  i've followed ufo stories for some years now and this barrage of authoritative people looks unprecedented.

  couple that with the claim that ufo sightings have increased enormously in the past couple years and...... who knows?.

  how could they let such an important component of their prophecies vanish.. .

  growing up in the 50's and 60's i fully believed the watchtowers scheme for interpreting daniel.. and it was quite believable back then.

  I don't believe the Bible is God's word because I think that God is by definition is an impossibility.

  The point I want to make is that it is obvious the Watchtower isn't being guided by some almighty all knowing God.

  Their understanding of prophecy shows all the characteristics of an ad hoc human explanation bound by dogma based on their previous assertions.

  Their path becomes brighter only because it is a path of their own making. It's like a poorly designed traffic circle that ends up causing more accidents than the normal four-way stop.

  Cedars: I failed to notice the mixed identity of the successor to Rome.

  The questions of the successor to Rome would have been easier if JW's weren't looking at things from a western bias.

  So what if Britain was a Roman colony. It was basically anti-rome. The belief that there would be a third Rome is a theme that has been used quite a bit. The Russians have a strong tradition even today of a claim to being the third Rome. Even though the Western Roman empire collapsed that wasn't the end of the Roman empire. Constantine set up New Rome which was later called Constantinople. The Russians believe that Moscow is the Third Rome - C-zar, Romanoff family, the double headed eagle which the Russian olympic contestants proudly displayed. The double headed eagle goes back to Byzantium and represents the Roman empire facing East and West.

  Also, if Russia was recognized as the extension of the Roman empire they would have a perfect explanation for the iron mixed with clay. Russia's biggest problem has been the over 100 nationalities that make up its population. Putin is given credit for stopping the disintegration of Russia. First it broke up into the CIS countries. Next it started breaking up into smaller nations like Chechnya. The Chechens ought to be able to claim independence just like Georgia and Ukraine. Putin leveled Grozny the capital of Chechnya. It was a city of about 700,000 people. So Russia still has some of the Iron like characteristics to hold the clay/iron together.

  It would then be easy to make Daniel and Revelation parallel. The seventh head of the beast would be Russia. Russia (Soviet Union) appeared slaughtered to death. Has Russia's death blow been healed? It looks like Putin is in the process of doing just that. Then Babylon the Great would easily be the United States which has hegemony as the dominant power in the world. It's a lot easier to understand Babylon the Great as the richest entity with its shameless luxury floating the worlds economy.

  Oh, well. Apparently their God has other interpretations he wants fed to his domestics.

  Growing up in the 50's and 60's I fully believed the Watchtower’s scheme for interpreting Daniel.
  And it was quite believable back then. The Soviet Union was given the role of King of the North
  and the USA was the king of the South. It was a perfect fit and it was one of the most convincing
  arguments that the Watchtower got it right. What could be north of the Soviet Union. The
  Soviet Union was located at latitudes much further to the north than the USA. And amazingly
  these rival nations were armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons - enough to blow each other up
  and the entire world. They appeared to be the formula for the eschaton..
  
  On top of that they didn’t even pretend to like each other. The post war period was a game of
  pushing and shoving. Nato and the Warsaw pact were always target practicing on each other.
  There was no need to guess whether each had weapons of mass destruction. Each side carried a
  box with the buttons of retaliation. It was only a matter of time before someone pressed the
  button.
  
  Then in the late 1980's Gorbachev appeared on the scene and Russia and the United States quit
  threatening each other. Immediately, the Watchtower backed away from the idea that the Soviet
  Union was the King of the North. It appears that they were spooked too often with mistaken
  predictions so they quickly changed their position on the King of the North. At first they said
  they didn’t know who the NEW King of the North would be. Finally, they focused on the United
  Nations and it’s future attack on Religion. At this time you find wide speculation among JW’s
  about the NEW king of the north. Iran, Iraq, China, North Korea even Islam was suspected of
  taking on this crucial role.
  
