  If you could speak to your former self, what would you say?

  if you, knowing ttatt, could go back in time and speak to your former jw self, what would you say to wake yourself up from the wt religion?.

  i would speak to my unbaptised publisher self.

  at that stage, i believed.

  I'm afraid even if I could've talked to my former self she wouldn't have believed me! The individual is only ready for change when they are ready

  Some of the comments really made me chuckle! I honestly can't believe how afraid the WTO makes you of the outside world and life without them. At the time you don't realise how much they do it, but there's just a constant drip, drip, drip of scare mongering to make sure you stay put and do what they say. Fingers crossed the WTO will go bankrupt one day :)

  Well let's start from the beginning...

  1) I am happy, yes I am (I know Im not meant to be as the JW's would like to believe)

  2) I have friends (and very good ones at that)

  3) Worldy people are not bad. The ones I have met are so kind and generous.

  4) Life goes on

  5) I value my life, my kids and my husbands. We love life.

  6) I am not bitter. Not one little bit. (Believe me I have many reasons to be)

  7) I hope and wish that there is an afterlife, however I do not live my life as if there is. I wake up each morning and enjoy each day for what it is. I appreciate the beauty all around us.

  8) please do not get angry at those who cut off non-witnesses. You have to put yourself in their shoes and if you truly believed (like I did) then you will understand why they do it. It's not right, but it's not them. It's the WTO.

  9) If you are lurking, please continue to be curious and take an objective look. They say research for yourself, well do, research everything. They say don't be afraid to question, well don't, question everything

  So Today Was My Wife's First Ever Birthday Party

  she turned one today, and 36 earlier this week.

  we planned a big party, big for two people that have never thrown a party before.

  we rented a church fellowship hall because 1. it was nice and big and affordable and 2. it was kind of awesome to throw a party in a place we would have never ventured in our previous life.

  so for the first time ever i went to a church service at my local church (coe) and i have to say it was awful!

  it was just like a ritual.

  the vicar would say something and then the congregation would all say a phrase in unison back to him.

  Yes I'm in the UK and it was a Church of England service, I was hoping for something light and interesting and to be honest it was a real culture shock.

  Don't worry Crazyguy I'm not running back to the witnesses.

  Ah Bonsai, thank you for your comment. Not negative at all. I don't know why I have such a spiritual need. Maybe it's 38 years of conditioning or maybe it's just how I am. Who knows! But I think you are right in the whole sense of community thing. I do miss that. I am building relationships slowly but it does take time!

  The thing is Cofty, I think there is no answer to everything. I know you are totally into evolution and I get that. I believe there is a connection between everything and we do evolve (that is clear). However, as I mentioned in one of your posts I still cannot quite comprehend that everything we know came from one cell. I have so many questions about evolution that I just don't think can be answered. But on the flip side I do think that there are is also not much evidence that God exists.

  But, I like the concept of God. I like the values of the bible. Yes, I understand it could all be a huge fairytale but so what if it is? You and I will die, we will both live our lives to the full, the only difference is that you will believe there is nothing and I will hope there is something more. If there isn't then we will both be in the ground none the wiser :)

  So for the first time ever I went to a church service at my local church (COE) and I have to say it was awful! It was just like a ritual. The vicar would say something and then the congregation would all say a phrase in unison back to him. In between were prayers, hymns etc. This went on for an hour. It was totally unfeeling and I'm not sure how people even learn about the bible at such places.

  So anyway, as much as I don't want to go back to being a witness I do have to say they genuinely discuss the scriptures far more than churches.

  I know the majority of you on here are atheists but I still want to believe in something. I was hoping visiting a church once a month would give me that fix but it really didn't.

  For those with a faith, any suggestions on a nice church to upbuilding my faith without all of the silly 'add ons' that the witnesses have?

  If you are atheist please don't comment saying it's all a load of rubbish etc, I can believe in whatever I want to, as can you, so no negativity please.

  Im not sure what I believe in to be honest. But there are a few things about evolution which I can't understand and maybe you can help.

  How did that first cell come about? And why does this not still happen?

  How did that first cell manage to survive long enough to evolve?

  The rest I can understand. Please keep your answer succinct as I do get bored very easily!

  the religion they try so hard to protect by covering up these horrible abuses is now the same religion which getting into the news for all the wrong reasons.

  Awww that's heartbreaking. It's disgusting that the elders swept that under the carpet. How dare they! Those poor children. I'm glad these things are getting exposed. I think 5 years sentence seems very lenient though.
