Why are Pantsuits not appropriate according to The Watchtower?
by VM44 inwhy do the jws consider pansuits worm by women not appropriate attire?.
pantsuits are considered appropriate attire in the conservative business world.. secretary of state hilary clinton wears pantsuits quite often.. would pantsuits be considered appropriate for a visit to bethel?
if someone showed up at bethel wearing them, would be be asked to leave?.

I'm surprised they don't dictate what kind of underwear should be warn while on tour.
If they insisted on a strip search . . . I purposely wouldn't wear any. I sometimes don't if it's hot.

The J Dub Culture of Skirt-Wearing
by mummatron inthis is something that has always bothered me.
as a born-in jw i was raised as a little girl wearing skirts and dresses which is clearly quite normal in terms of gender-appropriate clothing.
however, the older i grew, the more i realised that all jw women and girls wore skirts to meetings and when out in fs, but would wear trousers in their everyday life.

It does appear they just want women to know their place, such as,with the head covering.
That's my take too . . . it has little to do with modesty or gender ID . . . it's simply another an instrument for the subjugation of women . . . trousers are "men only" . . . and don't you forget it!
(A talk by a an Iraqi D.O. with a good sense of humour comes to mind on this subject. Others from Auckland N.Z. may recall him)
I recall him from CHCH NZ too bigmouth . . . nice guy actually . . . I believe he ditched the JW's not long after leaving the country?
still thinking . . .

I felt exactly as BP did when I read Randy's post . . . the last time I felt like that was when being spoken to by a CO.
Neither have I seen anything offensive or disrespectful in her posts
Like I said in a previous post . . . maybe it's a cultural thing flip . . . we just dont't fertilise our tall poppies down here quite so richly as you appear to in the US. Nor do we see tall poppies as above critique regardless of the great things they may have achieved. We're just a down-to earth people who balk when being told to "pay attention"
The adulation of personalities in hollywood style is one of the biggest jokes on the planet to a lot of Kiwi's and Aussies . . . that's just the way it is with us . . . like I said . . . maybe it's a cultural thing.
Talesin . . . very perceptive
I hope this helps us understand each other a little better.

The Internet: Viewed by the Governing Body and Former JW's.
by AllTimeJeff init's sort of funny how the internet has turned into the bugaboo of the governing body's existence.
imagine the nerve of people masquerading as ip addresses, with no congregation secretary to track back to!.
of course, "apostates/former jw's" have a view of the internet that sometimes isn't all to realistic either.

Good thread AllTimeJeff . . .
I tend to keep a more open mind as regards the internet. It's an ever-evolving thing rather than static entity. It's been interesting to see more instant public feedback in major mass media on issues of late. I think also the numbers investing in it are growing fast. Sure, it will always be a conduit for information chiefly . . . but it's future influence is not that easy to determine IMHO.
It's a great place for those brave JW's who WANT to think for themselves to start that journey toward freedom.
Nice comment . . . a huge number have benefitted . . . and you're right, it takes no small amount of courage . . . it's good to be reminded of that.

Saturday Morning Musings ...
by snowbird inone hot, hot thursday, in july of 1987, i worked a half day, drove from wilcox county to mobile county to pick up a sister, then hit i-10 for new orleans to attend the convention which began the next day.. the evening traffic was unbelievable; when i finally arrived and pulled into our hotel parking lot, i was shaking like a leaf in the wind.
we checked in, and after showering, i fell into bed and slept like a drunk person.. the next morning, friday, was a complete blur as we made our way to the superdome.
i don't remember anything that was discussed that day, just the searing heat as we returned to the hotel.. after a long shower, i again fell into a deep slumber.

Syl . . .
My convention experiences match your description so well it's depressing. Somehow the antcipation generated prior was never matched by the empty wasted feeling that followed.
Cheer up Syl . . . you don't have to remember the forgettable.

A few notes on September 15, 2011 Watchtower, fresh off the presses!
by sd-7 inseptember 15th, 2011 watchtower, page 28, paragraph 13:.
"if a human overseer in god's organization provides you with instructions that seem extremely detailed, you might at times feel frustrated.
jehovah, however, is a perfect overseer who delegates generously and trusts his servants.

I might live on a south pacific island . . . but I can muster up a campaign of one that would make a dozen proud.
Besides . . . I have an itch I want to scratch . . . and I need to go to a meeting to scratch it.
