I had to quit reading so much because the more I read, the more it proved how right I was. If I learned anymore I might acheive perfection and if I acheived perfection I might become a God, If I became a God, I would prove that I was wrong. It just wasn't worth the chance.

you have become the thing you hated.
by TheJigsUp ini was reading a thread on here the other day, and it occured to me.
the very thing i have claimed in the title.. reading you all bickering over a certain subject.
i assumed that some of you are only here to genuinely to create arguments, and i saw that some are genuinely lost and some of you dont believe they are lost but they are.. i saw you judging your fellow posters as if you knew something, but truth be told none of us do.

capitalism or communism.
i think none of them work.

Communism doesn't have a dog in the hunt. It's a myth that doesn't exist. A wonderful idea that's impossible to implement.
End of discussion on Communism.

Fox News - Science in the Bible?
by whereami in"if circumcision was such a good idea, why did gawd create man with a foreskin in the first place?
could it simply be that superstitious desert tribes in the middle east had this crazy idea that masturbation was somehow evil and that circumcision was merely intended to reduce the sexual pleasure"?.

You do get special underwear by being married in the temple, but also can get it if you aren't. That part is called receiving your endowments and is most often done the day before the wedding or before a Missionary goes on his Mission. You have to be over a certain age and deemed worthy. You have to have what is called a Temple Recommend to get in. It is renewed every few years and requires an interview with the Bishop and Stake President.
The first thing you have to do to be worthy is pay 10% of your income. It used to be a personal decision as to whether that was on your Gross or Net Income. At the end of every year they have a tithing settlement where you go in pretty much settle up with the church and get your tax information. It was only about 10 or fifteen years ago when they started saying you had to be a full tithe payer to get a recommend. They must have been low on cash.
So if you attend church regularly, don't cheat on your wife or husband, don't drink or smoke, and you are over the age of 18, you can get a recommend. Which means of course that a girl getting married in the temple, can't have her younger under 18 family members attend or anyone who doesn't have a recommend. I've sat in the lobby a few times with a room full of siblings. Anyone can go inside a new temple before it is dedicated.
The temples anymore are McTemples if you ask me. It used to be that they were pretty grand, but now they are just really big churches. I haven't been a Mormon for over ten years, so some of this might be dated. No I wasn't desfellowshiped. I threatened to sue if they didn't take me off their records. Thank heaven's there was the Internet with a bunch of people who had already paved the way.

It is kind of funny that some JW's as well as a lot of other religions, are so excited about all of the men, women and children God is going to kill. There is an element of " I guess that will show them".
People never really think about the reality of watching someone die. For all of the vilification I get for not believing in God, I have to say I have no desire to watch anyone get killed so I can be happy. April Fools day or not, it is just so strange to think of people happily going to Kingdom Halls and Churches and celebrating such things, without really thinking it through.

Studying JWs?
by bazackward inso i read this board quite often, but i don't post a lot since i'm not a jw or ex-jw.
i recently had an idea that i thought could be a lot of fun, but i wanted to get some opinions on it.. i'm going to school for my mba and in my business ethics & social responsibility class, i am required to do an "out of your comfort zone" project.
i'll paste the rules for the project below.

Wouldn't it be funny if you went as part of your assignment and ended up joining! I'm curious if you know of anyone in past years who did this assignment and joined some unusual religion as a result.

Is it just me or all the posts turning into books?
by wyorobert ini'll admit i enjoy reading the long posts of new members.. it does seem like everything is getting to the point where it takes the entire evening to read the posts.
has anyone else noticed this?
i will admit to being guilty in the past, but promise to edit in the future..

I came on late hoping for some lighter fare and just couldn't find anything that didn't end up being a book. It made me wonder if the site would be better to limit the number of words per response. Just a thought.

Are you suspicious of LURKERS?
by VampireDCLXV inwe all know they're here but we don't really know who they are.. they are people who sign up here and then never comment (or rarely ever do).. doesn't that make any of you regulars here at the very least a tiny bit suspicious?.
why would a person sign up to a forum like this and then never say a damn thing?
it seems to me that there is a primary reason why some folks sign up and then never comment on anything: to spy.

Great topic. Nobody cares about the haters, and who knows how many people are helped by this site. Most people don't participate because like all of these sites, they generally turn into clicks of a few dominant people and it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there. This can be a vicious forum. It is welcoming to new members, but generally condescending and judgemental once they start contributing. Even in the early days of AOL the chat rooms were like that, so it's just human nature I think.

Is it possible to define faith in a simple, logical, unambiguous way?
by losthobbit ini was wondering if it's actually possible to define what faith is in a simple, logical, unambiguous way.. .
i have a theory that words which cannot be defined in a simple, logical, unambiguous way do not really mean anything specific, and therefore should probably be avoided.. .
i know there have been books written on this subject, but i think that anyone who has to write an entire book to define a simple word like faith, does not really understand what it means.. .

The sun arguments escape me somehow. You can't guarantee 8 minutes of sun. It may have been distroyed seven minutes ago. You don't have to have faith it exist. It is known to exist. Just a thought.
