  Religion and Politics have always coveted what the other has . . .

  The secular authority has ultimate executive and legislative power . . . jealously coveted by religious leaders.

  Religion has the golden hand which sees people throwing money, resources and approval at them willingly . . . the politicians have only the unpoular choice of taxation as their sole resource.

  Consequently they have been dancing a deadly waltz of capatalise and comprimise throughout mankinds history seeking any kind of advantage. When the two unfortunately fuse together, it has always produced the cruelest and bloodiest totalitarianism.

  Religion is a scourge on humanity . . . more deadly than Aids, Ebola, the Bubonic plague, Malaria, Cancer, Heart disease, the ten plagues of Egypt and anything-else-you-can-think-of disease, all rolled into one. We need a vaccine fast.

  And yes . . . I have already made a generous allowance for my weighty biases.

  I'm full of admiration for this woman . . .

  Right from the start, it was forcing changes on WT for the sake of other children in the future that motivated her . . . and she is now sailing that ship all the way home. $1,440.00 was all that was claimed . . . a token and symbolic amount only. A big lesson in integrity for WTS . . . if they were ever capable of learning it in their self-seeking bubble. She's handled it with extraordinary maturity, honesty and selflessness.

  i ask this question because, having been on this forum for a year now, it's clear to me that there are many shades to so-called "apostasy", and this is particularly evident in the realm of anti-watchtower activism.. when i use the word "activism", likely picketing kingdom halls and conventions springs to mind.

  however, activism can be far more subtle than that.

  just having a website or a book that sheds light on the flaws of watchtower dogma is really a form of activism - arguably the most effective form at that.

  does anyone know how jehovah's witness explain away acts 2:17 is:.

  acts 2:17 - in the last days, god says, i will pour out my spirit on all people.

  your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.. they admit we are living in the 'last days', yet they don't seem to have young men with visions or old men dreaming dreams (at least not inspired ones).. .

  A person who love's unconditionally has to include themself in the equation. They have to love themself enough to not allow another person's destructive actions to infect, control or destroy them.

  To "love your neighbour as yourself" is in itself a condition, strictly speaking. But your statement sums it up in easily understood terms. Unconditional love must be totally balanced to exist . . . and so is probably a rare thing in pure form.

  Where unconditional love exists, the relationship will take the path causing the least damage to either party, with none at all being the ideal.

  Exposing a JW to the definition of cults - good idea?

  first, i am not a jw and never was.

  i ran into an old friend who had been "baptized" who "encouraged" me to consider looking into the faith he had become a part of (born-in).

  i figured, "hey... maybe i'll learn something i've never known.

I can't believe he just said that though... this is ridiculous." Sizemlk, I can't even HEAR what he's saying because the conversations I'm having with myself are too loud! (and no, I am not schizophrenic)

  LOL . . . fair enough. And well described . . . I've been there.

  When talking doctrine, or WTS, or religion in general . . . you are always confronting the "cult" personality. The cult personality, as manufactured by the WTS, is well refined over many years, and largely impenetrable. With every cult member there exists a "genuine" personality hidden and suppressed . . . and it is on this level where success is most likely. If you can connect on this level (without having to bake cookies) . . . it may only need one well thought out question to stimulate the cognitive dissonance. Once you find that point . . . just never let it go. Make him find an answer to the dilemma without moving the subject on (nicely of course). Once he realises it's important to you . . . and constitutes an obstacle, he is at least unlikely to preach at you with such gusto. If he does . . . just keep bringing him back to it, until you get a satisfying answer* (* there isn't one). Each time you do the CD is stimulated, the cult personality is subverted, and the authentic personality is confronted.

  It's a strategy. How you manage it differs with each individual, is by no means easy, and comes with no guarantees of course.

  i moved to a new home about 6 months ago, so am no longer on a do not call list, but have not been contacted by jw's yet.

  i didn't even know which territory i am in.

  i asked again what congregation and he told me.

  Thanks for relating that Paul . . . these D2D encounters are always an interesting read.

  The last visit I received I got insulted as well . . . told I was "hard-hearted" because I didn't agree that regular Christian meetings were essential to personal faith. It's interesting how they feel free to do that on your own property.

  Like flipper, the depth of mental control stood out for me . . . they really do lack the ability to entertain a new thought for even a micro-second, esp. while out in the preaching work.
