Thanks so much everyone for your experiences with this illness. I am looking at all the links you all have given and find it very interesting.
I have always loved a challenge and boy is this one.........lol.
I am still working on the diet part which is so hard being that I love potatoes,,,,,,I can do without dessert, little debbies, that has never been my problem, I dont even love ice cream. But give me a spud, make it hashbrowns, FF, boiled, baked, even raw....lol, I love em.From tracking my sugar with the meter, Potatoes and even good cereal, like grape nuts do horrible things to my sugar. So I have to learn to let that go.
I am hopeful that with a low carb diet , that once I lose the weight I need to that I can eat a little taters and some bread on occassion.
I am starting soon at a health club with the kids and I am sure that will help , probably as much as diet will.
I fee so much better about this knowing that ya'll know people who took control of their illness and have lived a long full life.........thanks so much for that.

Anyone Diabetic To Answer A Question?
by Sunspot inis there anyone here that is diabetic that could answer something for me?
i am doing the finger sticking 4 times a day and have weird stuff happening.

Thanks Sunspot for the BTTT. I have been tracking my blood sugar for months with my monitor , the doctor did the blood work the first time and said I was so close to being diabetic tha t I should go on meds. A few months later a second blood work test confirmed that I do have diabetes type 2. My Dad had it at 35, and 8 out of 10 of his brothers and sisters also have developed it before they were 45. I have read so many books on this subject and have learned alot. I have learned by taking my blood sugar what I can eat and not eat. I just can not eat a healthy bowl of whole grain cereal.........my sugar goes to almost 300 and stays there for 3 hours. Oatmeal the same way. And I love potatoes, the irish side of me , I love bread and cereal too. I have a book , by Dr. Atkins for diabetics and it explains alot. So that is my plan,,,,,,,which is soooo hard because I am a carb addict, on eating low carb. I am learning to eat the good carbs and stay away from the evil white sugar. This is harder than it sounds, but I know my life and limbs , depend on it. I have to eat to live, not live to eat . Maybe I will lose some weight with this, giving up my precious bread and potatoes, better show some good results or I will freak! LOL

How has your 2007 been? A summary...

D. sounds like things can only get better right? What are you doing with cars,,,,what you and Gin did , or body work?
My 2007 was better than 2006, and you know why... but still very hard.
There hasnt been alot of fun for us this year. Denny has been working for long periods of time out of state,,,,,and so far away from home it is too hard for me to just hop in the car to go see him.
Amber moved in with her boyfriend right after school ended, she is 18 almost 19 now. I think in 2 weeks she will move back home , tired of playing housewife all grown up I guess.
We have been looking at houses to buy for a year and cant find what we want and can't decide where we should live Bossier or here . Kids do not want to live on grandparents land because it is soooooo boring . I do understand that.
Life is just kind of crappy right now with Denny being gone so much. It is so hard to be the only parent home. It is so hard not to be with the one you love your best friend every single day.
We are seriously talking about when he goes to the next big city, going with him.....Jake and his girlfriend who lives with us,,,,,,also are going. Jake will train to do dents with his dad. This all sounds great and it can be done.....we have done it before.
I think it is what I need, because I am bored with this sitting at home, I am ready to travel and let the kids see some more of the world other than here. And D. you know how retarded it is here........lol. We loved Denver and I hope it hails there .
So it has been a slow and boring year, and hoping that the winter and spring will bring us some new adventures. Or maybe I will win the powerball!

Would You Condone Giving Birth Control To 11 Year Olds???
by minimus inin portland maine, all you have to do is see the nurse and you can get birth control pills.
we're not talking about high school.
we're talking abot middle school!

I agree with Flying high,,,,,,,, it could be dangerous for the girls on birth control pills, there are many warnings of side effects. I know 3 young ladies on the pill and the depo shot, they are all 17 and over 18, you should see what it does to their emotions. I think at 11 to 13 , is such a hard age for young girls , changing for a little girl to a woman. My daughter is 14 and I am very protective of her. Pretty much most of the time I know where she is.......I try very hard to know what she is doing, where she is going etc. I still do not let her run the roads with who ever. However,,,,,,, I found ways to do what I wanted to but I was 17 or so. I hope that by asking all the questions of where she is going, etc, keeping interested in her life, her friends, being involved, talking openinly about sex, will help her not get into it for sometime to come.......I just hope.
I can not imagine the school giving these young girls the pill, when emotions and hormones are not yet really regulated. What if the child/girl has some kind emotional problems? could the pill , the drastic unnatural state of hormones cause her to become seriously depressed? I know it can work the other way too and help with some female issues and be a better benefit than before but I think Mom or Dad should be watching for side effects if they allow a child to be on the Pill. How can they know to watch for signs if the school doesnt let them know what the child is taking?
And to think that some girls got suspended from school for having a Midol in her purse? I just think that was overboard and I really think that giving out birth control to 11 to 13 year old is overboard as well.
I think I would go with 15 and older for the pill, but also condoms should be giving at the same time with the package of pills, just so they know that the two go together and not just the use of The pill , to be safe they go together.

(((((((((((((Leslie))))))))))))) That was a great post.........excellent in the way you wrote it , I really could feel what you were saying , and I feel angry for you, and I want to shoot that man that did that to you!!!
When things like this happen ,and you feel there is no real justice, you can just hope for karma to catch 'em on the way out. I am sure he will pay for what he has done to you and the kids,,,,you just might now ever know about it. I am sure he will pay with one day realizing what a piece of crap he was to ya'll.
When I was a little girl, there were things that happened to me , that made me as a Mother so afraid for my kids, especially my daughter. From the time she was old enough to walk, I taught her ( and my boys) to never, never be a victim. In fact her first name means " female warrior", and she has lived up to that. There is no one that meses with that girl...lol. She is mouthy, sassy and stands up for herself in all walks of her life.
Some of her female cousins have made very bad choices with their boyfriends and my daughter is at only 14, seeing that , that is not the road to take. She says she would not put up with that kind of treatment. I hope she stays that course and if she doesnt, then I will be there to help her remember the kind of girl she has always been.
Thru it all Purp, you raised a strong daughter, and good men,,,,,,,that is alot to be proud of. Love ya girl, hugsssss Dede

It is really good to hear that there are people out there that live into their 80's with diabetes. In my family no one made it to 70 and I just feel like right now is the beginning of my life in so many ways that I don't want to be sick for the rest of it.
I am reading every book I can on this and getting lots of good info.
It is hard to balance the ration of food , when I love bread so much.....lol, I can give up cigarettes, even beer, I don't care for drugs or pot, but my addiction has always been food. Now I know that the wrong foods are my enemy andI have to to do things alot different if I want to have a good life.
Thanks for the encouragement,,,,,,,,,hugs dede

I was just wondering if any of ya'll have this condition and what do you do to control it. My doctor has me on Metformin 500 mg twice a day and I have heard about supplements and diet to help too.Just any feed back on this would be a help.
I really need to get healthy , so any ideas on getting healthy in general will be encouraging.

What going, going, gone said.......about getting shivers down your spine when you think of what you might have done , in a year from now is so true.
When I fianlly learned how to deal with the lows of my horrible downs,,,,,I just kept saying to myself ......"this too shall pass",,over and over .
Now when I feel those coming on and I have finally for the most part learned my warning signs of deep depression, I get to the meds right away, and hold on until they start to work.
