on whtv upn 18 (channel 5) they aired the commercial put out by the congregation of jehovah's witnesses (12:38 am on monday night).
it is only airing in the north east us.. a brother who saw the commercial last friday said it was really nicely done.
it talks about family life and plays the kingdom songs in the background.. a telephone call to the society confirmed it was a trial, and it was a bonafide jw advertisement.. .

Maybe they are on to something. Sell the KH's, rent a few large auditoriums for bi-annual faith meetings, etc. Drop the door to door, use telemarketing more, and encourage the R & F to watch from the comfort of their media rooms, encourage greater donations. Just might work.
I might even tune in. When I am really bored with what is on the tube, there is always something to laugh your @#$ off on TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network.)

i went to a district assembly in omaha back in the 1970's and got roped into doing street witnessing wearing one of those sandwich boards.
i felt like a complete idiot, but was talked into it by a jw girl i liked at the time.
anyway, i was wondering if anyone else here ever did this.
Last weekend was going through some of the 5000 plus slides my father took over the past 50 years. A good percentage were of assemblies -travel to and from.
Ran across several of me, my brother and sister doing this kind of work in Lansing, MI and other cities where C.A. assemblies were held back in the early 60's. I do have a memory of getting cornered by a rather large frightening lady on the street, but all she wanted me to do was stand still so she could "read me".
It was fun when you were 5 or 6 - as a teen I think I would have feigned a stomach ache.

IF this is the Woodland Park hall in Colorado - I know some folks that attend there. They also recently remodeled the KH - perhaps ran a bit short on funds????
Whether the people I know would be willing to comment on this topic is another story.
Off topic - Woodland Park I believe is where those escaped inmates from Oklahoma holed up for awhile masquerading as bible studying fundies.

july 1966: my best friend (ken) and i had known each other since 1956, when i was 5 and he was four.
we did everything together, play cars and toy armies, cowboys and indians, trick-or-treating, movies, swimming, disneyland, sleep-overs, boy scouts, camping, long talks, sneaking cirgaettes, getting caught, and we even had a few fist fights and yelling matches.
but we were more than friends, we were as close as brothers.

It seems to be a natural thing as we get more mature (hate to use the word old or aging lol) friends from the past, experiences and memories become very important. We feel the need to express appreciation for little things that we may have taken for granted at the time.
I too look forward to reuniting in person with the man who as "best man" at our wedding, and one of the nicest people on the planet. He is flying up from So. CAL for turkey day with us. Can't wait.
