voters do not stand out as world leaders, neither are kennedys, eisenhowers, or even nixons.
is this choice the best that the us has to offer itself ?

Kennedy was elected because he was a Catholic, had good hair and a pretty wife. He had NO morals at all. He was very young, had money too...not necessarily a race that you need experience in.

Meeting with Elders - but not about me
by BonaFide inso i agreed to meet with the elders to testify against someone.
this person is an elder, is married, but plays around and messes with sisters.
that's right, he is married.

I believe you....because I was 30 years old in the congregation and being GROPED by an old man every frickin time I came close to him. I think maybe he thought he was coming across as a grandpa figure but it was disturbing to me...particularly since I hardly knew the guy. Whenever he was behind me in the literature lines, he had his hands on my waist or was rubbing my shoulders or whatever it was and its really hard to get out of that situation when you are surrounded by people and dont want to "hurt his feelings"...but after about the third time I DID go to the elders (I mean its NOT a police matter) and even cited the scripture that says that a man should not be touching a woman, particularly if its not his WIFE. I have never been met with such contempt in my life. Here I was 30 years old, not baptized yet, attractive tall blonde telling these haughty elders that a long time JW is doing something wrong. They obviously believed I was some kind of Jezebel.
They did talk to him, I found out a long time later...and when he died of a heart attack two years later, his grand son told me that it was MY FAULT that he died because I humiliated him and he was never the same after that!
So yeah....grown women or not, its a difficult situation to deal with in that borg.

What holiday is your favorite?
by gaiagirl ini really enjoy halloween.
the air is crisper and cooler, a relief from the hot summer.
the season is a celebration of the harvest, as the earth has once more provided her bounty which the people store up to last through the winter until spring.. .

Christmas :) I even loved it when I was supposed to be HATING it. When nobody was around, I would as a JW crank the Christmas music in my car and sing at the top of my lungs. I love the lights I love the music I love the shopping...the food, the smells the colors, the gatherings. I do miss it being COLD now that Im in S. Fla. Its still weird to me to see lights on palm trees :)

Boring bookstudy book...which one was the worst?
by White Dove ini remember the old timers saying that the red babylon book was the hardest to understand.. in my memory, i'd have to say the isaiah books and daniel book were the most involved and boring.. the revelation book had gorgeous pictures in it (the writing was horribly boring), so i just looked at them, and i was 22 at the first study of it!.

After being out for 11-1/2 years I have blissfully forgotten all the books we read except the damn Revelation book since they insisted on doing that a bazillion times. Whoever wrote that drivel was in love with their own prose apparently. They actually expected us all to buy NEW ONES to start over again! What??? So Im sitting there in my OWN HOUSE in the book study in 1995 with my newborn on my lap listening to this crap being beaten to death all over again and had to stifle LAUGHTER into the baby's blanket at the rediculousness of their assertions and the very VERY serious way the book study conductor was covering this material ...again... What a FARCE.
