So I Went back to my old Kingdom Hall Today...

...because it's now an art gallery.. it was really strange to have a look around the building and see what they have done with it.

a lot of the old kh features are still there.

they have kept the old platform, it gets used as a music venue on occasions.. i went up on the platform and faced the hall to bring back memories of the hundreds of times i stood there giving talks.. they have quite a few of the old chairs and the magazine/literature counter is still there but it has been moved beside the stage and painted.. all those huge windows have been restored and the place is full of light.. you can see a lot of pictures at their website, they have called it "the berwick watchtower".. the owner asked my wife and i if it was our first visit - hahaha.

Great looking building. I'm pleased it now has some community value.

That's about the only time you'd get me back in an old KH too . . . when the previous owners have departed.

Only in WT world does abandoning a child become not only justifiable ... but praiseworthy.

It kind of makes statements like "You are the love of my life" seem a very hollow claim.

I agree with Steve2 . . . choices are influenced sure, sometimes strongly. But Mum is still making her choice "without influence" (according to her own words), and immortalising it in writing. A bold choice that will probably haunt her future more than she can imagine.

How's the shaking going Steve?

i just opened our local paper to discover a half page add on the front page for jehovahs witnesses... more to be read on page 4 and 5 where there are two half page articles.

that must have cost them.. they are obviously trying to soothe the public into thinking that jws are harmless...let them into your homes.

Generally the standard of journalism is pretty low here in NZ. Fairfax's growing dominance hasn't (ahem) arrested the decline.

Let's just say the media here is very selective . . . they can swing/polarise public opinion ... and often do.

The systemic problems brought to light in OZ haven't been exposed here in the same way ... the public have been given other things to get upset and worry about. The JW's are almost invisible to the average person ... I still meet people who have never heard of them. The Destiny Church, a homegrown cult, gets 10x more exposure.

I'm not convinced this article presents such a great picture. To me, the article makes them appear very fringe, with a dodgy history, and a wacky fundie doctrine. The mugshots are a touch creepy ... they could have chosen better photos. The man-in-black advert is an odd way to soften your image lol. If I'd never heard of them ... I doubt this would have me eagerly awaiting there next visit ... probably more likely to just not bother answering the door.

Actually that article's a freak show on steroids. I don't know who the writer Clara Pratt is, but if you look closely she's done a bit of a hatchet job.

I mean the advertisement looks like Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith for a start.

Then the premise is that JW's are "scary" but it's only a myth . . . seriously? Aren't they just a pain in the arse?

And the two brothers . . . Brother "Come into the back room with me" ... and brother Roly Chester, child molester. Those dudes are damn creepy looking.

What about this gem in the first column ...

if you grow up speaking english and you move to mexico you don't automatically speak spanish, know customs, understand currency, possess skills.

for self-support or have any special insight into latino mindset.. .

since our move to wild's of pa many things have happen to my wife and i. our donut business went out the window.

we closed it last july.
