so my story, just like everyone elses that has left, is one of confusion , hurt, and lots of mixed emotions, .
i was raised a witness, and at the age of 20ish bent to pressure from the elders and got baptised, my heart was never in it, not even as a child, it was more jsut the motions of it, because thats what you were taught your whole life to do.
about a year after being baptised, i met a a young lady that opened my eyes, while she wasnt in my life long, (dont blame her, i had a lot to deal with , family, elders, etc) she was my saving grace, in the "truth" i was depressive, lonely, :( .

a jw knocked on my door this morning and she was with her young teenage son, who was dressed in tie, suit and shiny leather shoes.
she has been in the religion for 18 years.
we had a looong conversation and discussed many issues (briefly).
I've been out for a while, but I'm still pretty sure that the teaching regarding Jesus mediatorship is as you rightly stated . . . only for the 144000. You could easily prove that anyway from the CD . . . that this is in fact WT teaching.
After establishing that I'd ask her how she feels about that . . . that Jesus is NOT her mediator.
Then you might like to introduce a few scriptures of your own that prove he IS the mediator for ALL mankind. Acts 4:12 and 1 Tim 2:5 are a good start.
If you can stick to one point before you move on . . . you will avoid the mantle of "criticizer" . . . and plant that single doubt a little more deeply (it only takes one) . . . and she seems vulnerable on that point.
You made an excellent fist of things however . . . well done to you . . . even if she doesn't come back.
matt.27;51-53. behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two,.
from top to bottom, and the earth shook, and the rocks were split;.
the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints was.
Either way...the story was a made up fantasy...
More likely a natural event
Interestingly the super-volcano at Taupo, New Zealand erupted very expolsively at about this time and remains the largest eruption in the world over the last 5000 years
Material was ejected high into the atmosphere and carried around the globe (interestingly Mathew also reports the sky became dark) the seismic energy released from this explosion would also have been transmitted around the entire earths surface.
Pity there were only tax collectors and crystal ball gazers around . . . ie; no geologists
for those who may be interested in things geological .
just an update on seismic activity here in christchurch.
what's below is the seismometer drum for the last 24 hrs .
Here's a pleasant thought . . . last time the Taupo caldera erupted was around 2000 years ago (not long). I helped with some data gathering back in the 1970's
Evidence points to a pyroclastic flow about 5000 feet high travelling at 250 mph as it passed through Cambridge on it's way to the west coast.
If that place increases significantly in activity . . . book early . . . I'll pick you up from Sydney airport ha ha ha
this is one subject that really annoyed me when i was a jehovah's witness - and i find it still annoys me after being out 7 years from the jw's.
the title of this jw only wt study article is " have regard for those who are working hard among you ".
in my opinion there always seemed to be a double standard in which rank and file publishers were always told to be patient with elders shortcomings - however if rank and file publishers slipped up - elders would be into admonishing and disciplining them like flies attracted to dung with no delay.
@flipper
SIZEMIK- So elders wives tried to " lobby " you with their views to get you to bring it up to other elders ?
Not really . . . more like prepping . . . feeling me out for any sign of resistance, to report back with . . . politically savvy lot
@reds
One of the elders on her jc continuously asked her questions, very personal that made her feel as though he were living a sexual fantasy through her kind of like a peeping tom.
Heard of this happening more than once . . . a long time XJW friend of mine went before a JC as a 17 year old. One Elder asked; "So where exactly did she touch you . . . show me?" And then; "And how long did that last?" And here's the doozy; "And did you enjoy it?
Makes my skin crawl

I'll sit tight for now . . . I'd hate to miss something. Thanks all the same . . . I've been known to change my mind.
You can relax with regard to Aucklands volcanoes still thinking . . .
I'm no expert, but as far as I remember, the Auckland volcanic field while being "alive" has produced around 50 eruptions in 250,000 years (about 1 every 5000). Some are believed to have occurred simultaneously however so averages can be misleading.
The volcanoes are typically monogenetic . . . a fancy word meaning each eruption occurs only once. Molten magma rises as a 'bubble' assimilating the material above it until it breaks the surface. Eruptions, depending on their size may last from as little as a few months to several years and then become extinct.
Rangitoto was the last (about 600 years ago) and was equal in size to all the others put together. The next one (which will undoubtedly occur) may well be some time off and will likely occur at a "fresh" location.
With the modern monitoring equipment which is in place, rising magma will be detectible many months before erupting through the surface . . . you'll get plenty of warning . . . it just might be hard to sell your house.
If it happens . . . your welcome at my place . . . we can watch it on the telly together
when i was fully in, i never even heard of ray franz or his books.. after learning the truth about the truth, what woke me up, was in the first place the inconsistency of doctrine, the missing logic and the bending of the scripture to fit their theology.. personal experiences i took with a grain of salt.
therefore, even though i learned about "crisis of conscience" i did not bother reading it.
personally i did not doubt, that what he wrote would be true, but i thought, it would not help somebody to get out, because, its his personal experience, which proves nothing in the end.
The whole matter of his disfellowshipping sounded very similar to the trial of Jesus.
That's the very same impression I was left with . . . also Ray's honesty and humility shone through his account . . . as much a validation of it as the documentation IMO.
Glad you took the time to read (and recommend) it. It's a must read for any XJW as you say.
i just wanted to let you all know that i have had a major break through with my mom.. we have hashed everything out and she not only apologized for hurting us, but she also said she understands why we've made the decisions that we've made.. and best of all?
she is going to try to help us both get our kids back.. she had no idea of all the stuff going on with our ex spouses and she's very upset about it.. she said that she accepts where we are at in regard to the religion and although she does hope we might change our minds down the road, she just wants us to be happy.. at this point she still feels she needs to respect the disfellowshipping arrangement and i'm not pressuring her about that.
after all, rome wasn't built in a day and i would say major progress has been made here.. just wanted to let you guys know where things are at right now and a big thank you for all of your support, advice and care through this ordeal..
Just picked up your thread Julia . . . so pleased for you and the kids.
Like others have said . . . it's a step in the right direction . . . continue to let your reasonableness do the talking and more could follow . . . here's hoping
