Ever been counciled for doing a craft??

coming from central pa - i get to see lots of quilts - and i have started to quilt myself - although i recieved lots of council about spending the long hours alone on a quilt ( the brother apparently never heard the words "quilting bee" ) i finally quit doing them for a while because of the pressure i was getting..... finnally when i realized that i needed to do some form of craft as a stress reducer ( from all the pressure from the borg) i told the elders where to go - and also said " i'd be happy to quit quilting - are you going to pay for the pyschiatri help and the meds they may prescribe??

this is therapy for me!!".

it shut him up for a bit.. .

I two sew lot and made many dresses and outfits - I also did some alterations to suits that the brothers bought at Goodwill...never was couciled for that..hummmmm I wonder if it had anything to do with the alterations to the suit and the dress I hemmed for the CO and his wife??? [8>]

I also enjoy doing Counted Cross-Stitch ( I'm working on the "Santa's Magic" design by Miribilla at the moment) but I have had to replace the DMC floss used on several occasions due to my daughters using it for the braceletts...

I did many quilts - I enjoy hand quilting them and designing them too....

And now I can work on some quilts that I always wanted to - like the Drunkards Path.....and Snowmen... things that I was conciled to stay away from ( I stil don't get what was wrong with the snowmen!! )
I love to decorate for theHolidays - and ceramic's have been added to the list of crafts.. as has Scrapbooking too!!

It will be a long time untl we see that occuring here in the US.. not to say it couldn't.. but I believe they will need to pass a few laws first for it to occur in all the states.

when leaving the Borg....

i know how very hard it is for us to leave a friend.. or let go of a loved one through death.

many here have been raised in the truff..... while others have only been either associated or were in a breif time.... so i have a question.. .

how long were you out before you were able to make a "worldly" friend??.

Did the teachings from the Borg keep you from trusting them??

How did you handle the shunning - and did you have people on the outside who helped??

I know how long it took me - about 5 minutes.. but I was not raised in the Borg...

My adopted sisters have taken much longer.. having been raised in - they seem to have more of a difficulty in stepping over this hurdle..

If you were raised in - were your parents strict in the practice of not allowing worldly friends?? or did they allow some??

If you were only in as an adult.. Did you have any children ?? and if so - how di they deal with the pressures put on them by the society??

I'm curious as to how others have dealt with this...

A new Use fo the Wt and Awake....

yes - i have found a new way to use them.. .

i let the kids tear them up, dump the peices into a blender - add water - and presto pulp - that we then screen and make scrap paper out of!!

- the dyes they use are great - and the colors you can get are fabulous - .

JWs & DF'd ones doing business together

i recall reading a wt article from the 1980s regarding how dfd and dad ones should be treated.

a portion of this article dealt with having business dealings with someone who is dfd.

if i remember correctly, the society encouraged the reader to, if possible, get out of any type of business partnership with someone who is dfd and not to have any business dealings with these ones.

Funny How the information about this is so elusive.. but so very simple.. Many of the Dubs in the area I was in had buisnesses that only hired the other brothers.. very few "worldly ones" worked for them.. It would be interesting to have some one who had not been hired to pursue this as many of those who apply for the jobs are better qualified than the brothers who got them...

The timewaster's guide to field service

last week, i posted evidence of the monumental inefficiency of the field service work.

you might be wondering how it is possible for people to put in so many hours, and produce so few results.

well, the answer is really quite simple.

Here is another "good accounting method"
On Saterday mornings - one has lots of garage sales or tag sales in our imeadiate area - many sisters will go out as early as 6:30 or 7am to start their "time counting" by going to the garage sales - then stop for the meeting - and resume th garage sales - because as they state it -"That is where the people are" They would leave a magazine on a table - inconspicuosly....and be able to count the time.
Then they would visit some surrounding areas on the days that the sales are popular there - stateing they are helping the other cong. - the best one I heard of happening frequently was the sister who would make a phone call to some one - phone witnessing - when she rose in the am - and start her time then! She'd then eat, shower, ress and head into the hall for meeting - counting the time all along!
She had a prearranged group she would meet - and after the meeting they would head for a flea market an hour away - to do the garage sale time as stated above - she never missed a week!!I don't recall her having any calls from those places - only when a new elder would question what territory they were working would one come up..[8>]

Funny how that worked!! [{:)]

I got an Invite to a DUB Wedding!!!!!!!

well,,,,, not really - but the letter came addressed to my husband - my name is listed on the inside card.

its for my x-husbands nephew.. i think i might go to the reception (and only the reception - i am not steping foot in a hall if i can help it!!!!

)- just to see the looks on the faces of those there - but more so for my nephew's sake.

I think I might go to the reception (and only the reception - I AM NOT steping foot in a HALL if I can help it!!!! )- just to see the looks on the faces of those there - but more so for my nephew's sake.
The nephew is a pioneer and his father is a MS. I still occasionally talk to the mother too -( I'm D'Ad) I'd like to see the family and join them in this celebration... but I aslo want to avoid the stupid questions that are bound to come up - "what Hall are you attending now??" and such.

Has anyone else been in a situation similar to this??

How did you handle it??

Any suggestions on how to handle the situation??

Gordon Brown's baby has died

very sad.

.

whether you like or dislike him as a politician you have to admit that he did look genuinely overjoyed and 'proud as punch' at the birth of his little girl unlike some who appeared to see such events as a photo opportunity.. sadly, she was quite premature and i've just heard on the news that she has died.
