We were ready to enter the promised land (new world) in 1975. We weren't ready so we have been marching around in the wilderness.
2015 will mark 40 years of wandering around. The generation of mis-leaders will all be dead by then.

Did Yahweh command child sacrifice at one time?
by srd inalthough there is no explicit commandment or stipulation that ordains child sacrifice in the bible, there are nonetheless numerous passages that discuss it as if it was being practiced.
this post lays the query out.

Jehovah said that it never entered his mind that the Israelites should sacrifice their children as they were doing in Hinnom.
Yet, it did enter his mind to test Abraham.
Today however, the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses teach that parents ought to let their children die a type of sacrifical death in case they need a blood transfusion.
They claim that even though blood transfusions weren't practiced in the Apostle's day Jehovah knew that transfusions would become a practice and therefore expected Christians to have to undergo trial on this issue in the modern world.
I don't believe in God or the Devil but if there were both a God and a Devil score one for the Devil. I can't think of anything that would be more blasphemous than to have parents sacrifice their children. What a reproach on God to have people bearing his name carry on a practice from which Jehovah mercifully spared Abraham.
Jehovah's Witnesses actually follow through on the sacrifice of their children without even the benefit of some special "Abrahamic Covenant" afterward. Jehovah made an exceptional oath to Abraham actually swearing to it because he knew that he put Abraham, as a parent, through the ultimate test.

Future NooLight: Let's get prophesying
by Sapphy ini've been thinking about how the governing body now say they are the faithful and discrete slave, and trying to think about how this will play out.. as i understand it, the 15th july wt now says that the fds is identified with the governing body since 1971, and before that with a small group of anointed brothers taking the lead at watchtower hq since 1919.. of course they can't come out and say that the fds before 1971 was the wt board of directors because for a few years in the late 1940s hayden covington was both on the board of directors, and he was vice pres of the wt society too.
hayden covington was not anointed and never claimed to be.
he was 'other sheep' through and through.. .

What we have now is the first governing body member who was baptized just before armageddon in 1975.
I'm sure Sanderson was baptized in 1975 but did the world end in 1975?
It must have ended in 1975 since the organization is spirit directed.
Wait a minute. 1975 marked the generation that will never pass away. That's right. We were prepared and ready to march into the New World in 1975. But we will have been following the "cloud" (ambiguous teachings) in the wilderness for 40 years in 2015. That's when the end will come.
Witnesses really do live in a "parallel" universe. Everything is parallel. As I understand it - parallel lines come together at infinity.

Parakeet,
I have to correct your perception of legal action.
Human governments have tried to build a civil society.
There is a difference between vengence and justice.
Vengeance is an emotionally based reaction to wrongs that have been committed.
Vengeance can damage innocent people in the process and is subject to making mistakes in targeting the real perpetrator.
Civil society handles things in a sysematic, methodical manner and is less error prone than emotionally fueled vengeance.
That's why terrorism is ineffective in the long run. Vengeance is often taken out on innocent people who are not directly involved.
Because JW's live in a world of bizzarro justice adminstered by window washers and carpet layers they don't understand what real justice means.

Appealing to a government authority to make a judgement about law is not the same as participating in the political affairs of the world.
Voting for a candidate or making oneself a candidate for political office is a different dimension.
When you vote for someone you are engaging in the appointment of a proxy ruler to represent you.
When you go to court you are requesting consideration in your particular instance. You are not "ruling" the court you are pleading for justice.
No doubt the Society rules hypocritically over its members. But that is another situation altogether. You don't have to be irreprehensible to appeal your case. Even criminals have rights. Murderers can request leniency.
It IS strange to see the Watchtower appealing for "alternative service". That calls into question the divine guidance they were receiving until the mid 1990's.

Do David Splanes offensive and pompous orations have a silver lining?
by ranmac inim starting to think so.. i was still somewhat active in meeting and assembly attendance when i first started doubting the jw life.
when i first heard splane give a discourse, it was a real wake up call as to what kind of people are controling this organization.
the next time i heard him speak he was even worse.. as ive seen on this forum, many people have had the same experience.. in slimboyfats thread, http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/251890/1/british-zone-visit-from-david-splane-a-report-from-the-special-meeting-in-glasgow, he noted this gem from splane: if traumatic things have happened in your past then just don't think about it, that's the best you can do until the new system.. this is one of the most irresponsible and rage inducing comments i have ever heard.

I would rather have a robust authoritarian like Rutheford running things. I am old enough to have talked to many old timers and I never met one who acutally liked Rutheford, some hated him. But they all remained in the organization.
Splane is a weak and feeble wimp who got into power by default. These are the worst kind. They are slimy and don't really know what to do with power. They are in power so they think they must simulate power. Think CALIGULA! Read about it on Wiki.
I don't know the exact section of one of Ray Franz's books where the governing body is sitting around discussing something and one of them said "Well, what does the society say about this?" And it was a serious comment. They never thought that THEY were at that moment the "Society".
Just say NO to Yes Men.

I don't get it ... 80% of people in Oklahoma DON'T have a Tornado Shelter. Are they nuts ????
by RubaDub ini really don't understand.
how can any homeowner in his right mind, not have a tornado shelter ???
i understand that some people live in apartments and condos, but someone with any size yard (even a driveway) could have a shelter.. to me it's a no-brainer.

Heathen:
People get the things they want and demand. If those gun-totin 2nd Amendment zealots took Tornado Survival seriously they could get the government to provide distributed shelter locations.

Who cares about tornado shelters as long as you have your gun?
