I gave a talk once where I pointed out, based on my research in the literature, how nonsensical Nostradamus' predictions were. Nothing like the time, times half a time, a day for a year timeline from the bible.

Time, times and half a time - nerd time
by Anony Mous inso, the famous 607 calculation to 1914 involves the above prophecy.
the common explanation is that time is one unit, times is an unsubstantiated number of units.. to prove you can make it say any date, we must write it as a formula:.
date = t + nt + 0.5t where n >= 2. so simplified:.

Dumb Elders
by minimus ini knew a few pretty intelligent elders .
sometimes i would wonder why they remained as elders or even witnesses because they were successful men who made a good living and were highly respected because of their qualities.. that is a rather small group.
most elders that i know of aren’t the brightest bulbs in the sky.

I'm going to say not to my recollection.
The intelligence level seemed to be commensurate with the area they were in. Low income areas had less educated elders than the elders from educated areas.
I do wonder about one elder that i knew that was literally a rocket scientist. I suspect he just liked the culture but didn't necessarily believe it. And he seemed like the type that could entertain himself during the meetings while still looking like he was paying attention. In reality if you are married how hard is it to stay out of trouble as a JW.

Do Jehovah`s Witnesses believe the 1,000 reign of Christ Jesus began in 1914 ?
by smiddy3 inif not ,why do they claim he took up his power to reign as king in 1914 ?
do they claim that ?
or is it that he has only returned awaiting for god to give the throne to him.?.

AFAIK the 1k reign is the 1k yrs after the big A
Why the big gap in years
Well because that's what happens when you try to predict the future

Jehovah`s witnesses not the only religion GOD is using now ?
by smiddy3 inwhen confronted with angus stewart’s blunt question “do you see yourselves as jehovah god’s spokespeople on earth?” the answer that came from jackson’s lips was astounding.. “that i think would seem to be quite presumptuous to say that we are the only spokesperson that god is using.
the scriptures clearly show that someone can act in harmony with god’s spirit in giving comfort and help in the congregations, but if i could just clarify a little, going back to matthew 24, clearly, jesus said that in the last days ‐ and jehovah’s witnesses believe these are the last days ‐ there would be a slave, a group of persons who would have responsibility to care for the spiritual food.
so inthat respect, we view ourselves as trying to fulfill that role.”.

It seems to me that he is saying yes in a round about way.
He ends by saying "we view ourselves as trying to fulfill that role."
I see it more of a "I know it must sound crazy but...."

We Knew Many JWs That Weren’t Right....what about xjws??
by minimus indo you think that when people leave the religion that they are basically now, “normal”?
or do you think it’s more a work in progress?.
-

What makes it hard to say is that most people don't become JWs because life is great. So how many of them were normal when they joined or had normal parents if they were born in.

Who's he kidding!?
by Lost in the fog ini had to read this paragraph twice in case i'd misread it the first time.
who is he trying to kid!?
mr gomez says, "there's very little rules, if any, most of our conduct is governed by principles, and there's a lot of room for us to make personal choices.

Diogenesister
The movie (office space) is worth a watch. It does a good job of making fun of absurd corporate practices, at least in the US.
Flair is something you do to make yourself stand out, like the reddit flair. In this case it was the buttons.
The clip just made me think how the JWs say they have very few rules but seem to have an awful lot of non-negotiable "suggestions".

He's probably not lying, he believes it.
This is how the non-rules work.

Collapse of JW Org - Possibly on the Horizon?
by JWTom inthis topics get a great deal of discussion here.
what i find interesting is even some of my pimi family is embracing the reality that all is not well with jw.org and that many current jws are just going through the motions due to not having a good way out of the org.
wondering what could realistically lead to the collapse of jw.org in the not distant future?

The new generation explanation is so stupid it makes me wonder if someone isn't trying to wind things down without causing mass suicides within the ranks.

The most thrilled topic but why dont people reply with facts/ figures
by Ardian inthe watchtower and awake have been listed as the most popular magazines.the figures are astonishing.
i am not sure whether it is based on reality or not.. source: https://tingtopten.com/2020/01/top-10-most-popular-magazines-in-the-world/.
i have seen the link on many social media networks.

Where to start
That site seems amateur at best. I'd be surprised if it wasn't being run by a JW. If not the site then at least that post.
Probably one of the JWs that preys on other JWs. Open a site, post a couple pro-jw stories, post link on social media, make money on advertising.
Either way it is typical JW slippery speak that is hard to refute because it isn't and outright lie. It is easy to be number one when you define the criteria.
What was the criteria for judging the popularity?
But, we have compiled a list of top 10 most popular magazines of 2020 is based on their circulation and popularity.
Obviously written by someone skilled in circular reasoning. However they are clearly not skilled in writing.
Comparing the WT and Awake to a commercial magazine is a bit of a stretch. It's like comparing a matchbox car to it's real life counterpart.
Does folding the pages in half and stapling them make something a magazine?
Calling it a magazine is another one of the JW slippery terms. Even if it is technically a magazine calling it one is deceptive.
Find another "magazine" that is written on 100% news print.
The only ones I can think of are those advertising ones near the exit to supermarkets and restaurant. I know I have never thought of those as magazines.Circulation:
They have a forced circulation of 8 million right off the bat.
Minus that from the total and what have you got? Considering that it is published world wide makes whatver it is even less impressive.
Even if it is still more than other "magazines" what is the value of that circulation? It certainly isn't turning into a lot more recruits.
From their perspective it probably means that whoever took the WT or Awake has accepted the license agreement to join or be killed at the big A.

Observations loosely based on this week's WT.
by Jofi_Wofo ini struggled mightily to stay awake for today's zoom meeting.
at least we have it on saturday morning, so i don't have to dread it for the rest of my lovely weekend.. i suppose you could summarize today's lesson as such- "the annointed are annointed because they say they are annointed, and the annointed are special because god says they are special, and we know that god says what we say god says because we say god says that what we say god says is what god says.".
lord helmet: everybody got that?!.

I disagree with one point, that "none of them claim to be the Christ"
While they don't outright clam that they are Jesus, they have clearly attributed many of the things said about Jesus to themselves. And it is clear that Jesus is of little importance in their religion.
One example, Jesus said No one comes to the Father except through Me.
JWs say the exact same thing about themselves.
