LB, I have no doubt the Moe is a genuine sweet person. That's why it's hard to fathom how dubs can be so cruel at such a time. Wouldn't you think they'd muster up some empathy and just be kind for a few minutes in the hospital room? I'm always so shocked by how cruel JWs can be.

Dear MrMoe, I'm really sorry to hear this. My mother has breast cancer and it's spread - so I guess I'll be in your position soon enough. It's very confronting isn't it?
With regards the dubbies? Why don't you tell them how rude you think they are and that they shouldn't bother to come and invade your private time with your mother if they can't behave like civil people.
They get away with this shit coz we let them. Watch them die of embarrassement when you tell them off. But wait until there is a doctor or nurse around, jsut to make them feel worse.

teejay, I can't decide whether to applaude your post or be really p'd off about it. I guess this is my way of saying I can see ya point of view. I really can.
So, let's suppose you are a hot shot financial advisor with years of experience under your belt. Then someone, let's call her VioletAnai, comes along and tells you she's putting $500K, her inheritence, into Awaywithall Property Developement Corp. She's just tickled pink about this company and she's not asking, she's telling you what its dividens are going to be very "soon", and that you too should invest in it. Now you like this girl, coz she's sweet and she's got spirit and she's having a ball reading all the glossy brochures that Awaywithall has given her to read. It all sounds great on paper don't it though?!
Of course you know that if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is. So do you leave her be to enjoy herself? Or do you give her the inside info on Awaywithall? Seems to me you think she's too preedy and she smells too nice to spoil her fun.

Heaven, I know where you are coming from. About 42 years ago a sweet young woman convinced my mother that my brother and I should have a *Bible* study. My mother agreed - for a whole bunch of misguided reasons. Had my mother been out that day, our family COULD not have been as divided, as unhappy and as financially retarded as they are today. I can't state that for a fact but we were middle socio-economic group, vaguely intellegent and generally well liked and respected in the community. The effect of Jehovah's Witnesses on my three siblings and my parents has been devistating. I can only look at what their lives are and see how they struggle and I really wish a big ol' fairy would wave a wand and let them live forever in eutopia - because they sure deserve it after sacrificing a potentially great life for the WT life.
I really hope things turn out way better for Violet though - she deserves a break.

i know from the number of people that i converted that there is a turning point at which time you stop being receptive to outside advice and opinions.
I do understand that Vi has had a difficult life. She has also had a number of "experiences" - supernatural experiences, that appear to reinforce the Witness view. I think these as much as anything, are influencing her. I am really sorry for her situation and I think she is a sweetie and I really wish her well.

How do people put themselves out of reach of help?
I was thinking of that movie "A Beautiful Mind" - and that guy (can't remember his real name) even with severe mental illness he employed rational thought to try to over come the delusions. I'm not trying to say that Vi is mentally ill, but she is refusing to think on the rational arguments. Is it because she is now convinced that she is right and therefore it's the old "don't confuse me with the facts, I've made up my mind" scenerio?
i was interested in how many of you took up higher education after leaving the jws, and how old you were etc.
i started college at age 23 (still enrolled at 24), my mother got her ged at 35 - disfellowshipped and started college at 40 - and will graduate at 45 from the university of florida in june.
my inactive sister is a freshman in college, right on time.. my jw brother has two kids and washes windows.
I didn't take on any, but my husband got his Masters degree when he was 45 he got his Ph.D. He did have a Science degree before becoming a dub though.

history of religion has always believed in the devil, but has portrayed him in different lights....he himself transforms into an angel of light, making something that is evil seem innocent and fun.
his best ploy: having people believe he don't exist...this is to his own advantage.. he is a malignant enemy of god and man!
