Believers feel more threatened by Atheists than alternative religions. It's because Atheism doesn't question religion as such . . . it questions the "virtue" of faith without evidence, and exposes it's foolishness. And nobody likes to be seen as a fool.

[endif]just read bublegum's post and was going to post there but realised it would be off topic.. it got me thinking - as did some of the other atheist threads - why are religious people scared or atheists?

Lawyer tells of agonising scenes as doctors forced to let a Jehovah's Witness who wanted to live, die
by 3Mozzies inlawyer tells of agonising scenes as doctors forced to let a jehovah's witness who wanted to live, die.. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/lawyer-tells-of-agonising-scenes-as-doctors-forced-to-let-a-jehovahs-witness-who-wanted-to-live-die-7879674.html.
a lawyer who advised doctors that they must let a 22-year-old jehovah's witness die even though he wanted to live has spoken of the agonising scenes before the young man's death.. robert tobin, a partner in the london law firm kennedys, was called in by an unnamed nhs trust when the man, a jehovahs witness who was critically ill with sickle cell anaemia, refused a blood transfusion which could have saved his life.. over three weeks the man gradually deteriorated as the crisis progressed, before eventually dying.
medical staff were understandably upset at seeing a patient deteriorate before their eyes knowing a simple procedure could have been provided that would have saved his life, mr tobin said.. the mans mother, also a jehovahs witness, was at her sons bedside, and an elder from the mans church also attended.

After the Judge's death, as World War II was ending, and persecution against the Witnesses began declining, along with the attendant drop in news-media publicity, Hayden C. Covington told the author that Fred Franz saw the prohibition against blood transfusions as a way to accomplish two things: to continue to publicize the religion, and to create an uproar in the community. This reaction would convince the membership they were being "persecuted" and "suffering for righteousness sake," a sure sign they were "in the truth." - The Four Presidents of the Watchtower Society p.75 (C/- Randy's post here )
When the truth behind this lethal doctrine is realised, it becomes all the more tragic . . . and abhorrent. 67 years later and still they die.
There's a good case for invoking Godwins here.

Was the Verdict of the Candace Conti lawsuit a Win-Win for the WTS?
by rip van winkle inwhy did the wts not try to settle this lawsuit before going to trial as they had so many times previously?
was it presumptiousness on the part of the society's lawyers and gb?
had this been settled it would have hardly caused a whimper.. it got me to thinking that although the verdict of $28 million is unheard of, it may actually further the wts to make their claims that they are the only true religion.. reason being- if the monetary award is overturned then they will say it was jehovahs will.

This isn't going to win the WTS anything. A publicised connection with child-molestation has no positives at all, whatever happens.
The only positive spin will be swallowed by those who will swallow everything anyway.

Flipper Jr. & Flipper Sr. Leave Child Abuse News Releases at Kingdom Halls
by flipper inof course everyone knows about the news of the candace conti child abuse case which has gone viral , ( one would have to live in a cave, under a rock, or another planet not to know about it ).
that being said - it may very well be that those jehovah's witnesses who do not use the internet, or read newspapers, or in simple english are neanderthal's, still living in the 19th century or before , out of fear of negative reprisal from wt authorities may have not even heard about this case because they are in the habit of not watching the news or using the internet.. so- with those particular type of people in mind my son flipper jr. & myself decided to print up about 20 copies of the candace conti child abuse lawsuit from the england daily mail issue , here's the link : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2160605/candance-conti-molested-jehovahs-witnesses-member-age-nine-wins-28milion.html?ito=feeds-newsxml .. so what we did is since we are doing some out of town jobs in several counties we figured we'd leave these child abuse news releases under jw car windshields at kingdom halls while they are out in field service.
we left about 15 so far at 3 different kingdom halls under car windshields .

In all four cases, institutional loyalty blinded those in charge from doing the right thing.
And institutional power protected them from any consequences for their inaction.
Bullseye!

Absolutely no concern shown for the victim(s) . . . or the law.
Juries all over the land are gonna love that.
If I've read the mood correctly . . . WTS is really out of touch on this. They just can't hide their complicity and guilt from the whole world, like we're all mind-controlled JW's
Thanks for the post.

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn the guy as abusive . . . if he was an unbelieving mate, he would have been losing his wife and possibly his children to a dangerous cult. This can be very upsetting for some people.
