In fact the more I think about it the more it becomes a bad advert for a god.
I have often said I thought the bible might actually be written by Satan
What if Satan was the benevolent creator and the bible was written to discredit him?
is there anything in the bible that makes you believe that some or all the writings in the bible are inspired from god?.

i remember my dear old dad (r.i.p) saying that when he had questions he waited on jehovah(tm) and got the answer later.. for the life of me i can't recall this ever happening to me......... honestly, can anyone actually recall a question that the wbt$ jehovah(tm) cleared up for you?.
Maybe finding your way out of the Borg was your answer?
Seriously, looking back my DFing was the best thing that ever happend to me. I'm not sure I would have ever woken up if that didn't happen.
I had an argument with my roommate over whether or not it was ever written in the literature that JWs shouldn't go to college.
I called bethel, it wasn't and I was wrong. This would have been in the late 80s early 90s, not sure if they have finally put it in writing.
segway:
I remember they had an article that said it might be ok to go to college because it was getting harder and harder to make a living. Then at the next assemly they announced that it didn't apply in our area because there were so many high paying low skill jobs in the area. (The best I saw was $12 a hour with no chance of ever getting a raise)
This was the same assembly where they announced you shouldn't wear your baseball cap backwards.
it took the better part of 15 years but i believe we have finally arrived at that point where there is now a critical mass of former witnesses.. thousands of exjws come together on forums like this one and discuss findings, ideas and research.
there have been documentaries and even a movie made about life in the jehovah's witnesses.. ex jw websites, online forums, and discussion boards that set the wheels in motion in the early to late 90s have matured into powerful tools of social change within the organization.. the lies and false doctines taught by the watchtower bible & tract society are plainly accessible with just a cursory google search.. active elders leak boe letters, often weeks before they hit the notice board in a kingdom hall.. social media has allowed exjws to connect with those still in as well as those who have left.. the society have no game plan because information is power and they have lost the information war.
all they can do is cry wolf and warn the rank and file not to listen to apostates.. i don't know what future the society will face in the next ten years, but changing world events, social trends, and reactionary change from headquarters based on their own faulty biblical chronology has got them cornered like a raging animal.. it doesn't look good..
I have noticed that anything a JW posts online will quickly be met with a reply from one or more ex-JWs

That you can use it to prove just about any belief you want seems rather impressive.
just wondering if anyone here has compared the prices of the wt approved hotels with the same hotel on hotwire, hotels dot com or some other such site?.
i know my dad used to call the hotel and use his mastercard perks to get a better rate than the wt was offering.
this was well before the internet age.

i am in awe of the level of intelligence, wit and funnybones that alot of you posess.. which made me wonder, did you have a mild superpower while you were in?
for instance was it giving talks, commenting, research?
maybe it was pissing people off (a much underated skill).
I think mine was being able to sit through entire meetings and assemblies without listening to a word. I never knew how boring those meetings were till I got DFed and had nothing to do but listen. Although that may be why I stayed around as long as I did.

seat saving: when the doors to the facility are opened each morning, please to not rush to the seating area of your preference as if competing with fellow attenders.
a self-sacrificing spirit that moves us to seek the good of others identifies us as true christians and moves onlookers to praise god.. ................................................................ i personally don't recall them previously making reference to the jw-version of the "running of the bulls" that takes place every morning when the doors open at 8:00 a.m. have seen it myself many times, it's always good for a laugh.
I always went by myself on the bus
Arguably you could have saved around 100 seats, one for each person in your vehicle.
Seriously though what are the best seats? I always remember sitting in the upper section with all my friends.
If I remember correctly each friend would save a section of seats for all of us then when we found each other we sould decide which one to choose.
I still miss those cheese danish and think back misty eyed remembering the rock hard peaches in the bags for fruit. And all for only 7 tickets.

How would it be possible that there wasn't one person at a meeting qualified to read the WT even by their "high" standards?
That speaks volumes.
where does the need to worship god come from?.
this is a question that i asked myself repeatedly when i used to believe that god exists.
i struggled with this because i have never had the urge, and i imagined myself an ingrate because of it.
Well I had the worst cold this week and if I wasn't aware of germs I'm not sure I wouldn't consider it some sort of demon possession. And if I did then I would have certainly made a sacrifice or two to a benevolent deity.
folks are about as happy as they decide to be.. looking on the bright side of life gives you more of a foothold when things go awry.
nurturing hope builds a foundation for you which enables you to save for tomorrow and build toward the future and hang on when things get tough.. people dig their own graves when they become pessimists.
"why bother" replaces "that's worth a try!".
Very good analogy,
That's why you don't run ahead of the light that is supposed to be leading the way for you.
Hey why can't I see where I'm going?
