the last time i spoke with my mom was the middle of october.
i called her that time.. many of you are familiar with the relationship problems ive had with my parents since i quit going to meetings almost a year ago.
for those of you who arent familiar with the situation, you can do a search by clicking on the paper icon under my name to read up on whats been going on.. anyway things were getting worse and worse and nothing good was coming from our discussions or letters.. since i was the one who called her last, i decided to see how long it would take for my parents to get a hold of me the next time.. my mom even told me in the past that she wanted to limit her association with me.
::::::::::I have found in my experience that when it comes to money Jehovahs Witnesses are often very calculated.
That's because they are generally much poorer than normal people. Thanx to "putting the selling of Watchtower books first". However although they are canny about inheritences - I think it's their intuition about how the shunning looks to others that makes them pretend in front of the rellies. Basically the lie.

i was wondering about all the hype on genes being passed on through generations for instance say your parents are agressive,violent,alcholics, manic deppresion sufferers etc and now your waiting for it "jehovahs witnesses" could this also be passed on to there kids you through the genes and if so will my kid wanna be a jw "oh no", i reckon this genetic thing is frightening sob sob !!!!!!!!
p.s just remember most jws come from existing parents i think you know like the mormons haha!!!

Genetic predisposition doesn't automatically condemn a person to a particular disease. Environment and lifestyle factors can make one more vulnerable. Don't listen to crazy relatives or feast the mind on religious drivel masquarading as Bible aides. At the first sign of WT symptoms, get life time inoculation @ Freeminds Inc. et al to avoid full scale onset. The untreated disease can last for fourty years or more before symptoms abate. Death can be a blessed release. As is always advised with genetic disease - choose your parents carefully.

I haven't read the back ground on you, but the story of your phone conversation is unbelievable. You poor girl. I cannot believe the gall of your mother. She "wants her cake and eat it too". She doesn't want her parents to know what assholes JWs are - so she expects you to play her game and remain totally silent about how they (jws) treat their children that don't tow the line. What a hypocrite your mother is. She should face the consequences of her convictions - and if she is so convinced she is being fair and reasonable then let her explain and try to justify herself to her parents. Let her deal with the looks of disapproval and disgust on their faces!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quite honestly I think you are being WAY too good to your mother. Firstly why don't you ask your mother why she trying to to pretend that all is well between you and her, to her parents? CAN'T SHE SEE WHAT SHE IS DOING? She is ashamed of her behavior (at another level she's ashamed) and she knows how terrible she looks in her parents eyes, so she wants YOU to cover it up for her, so she can do her JW thing and treat you like shit, without any reprecussions from her mommy and daddy! How sweet.
Now, stop pandering to your mother and phone up your grandparents or go visit them and tell them how cruel and unloving your mothers religion is to you and people like you all over the world. I know coz I've been there. My parents were ashamed of the witnesses trying to make them shun me. They didn't tell anyone outside the witnesses because they knew full well how horrific it looked to the outside world. They would tell me to "keep it in the family" like it was some kind of dirty skeleton in our closet. AND SO IT WAS! How can leaving a belief system justify being shunned by one's family?
Wallow in your grand-parents sympathy and draw close to them if they want you in their life. Why not be part of it - your mother doesn't want you! Then when your mother asks if you've been tattling to her parents again - tell her yes? Ask her what she's so ashamed of? Tell her that she doesn't want you and they do! Let her face the reality that she's created!!!!!!!!!!!

i know of an active jw who lies.
the thing is, this person probably believes what they're saying is true.
they are basically lying to themselves first, then repeating it to my wife and me.
suncrapes, what makes your table analogy interesting is that JWs aren't allowed to hear all the facts. They are only allowed to hear JW "facts". All other facts are from Satan!!!!! I remember when I was a dyed in the wool dub, someone told me how unhealthy it was to sit in our hall and hear only one side of things. At the time I didn't see it. But later when I left, that comment came back to haunt me.
Also over the years people have asked me why I left the Witnesses. I made up my own analogy. I said to picture a set of scales. In the beginning I saw the scales as fully weighted on the side of the JWs. As time went on the scales evened out more and more until one day I realised that the disbelief side had completely over-powered the belief side which was now so light as to have no affect any more.
Sorry for the ramble but your table analogy made me remember that.

Isn't it that the r&f can't be trusted to recognise a light bulb? Cripes, they are just as likely to try fitting a football into the socket rather than a bulb - coz light bulbs can be very confusing and can look like a whole bunch of other things!!!! Hence the gb are the only ones with any hope of differentiating between a light bulb and say, a football. What a rich blessing those gb are!
my paternal daughter is going to college to learn to do sonograms.
she has finished her schooling for xray and likes sonograms better.
she is married and seems happy.
I'm like that with my dad. He's 80 now, but we are still so close. Recently he tried to tell me how he felt, and I think he manged to say "you're wonderful". I don't expect him to express his feelings coz he's always been there for me and mine and his interest and concern and help says it all. Special bonds such as yours and mine are the very best that life has to offer.

for those of us with years of acquaintance with the wt and its teachings, it's clear that full acceptance of the 1914 date as the establishment of god's kingdom in the heavens is a non-negotiable condition of remaining in good standing in the organization.
many of us know people who've been booted out just for expressing misgivings, lety alone outright denying this teaching.
almost as central, and as non-negotiable, is the teaching that only baptised jws can expect to survive the big a.. .
I have always believed that there is a part of all JW who don't really believe it. Maybe 5% do, but the rest live double lives. Most shut their traps at work or in the company of their neighbours and they try to appear as normal as possible - until it absolutely can't be avoided any longer.
If they really, really believed "it", they'd all go pioneering, especially in areas where there are very few dubs. Coz if they really believed it, then Jehovah would provide.

dont get me wrong im a really happy guy and live an exciting life but since i was about 20 iv always thought about how frightening the reality of death is it really bugs me ill give you an example im really young now of course and then i might walk passed a graveyard and even look at the stones and then i think that will be me one day.
but i cant imagine being dead i want to live forever and all i want to know is do you think the dead are conscious of nothing or is there life after death.
iv got this idea though see what you make of it, i think that r bodys are just shells and are life is in us and when we die we go to another realm maybe heaven etc i thought of this because angels can supposedly materialize in to human form and viceversa so what do you think people is there really life after death
We didn't expect to be here this time. We were quite happly in our state of nothingness prior to being born. I presume being dead is much like that. Against the odds we turn up here on earth. When you think of the chances of that happening, well it's amazing. I guess there's a chance that we could get another bite of the cherry. But if not - you better hurry up and have some kids. Most kids I know are just like their parents. We live on thru our kids. Our kids are our immortality.
I'm with the previous poster. I think we have to do a good job and be nice people while we are here and hopefully if there is something else some place else, then our good behavior here will count for something.

hi all...i've been lurking here for the last 1 1/2 years and enjoy reading this forum every night.
i figured it was about time i spoke up...i da'd myself october 2000 after reading several experiences here on the net and after doing some of my own research i came to the conclusion that i had been "sucked" in.
i have lost a great many friends including my best friend of 18 years who by the way i "converted"..hows that for a kicker?..yep..wants nothing to do with me now...anyways...i just found this article on msn's website and thought you may enjoy reading it... jen.
