i truly wonder if this move opens the door to the practical end of the "preaching work".
they could move everything to the internet, get rid of yearly statistics and pretend that things are growing.

Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.
by stuckinamovement ini have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.
in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.
even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

You hit the nail on the head. As much as I appreciate SIAMS statement of the situation it is WAY too self-angrandizing and convoluted. Elders are just "busy". The women hold organizations together. Women are more social and all organizations give women a place to socialize. If you look around you will see more women than men at the hall.
Men are just noise in the machinery. You have to keep them busy and away from the women so that women are able to do the real work. The women in the oranization are the primary workers. They are the most effective at the door. They make the most intelligent comments at the meetings. And they probably put more hours into helping other members in a personal way than the elders. The women prepare their little parts on the meeting better than the men and make their parts more interesting. Women are capable of working for the intrinsic rewards. Men need the praise of others - mostly women.
The men that leave are usually the more creative capable ones who no longer feel like doing the SOS over and over. The dumb, conventional men stay in because their little positions are challenging to their limited abilities.
JW's are not too different from any male dominated organization. Angry men and the women who love them.

Timing of "thinner magazines" announcement
by sir82 inthe announcement of the reduced number of pages in the watchtower & awake will be made after the watchtower study following the "special talk" on april 8.. theoretically, that's when there will be more visitors and "outsiders" than usual.
even the talk itself has 1/2 of its content directed at inactive jws.. obviously this reduction in pages has been in the works for several weeks if not months.
why pick that date to announce it?

Does anyone else think there is less and less JW and religious content on this site each year?
by yadda yadda 2 ini may be wrong but it seems that with each passing year the number of real jw and religious related threads gets less and less on this site..

You will find even less religious discussion among active JW's. JW's just don't discuss religious stuff. They discuss organization crap and that's it.
Try and start a meaningful religious conversation after a meeting or out in field service.
Religion is a substitute for science and philosophy for the average IQ or brain dead.
This site is no different. No, actually it's slightly better.

I am an atheist. How could the "Almighty" prove he is really All - Mighty. The assumption is that as humans we could witness an act and determine that it was carried out by someone with infinite power. There may be smarter and stronger entitities or collectives of intelligent etities that are more powerful and intelligent than humans and might even pose as God. But that still falls short of the definition of a Supreme, being.

The Catholic More Righteous Than Almost Any Witness

he exposed his own church, his own "organization".
he exposed documents and testimony about how his church covered up child molesting priests throughout ireland.. he went to a school, to remind himself of what an 8 year old boy looked like - because he was aware of one nasty case involving a boy of that age.. when he was talking, he paused..... because he held back tears.. if you are still a "loyal" witness, i have two things to tell you.

The Watchtower is always warning its members not to harbor "fear of men". Unless, of course it's their "elders".
If it weren't for "fear of men" the Watchtower couldn't hold its organization together.

" this is where you never reach the identity creation phase due to another's (usually your parents) beliefs being forcefully imposed upon you.. this is a very interesting article from a psychologist's point of view.
his example is a highly religious person.

Foreclosed Identities is a useless concept because that subject has been dealt with for ages. We are all born with certain dimensional traits/temperament. The reason there is a psychological industry is that everyone is maladapted. Religion is just one of the causes of maladaptation. This is why the statement is repeated so often "Know thyself".
There is your real self and then there is your persona or the character you create as a tool to get on with life. The greater the incongruence the greater the disturbances that manifest themselves in all sorts of conflicts.

Why am I so special?
by Wayward Son inif we are to accept that intelligence plays no part in wether or not we become duped into a cult, then the same rule must apply to those who wake up and make an exit.. so why am i so special?
i had basically the same experiences as my family and i am the only one out.
i don't claim to be some towering intelect, but even if i were it shouldn't matter.

Inherited temperament. Same reason why some kids born to alcoholic parents become alcoholics while another child in the same environment avoids that pitfall.
If you are high on the psychological trait called "openness to experience" (google it) you will eventually question everything. If you are low on that trait you probably will be afraid of the discomfort of change. This quality is mildly correlated with intelligence. In fact if you are too intelligent you may dig a deep intellectual hole of "belief" and become a fanatic.
This is why it's silly to condemn people for their choices. Contrary to religous teaching our choices really aren't "free". Our inheirted disposition trumps most environmental effects.
That's why its so important to "know thyself".
