When I lost my faith in the Watchtower, after almost ten years of missionary-service, I was assigned at Patterson. At that moment my only thought was to get out of that system. I was 39 at that moment, but I guess even at 80 I would have had the same thought and feeling. It's, for me at least, impossible to live in a lie. I would rather die on a street. -

For me It's shocking to read these experiences. I believe them, of course. What a difference with a missionary assignment. We were happy with a bottle of french wine on saturdays after a ten hours preaching day. At least a third part of my allowance of a 100$ Would go to help sisters with childs with unbelieving husbands. -

you can't smoke, have to drink with moderation (difficult in europe with all the wines).

I was discussing this topic with two friends of mine, ex jws, a few nights ago. I think it would be boring after a while. You can't smoke, have to drink with moderation (difficult in Europe with all the wines). Living with the same wife for a million years. Not seeing children in daily life after a while when the Place is stuffed up with people. Hobbies..what's left after a million year? No challenges in life because all the fruit and veggies are there. Couldn't shoot I guess (meaning shooting pheasants for example). All the countries would have been visited in a 1000 years, Anyway nothing to see because it would be all the same boring culture no temples to see in India, Thailand or Japan. No I think it is ok as it is. Live 90 years, do what you like and die in peace.

New video telling the R&F to be generous
by Splash inbro sanderson has a 7 minute video up on their streaming website called "be willing to open your hand".. in it he tells us not to be "tight fisted" or "stingy" and later "regardless of how much we have or how little we have, we'll find something within our power to be able to do".
we have the responsibility to imitate jehovah's generosity.. there's a bit about giving to one another when we see the need, which is nice, then he drops in how 20 years ago the canada branch committee asked the bethel family for donations to the disaster relief fund, and promptly raised over $10,000.
i think that's pretty good going for those under a vow of poverty.. "the generous person will prosper" he says, then illustrates this using a made up story.

The problem gets bigger and bigger for them as educated people and a lot of the "first" world are opening their eyes, the growth is from third world countries with little money and less possibilities.

my jw sister recently told me that single sisters can be missionaries, too.
this sounds too progressive for jws, so i just want to verify it.

The greatest challenge of missionary-work is, in my opinion, as I wrote here many years ago....the missionary-home. Living together as strangers, from different cultures is just not easy, and no course ( that's what Gilead is when you are used to wordly education), can prepare you to that.
Day after day living with people who never had learned how to handle a fork or/and knife, speaking loud with their mouth full of rice or bread, instead of taking a shower spraying " old spice" is hard.
Then morning worship, in the local language, hearing the strong accent of Some of the biggest countries in the world in Spanish, after years and years making the same mistakes and errors....thanks who ever to be liberated of that.Than the art of cooking of some, horrible.
Anyway this is off-topic I know.
