Maze . . . your choice of religious belief finds many opposers. But your taste in music is just fine . . . and that's alright by me.

How to identify a JW from a distance
by Bungi Bill inmuch has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.
- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.
rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

So seven JW's at 6 AM get three+ hours of recruiting in and probably talk to one person each, but that one person probably has spoken to them many times before. That's twenty-one unproductive hours right there.
I recall spending afternoons with a carload of fellow pioneers doing RV's. Two would do a door while four stayed in the car. We would get through about four or five visits (inc NH's) in an afternoon, with the traditional cofee break thrown in. Sometimes I would not even have one of my own RV's in the area to call on, so would "accompany" someone else on one, maybe two doors. Often it would involve a social call on someone's BS. 3-4 hours "witnessing" for piss-all. How easy it seemed to "fool ourselves" into thinking we were doing something meaningful.
It's a bit embarrasing now to see how obvious the "pioneer shuffle" appears to outside observers. It is indeed sad to see those still living the illusion.

I've invited the Witnesses to my house
by maksym inim recent here and thought i would properly introduce myself.
i have posted a few times but mostly i like to read because i gather good insight into reaching the hearts of jehovahs witnesses.
the short of it is i was born into a large family of jehovahs witnesses.

I would ask them are if they consider themselves a cult or whether the WTBTS practices mind control?
No disrespect to ABibleStudent . . . but if you ask the average JW that . . . you will get absolutely nowhere.
Similarly, Any suggestion that they believe in the WT and not the Bible, will be percieved as an attack on thier faith (which it is) and will put up the defenses.
You need to be more subtle than that if you truly wish to get through. You seem to be on the right track in your opening post. Hassans suggestions are valid and worth persuing. But even then, a high degree of discretion and subtlety is needed including a genuine enquiring manner. If this doesn't work, a more full "in the face" approach won't either. Most of the work will be done in their own mind after they leave.

Why do Witnesses think they preach the "Good News"
by sabastious inthe "good news" is a heavy buzz term that any witness will need no elaboration to understand unquestionably.
it seems illogical, to me, for the witnesses to call their message the "good news.".
i used to go door to door with a message of "whatever you are doing right now is wrong and will get you killed unless you preach door to door like me.

Such are the ways of mind-controlling indoctrination Sab . . . the bait must be presented . . . dripping with honey . . . before the hook is felt in the mouth. If anyone missed the thread about Norm Hovlund, it's worth a visit to his site. He has a great take (humerous and sarcastic as it may be) on the "Good News"

Reading the Gospels alone gave me a new understanding
I have enjoyed a similar experience since leaving the cult . . . but still remain unaffiliated to any denomination.
I wouldn't worry about them labelling their visits a Bible Study . . . just so long as they don't hijack the visits to get you into a "book"
Steve Hassan says talk about another group then relate it to them.
I would be inclined to follow your original idea of drawing on the features of another cult . . . scientology would serve well as it is well known . . . just highlight those features which are similar to JW's . . . shunning, information control etc., and talk about the implications and how unchristian they appear. Take your time with relating it back to the JW's however . . . they may feel attacked and close off . . . they should be able to see the similarities themselves if you concentrate on them . . . just stay on those key points and ask for thier opinions . . . even be content to let them leave without the comparison being directly made to them . . . it will get them thinking.
If you've made any headway you'll soon tell . . . they probably won't be back. But the seed will be planted . . . only God will make it grow.

What Did You Not Do Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness That You Wanted To Do?
by minimus ini didn't go to college and of course, "higher education" was never recommended.
still, i never felt terribly deprived because of not going further in my education.. yet, i did wish that i could've had "normal" aka "worldly friends".
i wish that as witnesses, we could've been better integrated with other people.