  If only they would have stuck to their old interpretation they wouldn’t be in this current
  quandary. Has the relationship between Russia and the USA really changed significantly? Has
  the USA quit pushing Russia? Has Russia and the USA really dismantled their weapons? They
  may have retargeted some weapons. They may have “decommissioned” some of their weapons.
  They may have moved some weapons off of their launchers. But should we think for a second
  that either side has made the world safer?
  
  Currently, the US is pushing Russia with new missile installations in former Warsaw pact lands.
  Last November, then President Medvedev made the following declaration:
  
  “First, I am instructing the Defense Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning
  radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert. Second, protective cover of Russia’s strategic
  nuclear weapons, will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop our air
  and space defenses. Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic
  Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defense penetration systems
  and new highly-effective warheads. Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up
  measures for disabling missile defense system data and guidance systems if need be… Fifth, if
  the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive
  weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of
  the US missile defense system, in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander
  missiles in Kaliningrad Region”

  today? No one even remembers them. ...
  
  So why didn’t the Watchtower stick with a good thing? They had a great interpretation working
  for them. Don't they know that everything old is new again?

  In their opening premise the Watchtower says "

  THE prophecies of Daniel and John correspond

  in ways that allow us to understand the meaning

  of many present and future world events.

  What gets me is they are looking for agreement between Daniel and Revelation but then they make it impossible for a parallel connection through their interpretation. Basically they are suggesting that if a pair of events is similar in their descriptive wording and dramatic roles, similar in action, similar in sequence and similar in results we should probably think of the events as the same event.

  Let's work our way backwards from the Great Tribulation. Chronologically according to the book of Daniel the final rivalry on Earth before the Great Tribulation, is the pushing that goes on between the King of The North & The King of The South. There is also a final pre-tribulation rivalry that takes center stage in the book of Revelation. The final rivalry in Revelation is between the Wild Beast and The Harlot. The Harlot has the oppressive role of sitting or riding the Wild Beast. The Watchtower has erroneously interpreted this rivalry as the conflict between the United Nations and World Empire of False Religion . The Watchtower interpretation presents us with two entirely different struggles going on at the same time. Why wouldn't such an event as the destruction of all false religion be found in Daniel. And why wouldn't the pushing & shoving of the two political entitities, King of the North and the King of the South, be mentioned in Revelation. Both are dealing with the "end" and the events leading up to the end and you would expect some parallelism if you claim that the one book explains the other.

  They say that the King of the South is the 7th head of the wild beast. So where is the King of the North in Revelation. Something is mixed up. The Watchtower ignores this point and says they don't know who the King of the North will be.

  JWs "Encourage" Their Youth To Invest In The Full Time Ministry And Not Go To College so....

  if that's the case, ideally, we should all be preachers and never college students or college grads.

  but here's the problem for those that adhere to that viewpoint: jw's should not sponsor anyone that has gone to college.

  if you support such ones, it should be conscientously objectionable.

  I've never seen anyone come into the organization and tear up their University Diploma. I don't see people coming into the organization quitting their profession and take up janitorial work, window washing, carpet laying, car striping.

  Could UFO Disclosure Bring About A Golden Age?

  there are a great many people - and internet sites- that preach a sort of 2012/ufo gospel.

  while they may contradict one another, they mostly teach that ufo's will intervene and save us, especially if governments admit that they exist.. yeah, ok..... been there, heard that..... but could there be a core of truth to this idea?.

  what would happen if the world acknowledged that et's exist?.

  Technology and peacefulness.

  We overate the technology we have. We won't progress much further than we are now if we don't learn the value of creativity and cooperation.

  Big technology involves the coordination of very diverse human resources.

  Replay the scene of central control after Curiosity made a successful landing on Mars. Lot of joy and hugging. They didn't beat another team. They didn't win a war with dead strewn around. They put their curiosity to work.

  If a society gets to the point where they can solve energy problems they can do away with the basic cause of war.
