  Are more long standing JW's leaving?

  at one time, it seemed that the majority of those leaving, were young ones brought up in the cult.. from what i can see now (at least on here), there seems to be a high number of 20+ baptised members years leaving.. has this always been the case?

  it might be i just didn't notice from my parochial view from the kingdom hall!.

  or are there really more long standing jw's leaving now, than ever before?.

  It is looking a little like the "finger in the dyke" overlapping generations doctrine is having some fallout. It has to take some time before the wake-up effect manifests itself. Judging by the intelligence and age (and service record) of some arriving at JWN (only representative of a higher number), the thinking ones (ie; inner circle) are having serious doubts.

  The harsh effects of shunning and the risks of being "outed" suggests to me there are big numbers inside the Borg who are simply not fooled anymore and just hanging in there. The flow could quickly move from a trickle to a flood.

  The "toes" bullshit was pretty desperate stuff . . . silly, purile stuff really. The GB are looking rudderless to me . . . but then where have they got left to go with "believable" doctrine . . . nowhere.

  They don't need long-standing members, they just need door-to-door salespeople and money in the contribution boxes.

  This is the bottom line . . . eventually they'll say to hell with keeping long serving people in . . . some fantastically appealing noo lite will eventually appear . . . to bolster the recruiting activity. A striking new doomsday prophecy is just around the corner . . . it's the only thing that works for them.

  Update on my daughter, Ali.... the saga continues

  ali had an appointment with her dr. yesterday.

  he won't let her return to her job, due to the long hours for her position.

  (45 hours minimum) and the physical lifting that her employer would require.

  Her x was never a jw.

  Suprising . . . he sounds like a perfect description of some JW's I knew. Prison or KH . . . not much difference, so he's where he belongs. Sounds like Ali's kids have a fantastic family without him in it.

  I keep telling her that she needs to write a book.

  Fantastic idea! . . . if she's used to working and being productive, and with so much to tell. Ali sounds like an inspirational person, and I for one would love to read her story one day.

  and uses a phone book, who even owns a phone book anymore?.

  i'm thinking way outside the box here.... i looked up my thread title before starting this thread and guess what??.

  no one appears to have ever considered this question before.... i've seen far, far, far too many people of european/british isles/african/american extraction defending this regional middle-eastern 'god', without realizing that their ancestors would never have willingly consented to give up their own deities to worship this interloper thrust upon them, usually at the point of a roman sword... or occasionally for trading advantages, as in the case of many of the heathen viking - norsemen.... so.

  what if the bible had never existed?.

  I take it that you don't believe in any sort of "divine" origins for the bible, then???

  Zid . . . that's the first time I've been asked to consider that question as an "absolute" . . . and to be honest . . . I'm not wholly convinced either way.

  I certainly do not see Genesis as an historical account of man's history . . . but then that may noy be it's divine purpose as many believe. Same goes for the Christian letters . . . I don't see them as an infallible blueprint for organised Christian worship. I am most convinced by the teachings attributed to Christ that something higher than human thought may be involved.

  I see a lot of human frailty in the qualities and actions attributed to the Hebrew God which don't sit well . . . and attribute that to the social and cultural influences present at the time. I guess I have a long way to go in my search for answers. It is something I do think about reasonably often however and I am conscious of my need to research more. Thanks for prompting the self appraisal.

  my earliest memories of the religion begin somewhere around the age of 4. i was at least three, because i recall leading the pack around the yard on an explore of some sort.

  it was a hot summer day.

  our small town was always quiet, and we saw few visitors at our home, for that matter even on our block, when i happened upon a large black four door sedan parked in the edge of our lawn as the streets in our town had no curbs and were narrow.

  Hi Jeff . . .

  I too enjoyed your introduction . . . and the constructive comments from the folks here. I have a strong desire to write also . . . a cathertic need to autobio some of life's experiences (not least the JW one), but I would love to write a work of fiction one day too. As another poster said, there is some good stuff on the net . . . even the occasional "free" writing course. I have recently espoused the wisdom of using the free-writing technique . . . as CoCo said . . . just write, write, write . . . and edit later. I'm a much better free-writer than editor but still very much at novice level for both.

  Perhaps we need to establish a "writers corner" here on JWN . . . maybe starting a new thread at the beginning of each month. It would be a good opportunity to present whatever work we are currently working on for some friendly critique. Also to share information we have discovered etc.

  revelation demands absolutes

  COMPLETE revelation demands absolutes. Both are idealistic or an ultimate, at least. PROGRESSIVE revelation demands an open mind. When you think you've got COMPLETE absolutes . . . the PROGRESSION stops and the mind closes up shop. The problem here is COMPLETE can only follow PROGRESSION. Too many suffer from "premature absolution"

  You think the book has that much power - think it is responsible for all that carnage. I don't think its responsible for all those things. I think people are responsible. So these things would have happened, in different ways and with different groups of people, anyway. Because of what is IN people, that causes them to act in such ways.

  That's about the most sensible thing to appear on this thread.

  The bible is as much a product of human society as human society is a product of the bible . . . little would be different without it.

  Transexual starts a study...what happens next??

  so my mother was telling me that a transexual, don't know if she's pre or post op (nobody does apparently), has started attending meetings and started a bible study.. she answers up in meetings and has been attending a few weeks.

  apparently she looks very much like a woman but has a distinctive masculine voice.

  i asked my mother what will happen?

  this man seems to get to the nub of most problems, and as a jewish man, i think he could be a way to a mainstream audience, it seems to me that despite all our petty differences we are all preaching to the converted, the majority of us hate the jw philosophy, how can we warn people of the terrible damage this cult can do to the individual and the community!.
