  has the org's comment on the candace conti case been removed from jw.org?

  if not, can someone give me a clue how to retrieve it please?

  This is a great line:

  J. R. Brown, a spokesman at the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses, commented: “The fact that Jehovah’s Witnesses abhor child abuse and strive to protect children from such acts is well-known. The individual members of any organization must ultimately bear the responsibility for their own actions, particularly when the acts are so flagrantly against the morals and principles of the organization and society.”

  This does fall in line with past thinking from the Watchtower, its individual members that thought the end would come in 1975 and they should bear the responsibility on their own!

  Now for the flip side. By this reasoning the Catholic Church should get a free pass too since child abuse is against the morals and principles of the Church. We all know that only the Watchtower gets a free pass though and all other organizations will be held to account for what their members do.

  no I will not attend. Last year I was finally mentally freed from thinking I should go to the memorial. This is my second year out!

  There is nothing wrong per se with this article.

  Its the way its written that makes it so annoying. Why is everything dumbed down to a childs level?

  Fact, cell phone usage in a group setting is f***ing annoying. Not sure why they needed a whole biblical article on it.

  Truly mind numbing.

  * do not blame yourself it is the child that jehovah blames - parents do not care whose fault it is they just want their child not to be killed by god.

  * it is ok for parents to hope their df'd child returns - was anybody really asking if that was wrong?.

  It helped me understand again why JW's can't bring themselves to fault the Watchtower (an organization they identify with) while they can point out the exact same problem is other religions. We in fact all do this, for example in a political context when we identify with a political party or specific politician.

  In some ways this makes you feel not so smart. We are actually just dumb creatures that go about our life on limited programing looking for predicatble trends that we can repeate over and over again to make ourselves feel better. Ugh where is the inteligent design in that? more research needed I guess.

  And on the other hand I think it helps to be more objective with the world. If you can stop for just one moment and catch yourself and notice the bias that your brain is telling you to exhibit because it made you feel better in the past, perhaps you can adjust and actually be a better person.

  how do you deal with the anger when your parents stop talking to you?

  my partner says i should continue to confront them but it builds so much anger in me and i sometimes i think i should just let it go and bring balance back to my own life.

  it's sort of sureal to mourn your parents while they are still alive.

  The gay issue is part of it. But for my parents that is not their issue. My sister is not gay and they have continually walked in and out of her life.. In an especially hyporcitical move they shunned my sister for several years after she got divorced even though both of them have been divorced.

  I would say what makes me more angry is they have no ability to reason things out or be objective. Sometimes I wonder how I ever came from them. Both my sister and I grew up in a cult and overall I think we have been successful in life.

  Today it came to me they are like addicts. Addicted to religion like its a drug. Just like a drug, there are ways to safely use religion to better your life (if you are predisposed to believing in god etc). To much though has very serious side affects. My parents have overused religion for years in ways even their peers have not. There are so many ways to look at it that is just one of mine.

  I feel better about it today atleast. Everyone here always has great insight on how to deal with issues.

  00Dad, yes it does help to read about how others deal with this. All the points made here are true and I know that. The last thing I want is to end up consumed by anger over this so it feels like just pulling back is the answer. Just not the answer I wanted.

  I did a search on Toxic Parents and found an old article on NYTimes. The most interesting quote in it was this:

  "Likewise, the assumption that parents are predisposed to love their children unconditionally and protect them from harm is not universally true."

  I have been operating under the assumption that my parents still have some love for me somewhere that if reached would be the solution. Love conquers all type of mentality. That appears to not be the case. That love is so buried at this point its been sufocated. Realizing this is the hard punch in the gut.

  Send this to my mom. She requested I stop sending her "this garbage". She then justified the Watchtower because look at Penn State. Where were the police there. I responded, Penn State does not claim to represent God.
