  Actually Dana, it's not the rules her son and DIL have made. It's the rules the WT have made. All Tammie and her husband are doing is playing it thru to its logical conclusion. No worldly parent in their right mind would demand time alone with their grandchildren. A grand-parent (or anyone ) must earn the trust of the parents before the parents can leave their kids alone with them. A JW cannot be trusted to behave in a reasonable manner. Certainly the time will be spent filling the kids heads with the same destructive rubbish that has already destroyed the relationships in the existing generation. BUT even if the grandmother promised not to mention Jehovah et al, I would still not agree to this condition (though I did do it with my parents a few times - but then I knew they were being blackmailed to stay in) - I would stand my ground and say: You don't speak to me, you don't speak to my kids! After all, by WT thinking the kids are made evil thru their parents evil.

  David, I turn 50 in December, and I don't agree with you one bit. Tammie and her husband did not make up these stupid rules. The WTS makes up the rules and mother-in-law can either do as she is told by her beloved religion or she can see her grand-kids any time she likes in the presence of the son she gave birth to. Fancy anyone letting a religion dictate to them to such a degree that they will not see their grand-kids if their own child is present. M-I-L gets all she deserves IMHO.

  David I've been separated from my family for 20 years because of this WT insanity and you don't get any where by pandering to them. They want us to play their games and when we left the WT we gave up all that. I'm into "give em' enough rope and they'll hang themselves". Make granny live according to the WT dictates and maybe she might get to thinking how truly barbaric her religion is. I must admit that I don't think Tammie's husband should argue with his mother. They should remain kind, but firm. She can visit the house and behave in a civil and mature fashion. What is she afraid of? Is her faith so weak that she cannot even enter her disbelieving son's house and set religion aside for a few hours? It's truly pathetic. Is this what Jesus wanted of his followers?

  I applaud your kind heart - but my heart has become hardened from 20 yrs of shunning when all I did was leave the religion quietly. These are not normal people we are dealing with.

  Can psychic energy heal?

  recently i was watching a documentary on this woman who claimed that she could heal people with the power of her mind.

  the documentary went into interviewing people about their experiences, and many of them actually had medical signs of improvement that could be documented and shown.

  while watching this, i was seeing it as a example of psychic energy healing someone?

  If psychic energy can heal then very few people are taking advantage of it. Yes people do recover or go into remission from seeming hopeless stage 4 cancers, but they are less than .01% of those afflicted. Yes people do postpone dying until after a much anticipated event (not so difficult - adrenalin probably). And women who attend a support group with breast cancer live longer and assertive patients fair better than submissive patients. But we aren't talking cures we're just adding a little time.

  Interesting there is a new nasal spray on the market for women to vamp up their sex drive. Apparently it did not work for the placebo group - but the ones who got the spray were transformed apparently (my husbands rather ambitious retelling of the article maybe). Does placebo work for cancer? I have never heard that it does.

  Though I am still uncertain as to whether diet and life style changes in a rare few cause long term remssion or whether it's the belief in what they are doing that achieves the goal. Most fail though.

  ::::::::::::::I am an old fashioned apostate and proud of it. When I became an apostate, there was no internet and few books out there from apostates. I got out on my own, and I am damned proud of it.

  Larc, You weren't the only one! Me and my hubby thought our way out, unaided by anyone, books, or internet. We stopped meetings in November 1979. We stopped believing in God at the same time as we stopped believing in the WT. We were disfed for apostasy in 1981. I think me and hubby were true apostates. Are we modern day apostates? What a bunch of crap! WT terminology - what a yawn!

  Am I the only 'fruit cake" here?

  before i confess to my rediculous weakness, i just want to assure everyone that i've been out for over 20 yrs - disfed for apostasy - that's true apostasy, as i stopped believing in god.

  i (& hubby) were disfed in 1981. never met another apostate or read anything apostate when we left.

  thought our way out unaided.

  Seriously gumby, you will get over the guilt thing eventually. I have suffered from this too. Only because the dubs made our family's life so difficult for many, many years. Actually I believe in my heart that my mother now has cancer because of all the pain she went thru when I was disfed. So is it my fault she has cancer? My fault for waking up to a corrupt and dishonest religion?

  It's no ones fault and no one is guilty. They don't know what they are doing and sadly it's just the way things are.

  Beck: Good about the ex taking in the program. I got back last Thursday. So watched the program on the weekend. Yes it was excellent.

  Our neigbhour was diagnosed with stomach cancer when she was about 38 yrs old. She had 3 girls under 12. At the time our community was heavily into Reiki, so there was a lot of sessions performed on her. She died within a few months. I'm sure it gave her hope at the time but if it bought her time it was miniscule.

  Sometimes you hear amazing stories about alternative medicines curing someone with cancer. I'm not sure if it's the change in diet and lifestyle or whether it's the person's strong belief in what they are doing that cures them. I know these miracles happen very rarely.

  Faith can move mountains. Literally. That's because it's religious belief that inspires incredible feats. e.g. Stonehenge, Easter Island, the Pyramids etc etc. All done because of strong belief. As to whether this belief can cure a disease within. I suppose it can occasionally.

  What "RULES" Did YOU Want To BREAK?

  since the organization has so many rules, did you ever just want to break a rule, just to do it?

  one rule that i enjoyed breaking was the 15 to 20 minute rule that you were supposed to come to the meeting early.

  i was regularly tardy.

  plmkrzy, OCD does take a lot of energy. I think keeping up with all the WT rules is a form of OCD.

  It's obsessive right? It's compulsive right? It's a disorder right?

  I engaged in "multilation" (their understanding of mulitation). I had the sterilization operation even though it was not allowed. I just did it and didn't tell anyone cept my husband and he was an MS. I was 28 and I'd had two kids and I didn't want any more, no matter what.

  I kept all the other 1,300,000 commandments though.

  Hiya Beck, I'm glad I was able to help splain this phenomenom to others that encounter this feeling. It's a bit disturbing, and yes the mind then questions what the hell is happening here? Does it mean that deep down I really believe it? What am I meant to do about how wrong they are? No warm fuzzies about that aspect!!! I once heard that the brain has channels of thought. I think seeing the gathering of dubbies caused that old thought channel to dominate, just briefly.

  I know you don't have any doubts or secret feelings that it's the truth. Me either. I would wither and die if I had to go back to the Org., - same with you I'm sure! But I wanted to throw the odd feeling open to discussion. So glad I did.
