No doubt glad it's all over . . .
Wear your new status with pride.

No doubt glad it's all over . . .

i'm not sure how long it's been up, but jwfacts has written his own article discussing the sparlock debacle - and it's a great piece of work.. here is the link.... http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/blog/sparlock.php.
in the article he uses a fantastic quote from a 1994 awake!
magazine which reads as follows.... .
Cedars failed to PROVE the assertion of ANY official policy change . . . KS
. . . But to claim it's evidence of a "position shift" . . . KS
Not that clever really.
Actually, the OP claimed neither of these things in spite of the curious use of "quotation marks".
This illustrates perfectly that the material in the Society's publications is steadily becoming more extreme, with less and less room for flexibility in how principles are to be interpreted. . . . Cedars
That description is of a steady, graduated tightening of control . . . the idea of it being a "position shift" or "policy change" was introduced by YOU. And I see you already know what that's called . . .
Cedars, you'd do well to consider the calm, balanced and rational approach that is used by jwfact.org: they doesn't over-state the facts for the sake of dramatic effect, engage in straw-manning, hyperbole, etc.
If you want to play "spot the logical fallacy" . . . you've come to the right place.
Hassan is actually another cult leader. And you are in his cult.
I just want to warn people here that Hassan is f.o.s.
I guess that explains everything.
Once again I don't see any difference between JW's and the crazy practices of almost all religions. . . . scotoma
You make a very broad generalisation, and one that is quite clearly wrong anyway. The only commonality you have established is that almost all religions have "crazy practices". Why stop at religion? . . . there are plenty of non-religious institutions that also have "crazy practices" which could easily share the same commonality.
There seems little doubt that there are very profound differences between the practices and methods of various religions, that results in equally varied levels of "social influence", which in turn has equally varied levels of destructive outcomes.
General commonalities may well exist . . . but that is not the same as "no difference"
I'm surprised you're pushing this line.
...is the name of a video i will shortly be uploading to youtube.. but can you guess the identity of the person who coined this unusual phrase?!.
who will be the first jwn poster to guess his or her identity?!.
i can hardly cope with the suspense!!
I'll go with Tony Mk III as well . . . he's one of the thinkingest people I know
well.....i am now officially on the precipice of divorce.
it started last tuesday night.
my wife brings the kids home at 10:00 pm after the meeting....then dinner....then ice cream.
Your health is really at risk here . . . and you'll get nowhere if you don't protect it.
Added to that is the fact that you appear to have reached a point where no quarter will be given . . . and hard decisions will need to be made.
You need to assemble an appropriate support structure . . . a good and capable physician to monitor your health, and a lawyer first and foremost . . . and friends and family who can add moral support. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
it is essential that you recognize the differences between the pre-cult identity (before recruitement), the cult identity ( during membership ) , and the persons authentic self, which stays unchanged. EVEN people who are born into cults HAVE AN AUTHENTIC SELF that makes it possible to rescue people from cults many years, even decades after they join. When informed family and friends begin working as a team to educate their loved one about destructive influece, the cult identity and it's barriers will begin to crumble. "
These are very encouraging words for any new ex-JW, or those with family still trapped. It's reassuring that the authentic personality is not destroyed but dominated. The straightjacket analogy fits well. We are not changed essentially . . . just controlled.
I'm convinced that understanding this principle is absolutely vital, on both a personal level, and when reaching out to others.
From my own long-ago experience . . .
I only had disfellowshipping fully explained shortly before I was baptised. While I was studying I was encouraged to question, and could express my views freely. The authentic personality was still relatively free at that time. Many unanswered questions remained unanswered, but with the benefit of hindsight, their significance was simply cleverly eroded. I learned to be "patient." The cult personality is carefully constructed over time in almost imperceptible degrees. The order and level of control is finely tuned . . . and progressively harder to resist.
While the randomness of life may have taken me to different places . . . who knows where? I'm glad to know I'm still definitely me.
Good thread.
my husband confuses me.
he says that he is a jw, but very .
clearly enjoys the attention he gets from others on his birthday.
Welcome BackRow . . .
but him and his frat brothers f/undergrad just got back from Vegas last weekend (where they partied so hard he spent nearly $2,000 at bars and gambling trying to keep up with the likes of his doctor friends).
Yeah well . . . I hate to be a party pooper, but your hubbies an entrenched double-lifer. A true believer couldn't bend that guilt burden for too long before it broke. The thing is about double-lifers, is that they are deceivers. Every day is a lie . . . to either one side or the other.
The question you need to ask yourself is . . . how much of the truth do you think you're owed?
hi.. as a lurker ive watched this site for >2 years and agonized over whether to join-in or keep my anonymity.
now im trying to do both; join-in with specific posts; remain anonymous by keeping my personal details to myself.
i guess some will berate me for this.
Since the wts was built on the foundation stone of chronology – the equivalence of a doctrinal geological fault line, there are inevitable tremors.
Nice analogy . . . welcome!
i woke up this morning to find the following comment had been left on jwsurvey.org on my article entitled "watchtower's new 'toy story' - what parents need to know".
it read as follows.... .
my grandson, who is 3, was telling me magic is bad several times a day.
As Steve2 said, this example is called "moral panic".... Steve's a a clinical psychologist armed with a PhD: sounds like credible advice to me....
Really? . . . Steve's a clinical psychologist "armed" with a PhD?, well I never knew that LOL. I'm glad you were here to tell me . . . those things can be lethal.
(Aside from "moral panic", other acceptable answers that the judges would accept include: Chinese Fire Drill, Much Ado About Nuttin', Tempest in Teapot, Drama Queenery, plus many more).
So these "judges" . . . you and Steve (with the PhD), I presume?
All I draw out of the discussion is a range views and advice . . . some good (yes, including Steve's [we go back a while BTW]), some questionable. So question it . . . without kicking the table over. It's the self-appointed "judges" throwing all the labels and insults around on a thread they regard as "much ado about nothing" that sticks out as intriguing.
You're either very young or have unresolved issues of your own.
