I guess I just don't understand the issue. If you have family or close friends, you may not want to get DF or DA yourself. But why do you have to act crazy or put up some pretense? I just quit going and I get a phone call every 9 months from an elder and run into others now and then. I just tell them I have no more interest in it and I don't want to talk about it.

Has anyone else tried the crazy approach to fading
by will_the_apostate induring my fade i started acting more and more bizarre (not brushing my hair, clothes that did not match, sleeping during meetings, non-sequitur answers) and i found that it really helped because most of the rank and file just thought i was bat sh*t crazy, and the elders were kind of happy not to have to deal with me.
so has anyone done something similar?.

Misunderstood relativistic fears
by Dogpatch inmore than 10,000 people have died in the japanese tsunami and the survivors are cold and hungry.
but the media concentrate on nuclear radiation from which no-one has died - and is unlikely to.. modern reactors are better designed than those at fukushima - tomorrow's may be better stillnuclear radiation at very high levels is dangerous, but the scale of concern that it evokes is misplaced.
nuclear technology cures countless cancer patients every day - and a radiation dose given for radiotherapy in hospital is no different in principle to a similar dose received in the environment.. what of three mile island?

P.S. I agree that Greenpeace grossly inflated its number. I was just putting that out there to counter the argument that only 31 people lost their lives. Somewhere in between the two numbers lies the truth.
Also, I disagree about your sentiment that Wiki isn't a good place for info. It is a great place to start. Not everything is reliable there with so many posting with different agendas, but it is a good place to start.

Please let us know at the start of your post, if we are reading something YOU wrote or a news story.
I think the story's author has a vested interest in seeing nuclear power plants continue to be used. After all, that is his profession. Also, he states the number of people that died and can be directly attributed to Chernobyl. The WHO puts the number killed at about 4,000 while Greenpeace puts the number at 20,000. Also, there was a 4 square mile area where every tree died and turned brown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster#Residual_radioactivity_in_the_environment).
I think nuclear power is needed to get away from the Middle East influence, but this author seems to be understating the potential dangers.

I have a full beard and an earring. When I run into members of my old congregation, I think I freak them out. They act like they don't notice, though.

craziest reason elders wanted to have a commitee meeting with you
by glentrevette ini had a sister who was a tenant in my house and her car was leaking oil all over my newly paved driveway before she moved in i had a condition on the lease that said if her car leaked oil she couldnt park there and i told here after she moved in that she was being deceptive to me when she said her car didnt leak oil she was good friends with a lot of powerful elders in the hall and would you believe they asked to meet with me 3 elders in the back room of the library because they said i had called this sister a liar i got out of it only after i produced a copy of the lease and pictures of the oil mess if i hadnt of had pictures maybe i would of been dfd.

It wasn't the reason why I was called in back, but the way I was called in back. One elder, whom I tried to be friendly with for a year at this new congregation, never smiled or said "Hello" to me. Oh, well, you can't please everyone, The pisser was when I was asked to talk to him and another elder in the back room. I NEVER saw the guy so animated and lively and happy! For a year, this guy would never manage a smile or a friendly howdy-do, but when it came to potential discipline for me, this guy was alive and excited and happy and smiling. What a creep!
